What a truly outstanding Diva live performance of this most outstandiung of songs. Notoriously, horrendously hard to deliver live because of the demands on the vocal cords belting out with such fierce and angry passion like that - and meaning it' . Must have worn her out poor lass. But is just Sensational to render it so Faithful to the original. Mesmorising and - oh - so sweet on the ears and eyes,
Love the way that drummer (who gives it 300%) uses drum sticks like chop sticks to produce that incredible symcopated beat - even better than original (if that were possible)
Does it really matter? I'll be seeing her live in Australia in march. If I get a chance to ask her I will, so we can settle it once and for all. Having said that, I never said it was a live performance only that it is from her DVD. watch the whole DVD and you may see it differently.
just because the band is actually playing it doesnt necessary mean that shes singing live ... I dont think this is live singing ... I agree that it sounds too much like the track and even if your not singing you can make your 'neck' look like u r ... i still love her and the song ...
@lillaperendy Of course if the band is live she must be live. Band couldnt play to a precorded voice. Happens other way round but would be a disaster if they tried that and sound all over the place. The woman is supremely gifted that's all (but not sure she could do this at this quality now).
You're only a TRULY TALENTED singer if you sound the same live, as you do on the CD. Faith Hill is one of those blessed people. She sounds amazing. I feel like I'm listening to her singing on the radio, if not BETTER :)
U will b surprised..with digital audio technology and autotune enhancements they can upgrade a persons voice...and i wasnt really praising her voice...she is not my cup of tea...she just sounded very similar to studio recording....her voice is flat and too deep...i prefer more range..:)
oh yeah it is live afterall...i hadnt watched the video in years...the video has more echo effect in her high notes...but her band is absolutely faithfull to the music in this live performance.
@rocco24a Thank you for coming to your senses I don't think you can get that many musicians to fake it that well you only have to look at her neck to see she isn't lip synching .
Utterly, utterly AMAZING. And that ace drummer sitcks faithfully to the cool, off -beat syncopated drumming from the original (fantastic) arrangement. Infact they all do. Gives me goosebumps just like the original. Plus - towards end we almost get the 'wet look' Faith back again !! A year to the day since I first heard this version!
@rocco24a No - its live alright - drummer does an extra - oh so cool twiddly roll at 1.14 and the one defect in it, which i didn't want to draw attention to - is the wayouta tune guitar lick at 1.17. But just ignore it !! Your right though - it is so bloody FAITHfull to the original !!
And that is how you know an artist is truly talented - if they are able to sound just like their CD during a live performance. I have always respected Faith :)
OK - one more and then I'll shut up. I gotta say - I've thought for some time that this song is becoming one of my favourites of all time... And this STUNNiNG performance has just confirmed that. It proves that Faith is still at the top of her game. But she needs more like this .....
@dugsbugs1 Do you know the approx date and venue of this performance (year will do). This is like a late Christmas Present for me. I shall play in the New Year listening to it ...CHEERS !
@jezkn Originally aired as an NBC special in November 2002, Faith Hill: When the Lights Go Down is comprised of a dozen live performances from Hill, plus bonus footage of performances that were not aired on the TV special. It was filmed in Nashville. The viewing figures for the TV performance apparently rose as high as 8.2 million. The DVD was released on May 6, 2003. Its a MUST HAVE for any Faith Hill Fan! :-)
@SexyLilLezNTx Oh - THANKS - I might have to cop hold of that DVD for the bonus footage alone. But you can't get this stuff over here 'cause nobody's heard of her (I don't think she's ever been on telly here even !!) Any ideas how would I get it?
YouTube is so great 'cause eventually SOMEBODY will tell you what you need to know !! YEAH!
@jezkn I did some research (via my old Faith Hill Fan Club Newsletters). I came across all the info on Faith Hill: When The Light Go Down Concert/DVD Special. It was shot over a 2- week period in September 2002. The special was directed by Gary Halvorson and was filmed in a soundstage on a HOLLYWOOD studio lot. It was not filmed in Nashville like I had originally thought and posted. You can get a copy on Ebay.com or Amazon.com for a very reasonable price. :-)
Only thing is - she ain't wearing that black dress or got the soaking wet hair - and there's only one of her ... And there's no Cadillac Eldorado or 'ghost' children. Oh well .....
You nailed it Dug! - there are some terrible live peoformances of this song arranged 'Countrified' which murders it - but in this amazing performance they stick FAITHfully (get it?) to the original and consequently she nails it too. Listen to those drum offbeats - spot on. OK guitar isn't quite there - but I've been searching for this live rendition for ages and finally you've delivered !! YEAH - WOH WOAH ! Rock on Faith .....

Faith Hill has to be the hottest woman ever born, and hell she can sing. I don.t think the odd sewings on the pants becomes her, though.
