I LOVE Five Star! Still holds that little bit of magic for me. Dreams of a birthday, and a trip to the theme park with real good friends on a Saturday. ^_^
This sounds like LA Reid and Baby Face did the music, they were in the group called the Deele, they produced for Karyn White too, that's who this osunds like.
@ddav2005 They were trying to get a bigger American fan base, I've always been a fan, they were and still are great, you should hear Denise sing WonderWoman live. LA and Baby Face are two of the biggest producers in the world. They worked with a lot of people and still do. I wish 5 Star would come back. Maybe somebody will bring back some real talent,
It's very new jack swing ish for that song. And the females have Janet Jackson-ish hairdos, gives them a sexy look. Their dancing and choreography is very good on there! This 1991 song is just as good as their 1985 and 1986 songs, which I love the most. And I like that they produced that '91 album! I thought that they had Teddy Riley or Babyface or Jam and Lewis on it, since the song reminds me of those producers' sounds!
Wow... what an awesome performance. Doris nailed the choreography and they danced their butts off and Lorraine's vocals are amazing.... this song shoes that she can really sing. Thanks for posting.
I'm so happy I've stumbled across this. A performance I've never seen of them before, Love, love, loved it, their dancing was awesome but that guy interviewing them certainly didn't bring out the best in them did he . . . . he was soooo boring, surprised they didn't fall asleep up there - lol. What was the other song they did?
Very talented Group. They had major success in the UK, and no one can take that away from them. Moving to the US was the right move for them at the time to grow and to develop their music style. They should have broken America, but it was not their time. Five Star will always be up there with the best period.
@blackpanther33 Their success was mostly in London and around the world, but I heard a lot of their songs here in 1985, 1986 and 1987. I think their moving to L.A. in the early '90s was a way to mature their sound, get them off the teenish sounds of their '80s hits. I think that they weren't looking for bigger sales, but to get better at their music and their craft.
Wow it's always so good to see pure talent and what a positive energy, man! I remember having those Fivestar tunes in my head during the eighties because I was a huge fan. Again that was some good energy and for that THANK YOU FIVE
You can tell that this is a U.S. influenced track. More of the R&B swing, that you heard with Teddy Riley, Kieth sweat, Baby Face production sound records.
@alvindalvin It's a little bit of Teddy Riley and L.A. and Babyface's sound and a tad of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis from Janet Jackson's Control/Rhythm Nation era albums. But they sounded good. Even though their later albums never matched their '80s peak, I commend Five Star for experimenting with this new jack swing sound that everybody was trying to do in '90 and '91. They sounded and were singing better too!
They should have been bigger in the U.S. but when you have groups like New Edition, Janet Jackson, bobby brown, SWV, TLC, Envogue, BBD, Ice Cube, NWA, well Hip hop in general, ruling Record sells in the States, I guess it wasn't much room for even an excellent group like this during that time.
@alvindalvin There was a lot of heavy competion in that early '90s period. I really believe that their album was overlooked against people like EnVogue and Bell Biv Devoe and the R&B and rap artists dominating the US charts.
Delroy was exaggerating a bit on that part. The album was produced by Ian Prince (including this song), Zac Harmon & Christopher Troy, and Peter Bunetta & Rick Chudacoff. However, group members did write some of the songs on the album.
When they were on Soul Train performing this there were only a few tracks from the Shine album completed, so Del was referring to the Five Star album.
@retrorhythms I heard Ian Prince, Zac Harmon and Christopher Troy's songs for artists a lot in 1990 and 1991. They were that good with their slick sounding early '90s R&B and pop songs that they created. Delroy might have mentioned the songs the group produced before the Prince, Harmon and Troy produced songs later made the album. And Peter Bunetta is still around today producing songs--still at it after over 20 years! He even did songs for Hilary Duff's albums.
Wow, I love the way they move. Incredible. This vocal is Fantastic, it really showcases her voice. It's not just a catchy poppy vocal. She has a wonderful voice. She should have had an amazing career after this as a solo artist. She has real vocal talent.
i love 5 star and a major fan allways have been shame there move to the usa did f all, shine and the albim shine(1991) are amazing the group looked amazing
All the person sisters are very sexy women (and they still are). Deniece (or Loraine, I forgot) use to date Eddie Murphy, before the comedian made Mel B pregnant!
This proves it that five Star and there's not equivilant. Nobody dancers like nor harmonises like Five Star! I remember the 80's when we were all dancers, singers and the like and nothing else mattered. Go! go! go! go! go! go! go! Five Star
Soooooooo freakin awesome! Wish the quality was better though. =/
