The DMCA law, is in most instances, a crappy law. But when videos are made, using someones own content, to attack, harass, and defame that person, over unsubstansiated rumors of wrongdoing, they may tend to become illegal acts. Defamation, libel, slander, and harassment do not fall under fair use, as they are criminal acts. Case law on the use of the DMCA to stop this type of criminal behaviour, is sketchy at best, but I believe justified in some cases. Only a court can really determine this.

It seems that the court of public opinion, (at least here on youtube), has already convicted Brett of a myriad of charges. Over the few past weeks, I have heard that Brett Keane is a baby raper, a wife beater, a welfare cheat, a doc dropper, a false flagger, a vote-botter, a DMCAer, and a lying sack of shit. Now I understand the want and need to warn others about potential dangers, but now all this information is out there, and nobody knows what's true or not. If anything.

I didn't see the DMCAd videos, and I don't really care to. My stance is that nobody on the net should be trusted anyway. Caveot emptor, and cover your own ass, are words I live by, and so should everyone else. I believe that this type of treatment of people, is one of the reasons that congress has developed the disastrous "cyber-bullying" bill that they are trying to pass. Not good, because more shitty laws don't help anything. I imagine I'll get a lot of hate for these views, but that's life.

In some jurisdictions, those actions (harassment and/or defamation) are chargeable offenses under criminal law. In almost all jurisdictions those actions are chargeable under civil law. The onus is on YOU, to be able to prove that these accusations are indeed true, if it does end up in the courts. I am simply stating facts here. Look them up.

How is disabling ratings censorship? How is it anywhere close to censorship? How is the ratings system in any way AT ALL related to censorship? The ratings system is a useless bit of fluff to which people attach 100% more importance than is due. If keeping 5 stars is so important, protect it against the bots. If it isn't important, leave it open to attack. But no more people will watch the video, no fewer people will watch it either. Votebotting is a TOTAL non issue. 100%.

Once your video is over a month old (and off the highest rated this month list), unless it has a bazillion views it will NEVER get on the all time list. And if it had a bazillion views you already got it watched by a bazillion people.

If you're already on those pages, you already got the views. Plenty of people already saw your videos. To get onto the all-time video list is exceptional. But the 5-star ratings go hand in hand with the number of views, and view counts can't be botted. Be happy you got so many views.

Many videos went down, because of the votebot attack (12,000 one-star ratings in 24 hours). I don't care too much, but this is a form of censorship.

Tell me one person who wakes up in the morning and thinks, 'Hey, I must see who is on the top rated all time German non-profits list'. That's my point. It's irrelevant if you're on such a list or not.

To put it another way: if you don't have many views, you don't get many ratings, so to get such high ratings you'd have to have had 1000s of views anyway. And if so who needs to be on a list? View counts can't be botted. Views count, ratings don't.

The videos that appear there appear there in part based on their rating.

Someone could make a video with the same title, and theme as one of your videos, BUT if your video has fewer stars (due to votebotting) than some that aren't as related it WILL NOT appear there.
