The first week is more about giving the system a shock and giving the two a 'wake up call' of sorts. in this case it's about portion size

skinny amy usually doesn't have much as far as portion goes and replaces meal with cola. Fat amy eats way too much. The change in portion sizes actually do help change the amount of food you can take in.

Remember this is just one small part of the 3month program

Even though she is very fit and small (in a healthy way) she always comes home buying miniature donuts, macaroons...and it makes me angry, because I bake a lot and I could've made those things for her. I'm Juli from NC....yep, back then I was the obese woman from America. But now I'm 150 pounds lighter. I can walk a 5K, and life is totally different than when they came to my home to film this show. Wish they did updates....then I could show them that Americans can also come back from adversity and kick some major ass. Still have some weight to lose.....but my life is totally different now. Seems like I'm watching another person entirely when I see this....THANK GOD that isn't me anymore!
