Thank you for this excellent video - it inspired me to ascend my first character in NetHack! Since then I've had many ascensions, the most recent of which I also recorded on video and posted on my channel.

You can get an ascension in nethack as much as twice a day on average, if you are good and so inclined.

While playing actively, there were a lot of people who ascended once every couple of days during tournaments.

It's okay to not have a life and play Nethack so much you can play this fast. You don't need to disguise this fact by saying you "sped it up".

I've just started actually playing this game somewhat seriously (I mean actually trying to stay alive/learn the game instead of grab everything until I die). I like it and all, but how could somebody possibly sit for twelve hours and do this? After one round that I didn't even survive to the end of, my wrists start locking up.

@arinlares You can save in the game, you know. It's more like "quicksave" in that the save file's gone after you load it, but you don't have to beat the game in one sitting like that.

So, this was one game? I've honestly never played a game over fifteen minutes, which means I've probably been doing something wrong, and have a lot to learn. I guess climbing out of the cave the first chance you get doesn't count for much, lol.

You deserve full godhood based on your choise of music alone, not counting the fact that you ascended as TOURIST. My best run so far (10+ years on and mostly off) has been in Mine town as a knight. Then a mimic killed my warhorse and a violet fungus :D

Oh, NetHack. I love it, but I'm terrible at it. The farthest I got was as a Valkyrie fighting the bad guy of the class's quest. I was really lucky to wind up with the Excalibur, Sunsword, and some other special artifact sword. I then proceeded to misplace the Excalibur, read the wrong scroll and enchanted the second artifact weapon into nonexistence, and dropped the third into Lava when I polymorphed myself into a red dragon, thinking that it would help me survive lava.

It doesn't. :(

My biggest problem is food, and food poisoning any help?

I tend to start the game with food problems as well, but never forget that extreme hunger and food poisoning can both be cured by praying to your god. You can't pray for about 300-400 turns after, but it will solve both problems, and 300 or so turns pass by really fast.

@PrfOak Food poisoning is preventable by simply not eating old food. Note that all undeads except Wraiths either don't leave corpses, or automatically leave old corpses.

There are also poisoned corpses that aren't delayed instadeath, but will damage your HP and lower your strength. For those wyou will just have to either read a spoiler, or trial and error. Or watch your pets - they don't eat stuff that will harm them most of the time.

I cant keep up with the sudden influxes of monster groups. By the time I hit level 6-7 more and more monsters spawn to murder me.

Also doesn't help that gold golems look like straw golems.

Hah :P 4 years and counting, and so far my deepest game has been to Dungeon Level 11, without a trip to Dwarf town... But distance wise I did once get to 'Home' :P Anyways, good choice of music for the video, shame there's a good bunch of frames that you just can't catch, but that's to be expected with 100x lapsing. Congrats on the Ascension, may Rodney never bother you again ^^

i know someone who's ascended with every type of character (including the tourist). he doesn't do any botting, but he does have some sort of system down. i don't know where he finds the time to do it.

Nethack just outright confuses me at some times, personally, I like digging around as an archeologist(Spelling?) and maybe coming across something somewhat hidden... Then I got killed by a kitten.

I only just ascended this week on the school computers, after a few months of playing, mind you +20,000 extra turns and a few more hours playing I reckon.
