  • It should be pat/stroke on the head, and slap on the bum/lower legs - lets not teach kids that parents slapping children in the face is 'all for the greater good'... Other than that, it looks great to me

  • This looks awesome! I am just happy to have the norns back i do not care about spending a little money. :)\

  • this is losing everything of what creatures is, money? really? this is just a tamagotchi with 32 graphics... :(

  • C1 would have done infinitely better, or been the most popular game in history if the average IQ was 30 points higher.

  • @vansfordave Unfortunately, something the Creatures series has lacked is actual direction; many players feel lost upon starting up the game as there are no tutorials, or goals of any sort.

  • All I wish for this game is an improvement of the Artificial Life aspect of the previous ones. I could care less about the changing of the graphics or whatever.

  • ooh, the retail version will include the first three games? Will the included creatures 2 game actually work with new video cards?? xD

  • You have to be online in order for this game to work, it is a free to play but things will cost real money, and you will have to run your creature around crazy to "earn" things that cost money. Once this game loses players they will close the shop and if you buy anything for this game it will be useless. Just like any face book game. The original creator of "creatures" Steve Grand is working on his own version, I will wait for him! This to me seems like a rip off

  • The belly rubbing and face slapping is like the Black & White game where that was how to trained your creatures,I guess there has to be some kind of punishment / reward system to properly train them.

  • Use the Right and Wrong real time and real Future Consciousness "sin" detection Unit to make these things know the Higher Power. :O (Schiffer.-Floaters))

(Future Consciousness Unit from Princeton U. Engineering Anomalies Project: P.E.A.R.) Make these creatures learn English, bark when thieves are around your HOUSE, know when someone is going to do evil from YOUR OWN HOME, AND fight or flight and much more.

(In addition to no hard schedules, slow decal on vehicles, publish such and say so)

  • This is more LOVE than most any other adventure or organization I have seen.

These is, due to John T. Schiffer's Future Consciousness "sin" detection unit a means to make RIGHT AND WRONG UNITS FOR THESE creatures to know the Almighty and actual evolve into HUMANS....or so.... ( In addition to slow stickers on cars -44mph or less-, part time employment, no hard quotas or schedules, publish things on Trans receptacles for the Paradigm Shift to Quantum Large world, for more than 10 years)thanks

  • Well PRAISE GOD ALMIGHTY FOR YOU! I have poor tons of human energy into these Creatures. I have also built a right and wrong unit for real right and worng knowledge of good vs. evil. Indeed.

(If course I speak in addition to the slow car movement, part time, no hard schedules, Future Consciousness "sin" detection unit, publish such on waste paper receptivles for many many years.((NO TV also. :O))

  • Linux users; No creatures for you! :>(

  • As excited as I am to see a new creatures game..I can't help but be disappointed. It seems like it will be a simple kids game, losing all the complexity that made the previous games so good. I hope that the actual game will be better than the demo, though. I miss the kits from C1 and C2, they gave a lot information about your norns, which made the game fun. They should bring back seasons and add animals, plants and other creatures that lead their own life. Please don't make this game too simple.

  • I have the original Creatures, and Creatures 3 Docking Station... I was hopeful when I heard about Creatures 4. I'm intrigued by the 3D world, the cute new actions of the norn, and will definitely look out for the game...

of course provided they take out the FACE SLAPPING!

    Wow...

I found the bottom slap from the other creatures to be a little cruel, but the dramatic face slap here, especially at 1:17 is beyond bad. Not good... I hope it's a bad-taste joke and that they take it out.

  • @skogsymre The slapping is supposed to be used to discipline the creature when it is doing something wrong to teach it that it's, well... doing something wrong. The slapping in this video wasn't used properly; it was shown this way basically just to demonstrate the action.

  • the slapping is pretty stupid.. the rest is good but.. why would you slap em? =_=

  • are there grendles and ettins on this game?

  • @Zimandskoodge Not at this point, but the creators stated that they may include them later in the game, after it's released.

  • Yeah sure I support dev tools of all kinds, I just dont like to have it in the game, shouting at you to cheat the breeding process. "not ruining" is not the best attribute for something in a game ;)

  • my 2 cents:

    - c1 & c2 were best in the series, due to the great and immediate insight tools; so the announcement of more insight tools in c4 sounds great

    - the drag and drop features sucks, its like cheating to get your norns where you want them to be, and it doesnt help not to use it, because you always will

    - the texture crossing sounds really great

    - an appearance editor is stupid, this is not the sims; we want to breed our norns, not create them

    - as said: enabling community adds is a must

  • @rewb0rn Personally, I think the appearance editor is okay, but it should be a developer tool if anything. But still, I don't think that will ruin it.

  • @rewb0rn Ahhh couldn't disagree more about the appearance editor! I love the idea of being able to create the appearance of norns, and then breed them. It's wonderful to have the option to choose, in any case.

  • SO DISAPPOINTED :,( I used to spend hours as kid on the old games, was proper looking forward to 4, then I saw this lol. Why do they have to ruin good games? looks so childish and boring, Simcity Society, perfect example, childish rubbish. These types of games aren't meant for kids, I was rubbish at the old creatures it was to hard for me and I got really frustrated with them when they didn't do what I wanted lol but that's the point! It's aimed for older people, what older person is gonna wann

  • to be honest with respect to all fans this looks so boring. i might get excited for like 10 min of playing and that is it.

  • If this game ends up not living up to everyone that the fans hoped, maybe it will at least inspire someone to try and take up the task of making a game based on the D-DNA/A-Life engine.

You can't copyright the First Person Shooter, that's why there are so many of them; everyone wants to give it a try to make their "perfect" FPS. Nothing should stop programmers/gamers from doing the same with A-Life gaming.

  • @Danmarkbot If this game ends up not living up to everyTHING* that the fans hoped

  • seems like its getting a bit more similar to sims. which I always used for my breeding fix anyway XD

  • 1. I miss creatures so much it's great that it's making its return.

    2. It would be fantastic if they allowed the pc users to edit their world and platforms to create a unique experience, think terrarria (building a home and world for our creature to explore and build would be incredible)

    3. different habitat for these levels he described hopefully with their own unique species so the world does not feel like an empty norn world.

    4. the more you allow the user to create the bigger the userbase.

  • what does he mean 5 races? so there will be different species other then the norns?

  • @Smoogle I imagine he probably meant breeds but I guess we'll see...

  • their going to milk the fuck out of this game as soon as i saw money being flop around i was like uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh great....If it was sort of like minecraft where patches come out that would of been great way to build to world and experiment with different things they don't realize how big the community is...im guessing these guys make games purely for cell phones..meehhhhh....i'll get it anyways to but i hope they get the science of the norns down this is not suppose to be a dumb game.

  • This isn't Creatures, this is the bastard child of Spore and Petz. I had high hopes for the simulation aspect to be at LEAST on par with Creatures 2, if not much better, considering this is 2011. This is a limited virtual pet game with in-game currency you have to buy, on par with something I might expect to see on Facebook. I'll buy it since it's still Creatures 4, something I never thought would exist. But it's not the Creatures 4 the concept deserves.

  • @dentistopponent Ah, but its still in VERY early development and this is a very early demo. A lot can change between now and its release date.

  • Uh.

Looks pretty terrible in comparison to Creatures 2.

  • A FRIGGIN BLAST FROM MY PAST!!!

  • I'm still going to stick to DS.

  • The norn look better in game-play than it did in the picture, though still some tweaks needed before I'd call it a true norn, bigger eyes and ears being the biggest issue I'm grumbling about while watching lol. I like the world, though the graphics aren't what I think most c-fans are used to. But then again, it's not CL doing this, so things are meant to be different. I like the fact of the baby-norns getting a blend of color from the parents, though does that include the features aswell?

  • It's good to hear from someone at Fishing Cactus regarding this demo! I'm still cautiously optimistic about Creatures 4: There are a lot of elements that haven't really been explained yet, including the D-DNA and genetics. I do have to say that I'm not a fan of the Norn face slapping. Hopefully there will be more to come, but I'm beginning to think that this is more of a spinoff of Creatures than another installment in the series. That's not a bad thing, though! Just different.

  • @discoveralbia It has definitely nothing to do with the idea behind the game "Creatures", if you want "Creatures" you'll have to check out Steve Grand, as he's the creator and mastermind behind the whole "artifical life" concept in Creatures.

The "intelligence" here seems to be a very watered down version of the original creatures, while Steve Grand is currently developing something called "Grandroids",

which are supposed to be the first artifical lifeforms which are able to "think" or imagine.

  • @xSakijix I've been following Steve Grand and Grandroids, although most of the information has been kept very quiet. The demo looked quite watered down in many ways, but I'm still optimistically waiting for more news from Fishing Cactus. Keep in mind that even if Creatures 4 doesn't turn out to be absolutely amazing, it still can help shine the spotlight on the Creatures series! I'm just glad that there is something to look forward to, both in Creatures 4 and Grandroids.

  • @discoveralbia Indeed. It would be nice if AI got a little more attention in the gaming business.

My only fear is that Creatures 4 ( if it gains attention ) might serve as example for others not to follow in their footsteps. ( If they implement the AI badly, which they most likely did ).

  • @xSakijix Though I don't want to be totally pessimistic, I'm open for surprises. :)

  • @xSakijix I very much agree! Artificial life has taken a backseat to first person shooters, RPGs, and the like. Naturally, these genres are quite popular and offer many great games. Yet no one seems to pay much attention to AI/AL. I'm hopeful that Creatures 4 might open the doorway a bit, although it's hard to say anything before its release. I like to err on the side of optimism, although I certainly understand your perspective! Maybe we'll all be pleasantly surprised in a few months!

  • Coins. what. Where's the science? where have all the health kits and instruments gone?

    /watch?v=BHGFVAr7tZ4

  • this guy speaks so fast i barely understand him. I know that French language is all like that - spoken fast - but he really have to slow down :/

  • This is terrible. This is not Creatures. This is a silly pet simulation. What did I expect? These guys aren't scientists. They are goofy game makers. No genetics, no biology. At least I have "Currency that you can only buy with real money" to be overjoyed about.

Oh, god. The more I watch it, the worse it gets. That thing isn't even an animal, it's basically a human wearing a scary suit doint human things. Steve Grand is turning in something or other. If he was dead it'd be his grave.

  • @Dystopalicious Did you listen at all? There ARE genetics, it's based on the same genetics as the last 3 games. They still inherit traits, still have drives, everything.

  • @HelloInterloper Maybe so, but it sure felt good to get that out of my system.

  • @Dystopalicious relax, you aren't getting anything better than that. so either you get used to it and stop complaining, or you wait til' Steve releases Grandroids and stop complaining.

  • I hope this is not going to be a Spore-like game, I want the Creatures saga back !

  • Totally reminds me of Pocket Creatures.
