I must be a god because I could beat the game no problem. I never thought DD3 was that hard except for the opening platforming scene in Egypt. That always pissed me off.
I actually liked this game, it was damn hard and i never actually beat it without a game genie. still i could get to level 5 egypt. bassically you need to use the ledges and weapons to kind of cheap the comp. and once you get new characters you'd need to swap them out when you'd have one health so they'd be useable the next stage.

Actually, I have finished this game 19 years ago. The end boss is a mummy. I was blissfully unaware what a shitty game it was. When you don't have many games, you tend to savor a few games that you have.

I used to play this with my brother ALL the time. It's takes some practice but it's gameplay is very intelligent: you have to continuously adjust your position according to your enemies and your partner. Together, with good timing and positioning, this game is not so difficult except for the Ninja level and the Final Boss fight.

What's really interesting, and I'd like to see you try this, James, is if you get a DD3 emulator, and select the 2 player mode with friendly 'fire' hits off, the control of both charactors is the same buttons. So you can walk against the wall, and do the double spinkick without too much difficulty. It's quite interesting and makes the game more playable.
i thought it was just me that couldn't do the spin kick everytime. i didn't have an NES, but after playing this fuck game at my hommies crib, i loved coming home to play my Atari and toss in a centipede, Dig Dug, Pac Man or Galaga cart

I've been saying this for 20 years. DD is awesome, DD2 is even better, but DD3 sucks hard. The difficulty is way to much.The Splatterhouse series did the same thing. In Splatterhouse 3 you have to hit the demons like eight times to kill them, but they can take your life bar down to nothing in two or three unstoppable strikes.

Yeah', DOUBLE DRAGON III is fucking brutal! It's one of the hardest games ever made. I remember renting this on NES with my Brother back in the day and we couldn't even make it past the first couple of levels. Thats when a game truly fails. When you can't have any fun with it. Through out the years I keep forgetting how impossible this game is and try playing it again. Nope! It's still unforgiving! Even the Sega Genesis version is over the top! Why would they make it this hard!?!

No, but possibly not enough skill whereas I have actually finished the game with Chin and all characters alive. Not dissing anyone's skill just wanted to say that it is possible with the correct inception of skill and luck.
It would appear DD3 is still a popular game even years later. I still own my copy from the day it was released and still play it frequently I suppose it is one of those games that never die.
I agree, DD2 was great especially since DD was a highly sought after game. DD3 gave the player a chance to play as multiple characters(Ranzou and Chin).

@XJVHS Actually, for your information, I did in fact have the first two Double Dragon games back in the day. And they were both fun games to play. But Double Dragon III was a dissapointment for me. And as James said in this review, the only way to get far in the game is to either be an expert or to have two players. What really killed it for me is that they made this game unfairly difficult. Its good to have some difficulty in a game, but they overdid it with this.
before me and my bro finished the game, but when we died (mostly in last level) we had to do all levels over and over. But still, the difficulty is nice, cuz it's a challenge this way! :)

@IwubMaiColettie: some extra lives would be handy, but u can easily finish all levels with the standard amount of live! Just practice playing the game! There are more ways and tricks to kill ur enemy. I will upload a walk through someday.. But.... with the amount of live u get, u have to finish the last level (wich contains 5 parts including 6 dangerous jumps, 3 mummies and 1 final boss) with ur last health! Thére should be more lives. But I like the challenge, not only just easy shooting! grtz

Most popular youtubers are partners. It helps them fund there videos and make a little money on the side(because we all need money). Originally in 2005 there was a 5 minute limit on your videos. It then changed to 10 minutes. Then they launched the director program which included unlimited length and other features. The feature left but people who once were directors could keep the extra features. Partners also have acess to unlimited length. Now regular youtube have 15 minute limit

@XJVHS Actually, for your information, I did in fact have the first two Double Dragon games back in the day. And they were both fun games to play. But Double Dragon III was a dissapointment for me. And as James said in this review, the only way to get far in the game is to either be an expert or to have two players. What really killed it for me is that they made this game unfairly difficult. Its good to have some difficulty in a game, but they overdid it with this.

before me and my bro finished the game, but when we died (mostly in last level) we had to do all levels over and over. But still, the difficulty is nice, cuz it's a challenge this way! :)
So if it just had some continue's (from the point of death) then the game would be perfect ;)

@IwubMaiColettie: some extra lives would be handy, but u can easily finish all levels with the standard amount of live! Just practice playing the game! There are more ways and tricks to kill ur enemy. I will upload a walk through someday.. But.... with the amount of live u get, u have to finish the last level (wich contains 5 parts including 6 dangerous jumps, 3 mummies and 1 final boss) with ur last health! Thére should be more lives. But I like the challenge, not only just easy shooting! grtz

I beat this game when I was a kid. It's difficult but if you learn the mechanics of the game it's as impossible as it seems. Simply the AVGN can't play this game...

Lol.. U pretty much suck at the game.. I can finish the game on my own (and with my brother is fun too). The chinese guy (wich u call the guy in the businesssuit) is not useless, u must use his quick hands! He can kill an enemy in one try!
The difficulty is fun! Not too easy to finish! U have to have some experience and then u know what to do when! Damn.. i should make a video! U stink in this game.

@Greekstarrr It's not youtube's fault. James is a youtube partner. A youtube partner is some one who earns money off of youtube videos. This varies on views and advertisements. Most popular youtubers are partners. It helps them fund there videos and make a little money on the side(because we all need money). James is trying to fund money for the AVGN movie and is partner because of that. If you watch videos from lesser known youtubers you probably won't see ads

@Greekstarrr Your welcome. P.S youtube partners also get special features to there account like banners above there videos and unlimited length. Originally in 2005 there was a 5 minute limit on your videos. It then changed to 10 minutes. Then they launched the director program which included unlimited length and other features. The feature left but people who once were directors could keep the extra features. Partners also have acess to unlimited length. Now regular youtube have 15 minute limit
