id be willing to bet 3/4 of the people commenting on here ARE NOT firemen anywhere..just buffs no departments better then any other, different ways of doing things different SOP's fires are just as hot and just as dangerous anywhere you go. get the job done and get home safe at the end of your tour. great job boys!
@jacobstern14048 You sound just as ignorant as the person you're quoting. If you were actually a member of either department or had any knowledge you would know that DC and NY are very close departments. They actually run several different training events and companies together and both share a lot of tactics. In fact, these two departments might be the most closely related big city departments in the nation and are both world class. So since you probably don't work for either, stop talking.
@ffknight918 in case you didnt notice I included that DC is a great dept. but when have you ever heard someone say dc is the best dept in the world? On youtube maybe but the fact of the matter is that FDNY is the biggest, the best and the busyest. I wasnt talking down to anyone, so how about you stop talking you stupid shit.
@jacobstern14048 What are you 15 kid? Of course FDNY is busiest. It's a bigger city! Companies in DC are just as busy. 10 Engine is actually busier than any FDNY company. And like I said, we run a lot of training companies together. f you ask anyone in FDNY they will say they are not any better or worse than us. Actually most I know have said they think we are one of the best at engine ops in the nation and they are one of the best at truck ops. Take it from someone who actually works there.
@jacobstern14048 Once you actually get a job, then maybe you can talk. Much less a job with FDNY or DCFD. Funny how your "best in the world" FDNY think DCFD is just as good as them but you don't. Grow up kid. I'd like you to show up to a training conference with both departments there and say there. Even the FDNY guys would tear you a new one.
you could sit here and sideline quarterback this fire all day long if you want. the fact is you werent there and any fireman will tell you..theres the "by the books" way of getting things done..then theres the real way you do what you have to do to get things done sometimes
The men from Truck and Engine company 10 have been putting out your fires since 1905. Some of your fd's should only wish we would be one of your mutual aid depts.. we'd be keeping your citizens safer.
DCFD wat can u say about them some of the best trained and badass firefighters around "FDNY who" DC is one of the most aggresive fire depts around the guys wit out packs are truck company they dont wear packs unless going interior for searches DCFD is mainly engine company orianted and they show that fires whos boss any box alarm there gettin 4 hose lines on the fire no chance for that fire to spread
Maybe because he wanted to help his crew out? They are 1.5", not 1.75". One guy can control it himself with ease here. The DCFD is one of the most aggressive fire departments in the country. It's just that instead of standing around with his thumb in his ass, he decided to help. Especially because things were a little off since they just put out another fire down the street.
The guy on the roof doesn't need an scba. I'm sure he knows what he's doing since he's seen more fire than you.
@pipeman1822 iam sure wanted to help but thats not what iam saying ...he had no turnouts on and he was right by the fire.and why wouldn't the guy on the roof need a scba he was in the smoke....our sog's say that and firefighter working on or around a burning structure have to have a scba on especially during venilation
That's YOUR sogs. Not ours. We are a different department that has 5 engines, 2 trucks and a squad on scene in minutes. Things change in a big city so we operate differently.
@pipeman1822 i dont care how many rigs u get there with in minits, hell for all i care u could have the entire dcfd there in 30 seconds! its common sence to were a pack when your aroung smoke and the building
@volff130 How many times have you been to a job and not worn your mask for overhaul? ...MAYBE they didnt have enough bottles on the rig they just came from a job prior did anybody think of that? I know we carry alot of spares and we blow right through at 1 job alone
@pshidku this is a good point that i never thought about but at my station we have a rig we can fill air tanks off of and the main station we hav a auto mutual aid with also has a rig we can fill bottals off of
@volff130 considering thats why we take all those classes about most fire fighters dying durning overhaul for no SCBA, its not like we take them bc they are fun, I mean granted we have all been there and and had Bull Syndrome, but SOGs and SOPS all aside, for your own health and safety, is why you wear the thing, not just because your told to, but we were all guilty of it, so any talkin about the no pack ventilation is just trying to prevent a brother firemen going down thats all. SICK VIDEO
@pipeman1822 Hands down DC is one of the most aggressive Departments in the country. My dads a retired d.c. batallion chief. Guarantee theyve all seen more fire than him. DCFD Are the Big Boys!
@volff130 volunteer fire fighter 130.....your name says it all.....go read a book......all these volunteer safety police give the rest of us a bad rep
@jacobstern14048 so wut if i am a volunteer we do just the same job as the big bad city firefighters! and i am not being the "safety police" i was making a point about staying safe and not dieing of smokinahltion. so if u want to die from stupid shit be my guest.
One of the best managed fires I've ever seen. To the comment about water prior to venting, they used horizontal ventilation initially to keep it from back drafting when they opened the door, you can see the fire flared up when it got that O2. Later on, they used a vertical trench cut to stop the spread through the attic and into the other units. When the fire reaches the trench cut, it stops. The ventilation was used appropriately. Good stop, good knockdown, good save, poor PPE use.
Check out the video by engine 4 on here. I forgot which fire or the vid title but that's usually how they operate. Definitely not slow and probably one of the fastest in the country. Don't know many other places that run on the fire ground.
wow hickup id love too see u do what we do every day u must have no respect for what we do id pay to see u pack up and go in to a burning structure not knowing whats on the other side of that door u just entered
@station17fire heck id like to see him gear up with us in under 60 seconds and then get on a speeding fire engine or truck and try to get a fricken pack on lol
its a good thing we do wut we do otherwize we would have bozos like hickupp do wut we do best! and i'm sure u feel the same way but there is nothing id wrather do then run into a hell's kitchen with a big smile the house is close to 900 degrees by now so try that 1st and then let us all know how u feel about wut we do STAY SAFE BROTHERS!
u gotta b kidding me right!!! y dnt u carry 65 pounds of gear on ur back and an extra 20+ in ur hands into a building filled with black smoke.... what r they going to save in that garage!!! it flashed there is nothing to save anymore in there the best they can do is save the house and people in the house!!! dont you dare disrespect firemen for "being so slow" you should feel safe and sleep well at night because while ur sleeping they r up at 3 am saving a life! and maybe 1 day it maybe your own!
That's a great demonstration on damage mitigation. I've seen a lot of Squads where I'm from let the house just burn down and call it fully engulfed with less fire than that.
I only have some concerns in regard to the vent team. One guy solo on the roof with no pack? Eh, it might be different standards but in our region we don't send anyone on the roof without the pack. Same goes for the guy breaking out glass without a helmet on. Other than that! this is an awesome display of a quick knockout
your dumb, i said they are trying to save the house, you know, by putting out the fire in the garage so it dont spread to the house... dumb ass. Hey i dont know you go ahead and be a dumb ass and run in without a pack. the DCFD knows what they are doing so whatever man.
who in this video, runs in the house without a pack i dont see anyone run in without a pack, there is a guy without a pack outside.. but none "running" in... how the hell do you know its unoccupied? your so fucking stupid you dumb fuck.
OMG!!! no chin strap call the president!! i bet your chin strap is buckeled on the brim of your helmet like every other damn firefigher in the USA i dont use mine and it stays firmly on my head, hey did you ever think about the buckle that you can tighten so your helmet stays on? and i wouldn wear a pack on the roof for venting you can move when the smoke gets near you... and the guys who had the packs on put the masks on after they were at the door... maybe its mor comfortable with out waste on
wow yeah you are pretty dumb if you are fighting with a kid my age damn man i hope i never become a faggot like you. and i bet you volunteer and i bet your company only gets about 40 calls a year wow your a great firfighter faggot.
gotta pull the ceiling in the dwelling they are entering , with a charged hose line in hand. the roof cut is second priority. Then roofman can help with knocking the drywall down with interior crew after he/she makes the cut.
i saying its a possibility... it just wouldnt make any sense there has to be water on the fire before you vent like that. so maybe it was to clear the smok but its a good way to spread the fire
I think overall this went well considering they had jus come from a previous job. The only thing i dont understand is why they vented before water was on the fire
Total CHAOS multiple fires, tunnel vision lack of command skills from the incident commander. Guys operating in the garage that already had a partial collapse. Single line thru the alpha door and its limp. a total example of lets do it and pray it works. Its not a wonder in the world why we loose brothers and sisters every day and with this display we are just asking for trouble.
I want to know how this started.. It looks like something blew up lol but hitting it with the deck gun probably would have been a better idea then with a hand line
A total loss? How do you see that, its a garage fire... the exposure isn't screwed at all, hit that fire so it doesnt run on you in the ceiling and you save the house... this isnt rocket science guys, I just wonder why so many people want this to be a DEFENSIVE operation... didnt they train us to go INTO fire?
with that much fire ,probably a truss roof, a quick knock with the engines deck gun would have been a good idea. then mop it up interiorly.. its already a total loss
This is the DCFD. We go through the Academy like everyone else. We know what we are doing. We see fire more than most departments and many of us have been in firefighting for years
I thought this was a trainning fire. If this is the way its done I think the academy needs to be revisited. TOTAL CHAOS people in a gaarage that already had a partial collapse hand lines limp in the door and floor of the dwelling guy on roof with no SCBA venting(what happens if his ass would have plunged thru the roof idiot) uncoordinated with the engine crew. come on are you a medic or something. and all you can say is we get fire Duh!!!! so does every other fire department.
Your all worried about them going into the building at the 5 minute mark without there masks on??? Atleast the had them. What about the guy on the roof with no pack on at ALL. I guess if your gonna pick shit apart maybe we should worry about the big things and not the smaller things
they had a fire, the put the weet stuff on the red stuff and it went out. thats as simple as it gets. in a perfect world, ppe would be wise but not always practical.
best f-ing firefihgtters in the world or atleast thats my opinion and the whole safety crap your complaning about just shut up stop actin like your better firefighters cause your a safe one these guys have so much experience its not even funny engine company 10 runs 900 calls a month i think they know wat there doin
The only thing i got on this saftey comment is that when that guy went running in the house with no one be hind him..im talking about "2 in,2out" where two guys go in and two guys come out TOGETHER THEY GO IN AND OUT TOGETHER,just giving some clues, not "hating" yall did a good job!-Fire chief A.Mize
osha, niosh, ifsta were all stuff we laughed about . we all knew what we were doing and were agressive firefighters who knew all until the call came out for the sofa superstore. nice video though, keep up the good work and try to be safe.
Washington D.C. is not a state. Therefore we do not have to be OSHA compliant. When a box is struck, 5 engines 2 trucks 2 BC's and a squad are dipached, and arive on scene in less than 4 min. Thats 50 men roughly. We dont have to operate alone, like many spead out VFD's. We have our own ways of operation that work for us. We attack fast with alot of backup and R.I.T. .A working fire another engine truck and chief are sent. We have enough that 2 in 2 out is'nt needed. alot goin on you cant see.
hey man I understand what you are saying, But just to let you know I am a FF II and a EMT-I. So i do hold some knowledge but your right they have there ways and they do work, but that doesn't give that 1 Firefighter the go ahead to ventilate without SCBA.
I understand what you saying. If you read the side bar you will see why things went this way. they had just left another fire ground to respond to this run. these are not normal DC procedures, as it says. He may not of even had any air left, who knows. Under normal conditions he would of had one. Im aware of your creds I read your profile before responding. FYI Most DC FF's are nationaly registered emt's and DCDOH advanced emt's aswell.
I guess a 19 year old volunteer knows everything and should go teach DCFD how to operate. All engine companies had SCBA's on, and the rescue squad that went in without them after the fire was knocked down probably masked up just inside, if they needed too. As for the truck driver on the roof he should of had it with him. Im sure you VFD wears SCBA's while conducting your exterior operations in the " HOT ZONE ", but these guys know what they are doing, and can make their own judgement calls.
OK, well I must say I am extremely amazed that these firemen conducted themselves in this moronic fashion. I mean 3 firemen going into a hot zone wearing SCBA's but no mask...dee duh dee...how stupid can you get. Then a firemen while doing an excellent job ventilating...where is his SCBA?...all I can say is think think THINK before someone dies.
Like otter said, you don't understand east coast tactics in the big city. These guys KNOW what they are doing. They go to plenty of fires and they know what works. I'm guessing your volunteer dept never had a fire at one location, and then another down the street only minutes later. The poster even said that these are not normal DCFD tactics. They did what they could with the resources that they had from the other fire. They weren't just going to sit outside and spray water like you think.
not that i have nothing against getting dirty and saving the building, but it should always be done the safest way, not the fastest or the "coolest" way possible, im sure yall know when your fightin you worry about yourself and your partner first and the building LAST, just sayin
Great work. Those who do it know it when they see it. That was good aggressive firefighting. All you who want to arm chair quarteback are the ones who will end up burning down the exposure because you want to be all neat and pretty. These guys know what it means to win dirty. How about you.
You have to get down and dirty to get the job done, i love comming home after a call smelling like smoke and covered in soot because it means you got down and dirty and got the job done.
why was there so much emphasis on a total loss garage and no attack on the extension of the fire towards the neighboring house? not bashing, just an observation. Great job on the venting though.
Um watch the video. The emphasis on the house was from the interior. You know, actually putting the fire out from the inside for a change. There were firemen in the house immediately.
The first and second due engines are responsible for laying out from an independent hydrant on approach. There is a hydrant on just about every corner in DC so the wagon driver probly hit the hydrant he saw on approach.
Personally knowing a few DC firefighters and other surrounding maryland areas, I would bet my life that any one of these guys would get the job done better than any of you could. When they talk about being the best of the best thay can back it up.
im not a hater... im not perfect. We all have cut corners a little. I have made fantastic stops in my career and I have burnt down buildings. I am NOT perfect. But I have always learned from my mistakes and improved. Most importantly!... I would never put out a video essentially promoting my self when I had performed like this. Furthermore if you look at the authors other videos the Lt. on 1 video promotes these as the best and brightest. Aggressive = Good, but Stupid = Stupid everytime.
just because someone goes to a lot of fires does not mean that they are "better". you can do the wrong things over and over like delay attack, cause unecessary damage and take unecessary risk so you can feel "cool"... but that doesn't make you better...
First off, those guys see and do a lot of work. 2nd dont be a tool and say heys not wearing ppe cause he doesnt have a scott on. Conditions on the roof were not bad enough to need to scott up. Most departments dont enforce the use of scotts on the roof. Also, they restrict you from working and tire you out quickly. I guess you would have to actually do work to know. Dick
you are delerious and probably overweight to make a comment like you did. If his ass falls thru the roof in the IDLH he is already in he stands a snow balls chancee in hell of surviving. Go back to probie school rookie.
yeah I hear you. It shows my 23 years of service Has done me well and not to mention going to countless funerals. Im a realist and you are a dreamer of how this shit should not be done. SO BROTHER I PRAY FOR YOUR BLIND ASS STAY SAFE and keep the medic unit on the road.

OMG!!! no chin strap call the president!! i bet your chin strap is buckeled on the brim of your helmet like every other damn firefigher in the USA i dont use mine and it stays firmly on my head, hey did you ever think about the buckle that you can tighten so your helmet stays on? and i wouldn wear a pack on the roof for venting you can move when the smoke gets near you... and the guys who had the packs on put the masks on after they were at the door... maybe its mor comfortable with out waste on

they should have def had water on the fire before they vented. they just gave them selves more work...
sisterofthedevils 2 years ago 2
gotta pull the ceiling in the dwelling they are entering , with a charged hose line in hand. the roof cut is second priority. Then roofman can help with knocking the drywall down with interior crew after he/she makes the cut.
engine4kwfd 2 years ago
Look at the beely on that guy @ 1.00 minute. My god!
turbodog411 2 years ago
i saying its a possibility... it just wouldnt make any sense there has to be water on the fire before you vent like that. so maybe it was to clear the smok but its a good way to spread the fire
pshidku 2 years ago
hey that was a preety cool vid man.
turbodog411 2 years ago
most deffinatly possible. but its also a very good way to futher spread the fire throughout the house
pshidku 2 years ago
were you agreeing to me. sorry, i couldnt tell.
slipknotpercussion13 2 years ago
I think overall this went well considering they had jus come from a previous job. The only thing i dont understand is why they vented before water was on the fire
pshidku 2 years ago
my guess would be so get smoke out of the house quicker, so there would be more visibility inside for a hose line team.
but not quite sure.

it's called grammar....you begin to learn it in kindergarten. Maybe you should master that task before you begin to master being a fireman.
eric2726 2 years ago
they should not have been venting in in the first place they do not have a line streched.
tgifridays40 2 years ago
Total CHAOS multiple fires, tunnel vision lack of command skills from the incident commander. Guys operating in the garage that already had a partial collapse. Single line thru the alpha door and its limp. a total example of lets do it and pray it works. Its not a wonder in the world why we loose brothers and sisters every day and with this display we are just asking for trouble.

I want to know how this started.. It looks like something blew up lol but hitting it with the deck gun probably would have been a better idea then with a hand line
pshidku 2 years ago
Yeah, woulda been REALLY intelligent to push all that fire back into the exposure with a deck gun, nice idea...
5thenickle 2 years ago
A total loss? How do you see that, its a garage fire... the exposure isn't screwed at all, hit that fire so it doesnt run on you in the ceiling and you save the house... this isnt rocket science guys, I just wonder why so many people want this to be a DEFENSIVE operation... didnt they train us to go INTO fire?
5thenickle 2 years ago
wats the name of the first song being played?
NM33FD 2 years ago
with that much fire ,probably a truss roof, a quick knock with the engines deck gun would have been a good idea. then mop it up interiorly.. its already a total loss
eng55ine 2 years ago
This shows how venting can really help at a fire.
bec1422 2 years ago 2
This is the DCFD. We go through the Academy like everyone else. We know what we are doing. We see fire more than most departments and many of us have been in firefighting for years
joshf19911 2 years ago
I thought this was a trainning fire. If this is the way its done I think the academy needs to be revisited. TOTAL CHAOS people in a gaarage that already had a partial collapse hand lines limp in the door and floor of the dwelling guy on roof with no SCBA venting(what happens if his ass would have plunged thru the roof idiot) uncoordinated with the engine crew. come on are you a medic or something. and all you can say is we get fire Duh!!!! so does every other fire department.
bossengine43 2 years ago
a great job by the guy popping da roof
nwbb43 2 years ago
Omg they went in the door at 5:00 with thier masks around thier neck wtf get ur scba on and be ready ffs
vannoy420 2 years ago
Your all worried about them going into the building at the 5 minute mark without there masks on??? Atleast the had them. What about the guy on the roof with no pack on at ALL. I guess if your gonna pick shit apart maybe we should worry about the big things and not the smaller things
krhkjag73 2 years ago
they had a fire, the put the weet stuff on the red stuff and it went out. thats as simple as it gets. in a perfect world, ppe would be wise but not always practical.

Allenmize0411 3 years ago
osha, niosh, ifsta were all stuff we laughed about . we all knew what we were doing and were agressive firefighters who knew all until the call came out for the sofa superstore. nice video though, keep up the good work and try to be safe.

We have enough that 2 in 2 out is'nt needed. alot goin on you cant see.
otter6613 3 years ago
hey man I understand what you are saying, But just to let you know I am a FF II and a EMT-I. So i do hold some knowledge but your right they have there ways and they do work, but that doesn't give that 1 Firefighter the go ahead to ventilate without SCBA.
Plvfd761 2 years ago
I understand what you saying. If you read the side bar you will see why things went this way. they had just left another fire ground to respond to this run. these are not normal DC procedures, as it says. He may not of even had any air left, who knows. Under normal conditions he would of had one. Im aware of your creds I read your profile before responding. FYI Most DC FF's are nationaly registered emt's and DCDOH advanced emt's aswell.
otter6613 2 years ago
I guess a 19 year old volunteer knows everything and should go teach DCFD how to operate. All engine companies had SCBA's on, and the rescue squad that went in without them after the fire was knocked down probably masked up just inside, if they needed too. As for the truck driver on the roof he should of had it with him. Im sure you VFD wears SCBA's while conducting your exterior operations in the " HOT ZONE ", but these guys know what they are doing, and can make their own judgement calls.
otter6613 3 years ago
OK, well I must say I am extremely amazed that these firemen conducted themselves in this moronic fashion. I mean 3 firemen going into a hot zone wearing SCBA's but no mask...dee duh dee...how stupid can you get. Then a firemen while doing an excellent job ventilating...where is his SCBA?...all I can say is think think THINK before someone dies.
Plvfd761 3 years ago
Like otter said, you don't understand east coast tactics in the big city. These guys KNOW what they are doing. They go to plenty of fires and they know what works. I'm guessing your volunteer dept never had a fire at one location, and then another down the street only minutes later. The poster even said that these are not normal DCFD tactics. They did what they could with the resources that they had from the other fire. They weren't just going to sit outside and spray water like you think.

not that i have nothing against getting dirty and saving the building, but it should always be done the safest way, not the fastest or the "coolest" way possible, im sure yall know when your fightin you worry about yourself and your partner first and the building LAST, just sayin
good job though, controlled the fire quick

1200STFD 3 years ago
Great work. Those who do it know it when they see it. That was good aggressive firefighting. All you who want to arm chair quarteback are the ones who will end up burning down the exposure because you want to be all neat and pretty. These guys know what it means to win dirty. How about you.
RCjester29 3 years ago
You have to get down and dirty to get the job done, i love comming home after a call smelling like smoke and covered in soot because it means you got down and dirty and got the job done.
bec1422 3 years ago
why was there so much emphasis on a total loss garage and no attack on the extension of the fire towards the neighboring house? not bashing, just an observation. Great job on the venting though.
I94901 3 years ago
Um watch the video. The emphasis on the house was from the interior. You know, actually putting the fire out from the inside for a change. There were firemen in the house immediately.

Why didn't anybody sleeve that hydrant on S1?
PMann9321 3 years ago
The first and second due engines are responsible for laying out from an independent hydrant on approach. There is a hydrant on just about every corner in DC so the wagon driver probly hit the hydrant he saw on approach.

Personally knowing a few DC firefighters and other surrounding maryland areas, I would bet my life that any one of these guys would get the job done better than any of you could. When they talk about being the best of the best thay can back it up.
Sabre2492 3 years ago
im not a hater... im not perfect. Aggressive = Good, but Stupid = Stupid everytime.
kfd58022 3 years ago
yea i agree with kfd. but u gotta do wat u gotta do so dont bash they because they didnt wear PPE.
firefighter1212 3 years ago
that sucked.
just because someone goes to a lot of fires does not mean that they are "better". you can do the wrong things over and over like delay attack, cause unecessary damage and take unecessary risk so you can feel "cool"... but that doesn't make you better...
kfd58022 3 years ago

those guys are no-talent ass clowns who fight fire as if they never went through fire academy. Roof ventilation with no proper PPE? Dumb ass!
02106938 3 years ago
First off, those guys see and do a lot of work. 2nd dont be a tool and say heys not wearing ppe cause he doesnt have a scott on. Conditions on the roof were not bad enough to need to scott up. Most departments dont enforce the use of scotts on the roof. Also, they restrict you from working and tire you out quickly. I guess you would have to actually do work to know. Dick
vortectahoe 3 years ago 5
you are delerious and probably overweight to make a comment like you did. If his ass falls thru the roof in the IDLH he is already in he stands a snow balls chancee in hell of surviving. Go back to probie school rookie.
