epic sound groove, jam whatever ye want to call it ,but it's not rock'nroll in it's highest form, for the simple reason that ,the crowd is sitting and therefore an 'audience' and they're all white gals, rock'n'roll in it's highest form ,would be men and women dancing to this music that's what brings it to it's highest form, in my opinion.those girls in the white dresses are deadly
What is the story behind Bo Diddley's famous guitar designs. He took Gretches and somehow fabricated those bodies, but who and how did he do in in 1957 about...?
Started my life long love of Bo's music in the 50's when listening to the great WLIB and WOV in NYC. Caught him at Alan Freed stage shows, where he was always the "closer', and just tore it up. Later I would catch him when he performed in westport, CT. I think the held the dances at either the Italian Club on Franklin Street or a couple of times at Longshore. What a performer and innovator.
Unfortunately, like a lot of performers in those days, he got screwed out of a lot of money.
I was 16 in HS in 1955 when this song by Bo became popular. I saw him live in Concert 12 years ago and he said " Rap is Crap " I thought how right you are my old friend. I don't know how they can even call it music.
@jeffjoseph During the last month of THE TONIGHT SHOW with Johnny Carson everybody and his brother wanted to be on that show. CHUCK BERRY was on and Johnny Carson asked him about RAP music. Chuck Berry said "That ain't music,,who wants a bunch of Fat Guys with Gold Chains jumpin in you face".
The TNT Show! I saw it in a movie theater and never forget it. Thankfully, i finally have it on dvd. If there is a class higher than legend, then that is the class that Bo Diddley is in. It still thrills me fifty years later to watch him perform!
We need your help to fight the managers of our father's estate.
Daddy loved us and the managers Margo Lewis, Faith Fusillo and Ronald Stevens hate us. I have a recording of Lewis telling me "that cocksucker (Stevens) is trying to wash his hands" "he's stealing", then they sat on the same side with him in court, against us. Though my dad was a musical genius, these three have taken advantage of the fact that my dad was illiterate and could not understand his contract/Will.
This is great ... makes me wish I were a teenager back in those days. And you can tell it isn't lip-synch, this is live. Is that Duchess on the guitar? She's awesome.
@zapatatales I was about five when he was doing this in the late fifties, and this kind of music always had this effect on me. I loved rock & roll even then.
Wait a minute! Those four gals at the end who were sitting in the bleachers and doing that rolling number with their hands...that same scene is in the most classic video of The Ronettes doing "Be My Baby". "Stock footage"??!!! Which one is the original? Whatever. Great performances anyway. I think SO MUCH of the old rock was based on the Bo Diddley song, the guitar. No coincidence that youtube has a link to the Stones "Not Fade Away" here.
At first I thought, "Oh no, this is Bo messing about with his original hit version", but I soon succumbed to the powerful rhythm and superb stage act of this performance : the girls in the group are such a star turn (especially the one nearest, with the copulating dance-movement), Bo is quite a mover himself, and the girls, white and black, are all getting into the spirit of it , the frenzy of it, and understandably so.
it's so cute that the girls in the audience are just wiggling and hopping around because they don't know what to do. They probably never had real rock before that point in time.
Love Bo's subtle walk, the footwork, the guitar pointed out in front, al of it! Bo just had sex with music itself and I enjoyed watching the act!
@MeGottaGo1 1. What an ugly thing to say! They were not "horny" They are young girls. 2. One of them is my sister. 3. They "pay for the records" so Bo can have a career. 4. Try getting some class.
Epic performance from Bo Diddley. This song and the one that precedes it represent rock and rock in its highest form. Who knows how many shows or how many miles on the road Bo spent that day, but one thing is clear. It all came together that night and those girls were treated to a legendary show in one of the greatest rock and roll performances ever captured on film. He was feeling it that night. That's not rehearsed, that's Bo Diddley's soul pouring out on that stage.
