Billy Powell I <3 U MAN! I feel as though I was there, I feel like I knew you boys, I know I would of been a beautiful friend to you and your friends, Ronnie, Allen, Leon, Steve, Artimus, Cassie, Jo Jo, Leslie, all of y'all...I feel like I was there...You all & your music has made such an impact on my life. I <3 ya R.I.P. my friend
"If you want to hear my piano playing tribute to Billy just go to my page. I learned to play by listening to Skynyrd when I was a kid! Please let me know what you think."
This is my Skynyrd, not those goofballs running around today. Rest in peace Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, Dean Kilpatrick, Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson, Billy Powell, and Jo Jo Billingsley. None of them ever recieved the appreciation they deserve.
Billy or none of the others of Skynyrd know or knew me but they have rode around with me in my truck, on my radio for twenty years now. Billy you will be missed.
My mistake, thanks for clearing that up. I was just saying that Billy Powell once he joined up with the band, stayed with them throughout the history of Skynrd.
This band IS America. Bouncing back from adversity and tragedy to continually triumph. "and this bird will NEVER change!" As for Billy - he combined the honky-tonk of Jerry Lee Lewis, the raw rock-n-roll flash of Little Richard with some down-home southern-style kick-ass soul to create a signature sound and the back-bone of what makes this "guitar band" phenomenal. Long live Billy's memory. Blessings to his and the entire Skynyrd family.
I morn with you but your incorrect Gary Rossington who was in the band before Billy and still plays today. Billy was a rodie for the band and Ronnie (RIP) heard Billy playing Freebird on the piano and liked it so much he invited Billy to join the Band. Every one else that started the band have passed all ready.
Billy powell Was Awsome ... R.I.P

Honestly it isnt freebird without billy powell.
Billy Powell was brilliant Like Mul211 said. He made it what it is.
Honestly I dislike the original freebird with the start of the guitars in the beginning. The version with Billy Powell. is EPIC

No!!!
I just learned of Billy Powell's death of January 28. (Don't ask where I've been) and am CRUSHED!
Met them--Billy was especially kind, gently scolding me for being nervous and telling me they were "just folks--nobody special" but he was wrong.
He and they are all special--always have been--always will be.
Rest In Peace, Billy!

Billy made Freebird what it is. If you have ever heard the original demo with only guitars you know what I'm talking about.
