Damn the 80's was a great decade for cartoons was it not.
The lion voltron was very repetitive..always the same..the plot was very plodding and predictable. I hated the Allura character..she did not belong. The writers for the vehicle series were simply better

The plot in Golion is really one-dimensional and uninspired; the Galra villains have no redeeming qualities whatsoever, and watching the sheer cruelty on that show gets old really quickly. In Dairugger, the Galveston/Drule enemies are NOT evil, their planet is dying and they're fighting for what they believe is right. They can be just as courageous as their human enemies.

King Alfor gave the blueprints of Lion Voltron to the Alliance so that they can create their own version which was Vehicle Voltron. Also, Vehicle Voltron only has 5 minutes to operate once formed. Not impressive if he is given the title of Voltron Defender of the Universe.

I think the main reason vehicle Voltron didn't blow up was because the cartoon came on weekday mornings, while lion Voltron came on in the afternoons. I don't know about you, but mornings I was usually too busy getting ready for school. I only really got to see weekday morning cartoons on sick days and during summer vacation. If they had alternated during afternoons only, it would have probably done better.
@newguy90 Absolutely. If you debut a show at an inconvenient time for the targeted demographic, then most people aren't going to watch it, let alone even know about it. I actually had the vehicle voltron toy but had to tape the episodes on VHS because I was obviously not home to watch them, I was on my way to school.

by far the lions are better, the vehicles there were too many of them. As far as how many there are 15 vehicles vs 5 lions. the lions were bigger stronger and hard to stop the forming voltron, where the 15 you had better chance of taking one of them out.

I know that the Lion Force stuff was re-released some time back (DvD sets of each season, I mean) and that sometimes Cartoon Network does show reruns of those episodes.

Lion Voltron. It has science and magic to rely on. Hilarious bit from the most recent Voltron comic book attempt had Lion Voltron drain Vehicle for power and upgrades.
The ONLY thing that I DIDN'T like about the vehicles was that there were so many pieces. But, the Vehicles were far more dynamic that the wittle-wions! And there were a few times they beat their ro-beasts without forming blazing sword!
The things I DIDN'T like about the lions was they got rid of Sven, the coolest dude on the team! ("Vee vill beat dat vitch Hagar und her vicked ro-beast!!") That, and they got help from those rats.... RATS!!

I'm one of the few fans that watched the show back in the 80's who liked both equally but for different reasons. Lion Voltron looked cooler but Vehicle Voltron looked like a tougher fighter. In the end, they're both equally awesome!
Lion Voltron all the way. Cooler idea, better back story, more evil villains, crazier robeasts and you didn't have to remember the names of 15 characters (all of whom were basically based off the 5 Lion team members). And they were cartoons about life and war in space...didn't need being more "realistic" in concept for it to fire imaginations.
I used to watch Voltron when I was 14-15 years old weekday afternoons. I must say, as a teen, I liked the Lions better. But now, I love them both. The Lion Force was better in terms of characters, stories, and in terms of toys, it was easier to keep up with. I didn't really like Vehicle Voltron back then, but I do now, out of appreciation and rarity. Vehicle Voltron to me, is like G.I.JOE in space. In terms of the robot, Vehicle Voltron is the best looking robot. Altogether, I love both 50/50.
Lion force Voltron is so much better than Vehicle. Lion looks better and has a better transformation sequence. Who would rather ride around in a car than a giant mechanical lion?
Vehicle Voltron all the way! I grew up watching & playing with these. The lions had higher quality mainstream cartoons but the Vehicle Voltron was way better. 15 different pieces (5 each land sea & air) vs 5 lame different colored lions. And Vehicle Voltron was about Earth with more realistic vehicles than goofy mech lions. The lions were like the model for the Power Rangers.
I recently bought the DVD sets, and while I see why the Vehicle Voltron is so disliked, I can appreciate it. Mainly because Lion Voltron was an episodic space fantasy/action series while Vehicle Voltron is an ongoing saga, with the Vehicle Force lugging the hard yards in an effort to discover and colonize new worlds.
This is not to say I hate Lion Voltron, because I dont hate him, I just think the Vehicle Voltron got a real bad rap because the viewers weren't ready for it.
I prefered the Vehicle Force Voltron version, but I still liked Lion Voltron. As other posters have noted, VFV felt more like a war drama series, ala Robotech: Macross, while Lion Voltron had too much stuff like the pet mice in the castle. I also liked the whole star-faring feel to VFV as well.
TEll me... when Lion Voltron forms...and you hear each lion roaring...do you feel an IMMENSE rush of blood and chills all at the same time?! No matter your age...suddenly you're 10 years old agin.

Assembly speed vehicles 20sec Lions 35Durability the Lions, they actually weld themselves together, the vehicles just seem to have a magnet thing going so they dont seem as solid...Weapon Systems , V or L have a slick arsenal....
I based my view from watching each one assemble on these clips....I think it just comes down to the better voltron or operators the day they meet...

The ONLY thing that I DIDN'T like about the vehicles was that there were so many pieces. But, the Vehicles were far more dynamic that the wittle-wions! And there were a few times they beat their ro-beasts without forming blazing sword!
The things I DIDN'T like about the lions was they got rid of Sven, the coolest dude on the team! ("Vee vill beat dat vitch Hagar und her vicked ro-beast!!") That, and they got help from those rats.... RATS!!

I'm one of the few fans that watched the show back in the 80's who liked both equally but for different reasons. Lion Voltron looked cooler but Vehicle Voltron looked like a tougher fighter. In the end, they're both equally awesome!

Lion Voltron all the way. Cooler idea, better back story, more evil villains, crazier robeasts and you didn't have to remember the names of 15 characters (all of whom were basically based off the 5 Lion team members). And they were cartoons about life and war in space...didn't need being more "realistic" in concept for it to fire imaginations.

I used to watch Voltron when I was 14-15 years old weekday afternoons. I must say, as a teen, I liked the Lions better. But now, I love them both. The Lion Force was better in terms of characters, stories, and in terms of toys, it was easier to keep up with. I didn't really like Vehicle Voltron back then, but I do now, out of appreciation and rarity. Vehicle Voltron to me, is like G.I.JOE in space. In terms of the robot, Vehicle Voltron is the best looking robot. Altogether, I love both 50/50.

Vehicle Voltron all the way! I grew up watching & playing with these. The lions had higher quality mainstream cartoons but the Vehicle Voltron was way better. 15 different pieces (5 each land sea & air) vs 5 lame different colored lions. And Vehicle Voltron was about Earth with more realistic vehicles than goofy mech lions. The lions were like the model for the Power Rangers.

I recently bought the DVD sets, and while I see why the Vehicle Voltron is so disliked, I can appreciate it. Mainly because Lion Voltron was an episodic space fantasy/action series while Vehicle Voltron is an ongoing saga, with the Vehicle Force lugging the hard yards in an effort to discover and colonize new worlds.
This is not to say I hate Lion Voltron, because I dont hate him, I just think the Vehicle Voltron got a real bad rap because the viewers weren't ready for it.

I prefered the Vehicle Force Voltron version, but I still liked Lion Voltron. As other posters have noted, VFV felt more like a war drama series, ala Robotech: Macross, while Lion Voltron had too much stuff like the pet mice in the castle. I also liked the whole star-faring feel to VFV as well.
