after enjoying Victorialand and all the other Cocteau Twins albums

I was really surprised to find out that all their albums hadn't gone to

number 1, in fact none of them. I'd just assumed they had. They were

all so marvelous. Its strange what you imagine when you are new.

I'd pictured In Our Angelhood as their first number 1 single and I thought

Song to the Siren, the Thinner the Air and Teardrop must have topped

the charts judging by often they were played on television as soundtracks.

just wasnt ready for them, though they often topped the Indie charts,

Victorialand is an amazing album and if I was paid to listen to their music I would be a billionaire...and of course the Cocteau Twins and shum65 would get a big share of it just because they deserve it for being who they are!! I love it so much it's beyond what language can convey and I stand in awe at the glory I can see.Listening to this band always brings out the highest thoughts in me.

There is something ethereal and yet haunting about this tune. The push-pull dynamic of the vocals, the beautiful guitar work, and lack of percussion work to create a work much like a tree. It begins as something small and gentle in the ground then works it was to something majestic.

@shum65 Yeah. But more the winters in the small northern town where i grew up. i never get tired of listening to this record. i saw them kick off with lazy calm at the royal court in liverpool around 25 years ago (Dif Juz were the excellent support)

This is another good example how Guthrie made quite simple guitar lines in to an ethereal song base and made it work impecably. It just compliments Liz's singing. (as Shum's video does the song!) I can't recall any other band that has fitted everything so well 'together'. Those guitar chords are like jewels floating down a waterfall, and Liz's voice is sunshine dancing above it all <3

shum just a quick 2nd comment-This song is like a surprise journey that for the first 38 seconds you´ve know idea where you´re heading and then lift off-not explosively so just subtly diverted to someplace else you weren´t expecting or even thought existed on the map-paradise found- we´ll be listening to this in 50 years time and still be in awe- of that I´m certain-thanks

Regardless, this is just about my faorite song of theirs. It seems soft and gentle initially, but becomes searingly intense.

This would be my particular favorite album by the Cocteau Twins although I never like to say favorite especially when it comes to their music. Each album a new transgression into another dimension one door closed another opened to a different emotion a different experience. So many emotions in one song makes you feel numb all I can do is drift into oblivion. I wish I would have got to see this band live but I'm so glad to have some across their music. Finally, on a more somber note, which may NOT interest those who do not like interpretations of CT songs. Anyway, more than a few people have either heard definitively, or at least similarly concluded that this lovely song actually deals with the tragic and cruel commercial seal hunt, in which Nature's beautiful precious seals are clubbed to death, thus bringing a blood blush to the snow. Sarah Palin would probably take her whole family along for the fun and spectacle.
