The US isn't as competitive in the Olympics because we have superior breeding habits. We have so many friggin people there's just better odds that someone will be good at whatever it is. My point being that there are far fewer women that are interested in sports, so the pool for finding ones who actually know something about and can articulate an argument about sports is much smaller.

Your point about the Babes not saying anything new is also right on. I believe there are far too many sports shows. My opinion appears to be in the minority, however, since they keep popping up. Sports people, for whatever reason, can't get enough of hearing about sports. It would be nice to hear something insightful from all of them, but there just isn't that much information.
Soccer has taken as long as it has to get popular in main stream America because it's not high scoring. A real fan can watch a scoreless game and think it was the best game he's seen in his entire life. The mainstream fan could watch the same game and say nothing happened.
An interesting example of the differences in the way a game is played is Soccer. There are tons and tons of leagues across the world and they are all playing the exact same game. There are differences in how the game is generally played per league, ie. defensively, offensively, physically focused. I don't know what the ratings numbers are like for the different leagues, but I know that some are more interesting to watch than others.
Sports change from time to time to make them more palatable to the masses. There will always be fans who love a game for what it is, and in turn love to watch a team/player play it flawlessly. There will also always be the fans who watch because it's entertaining or fun or whatever else draws people in. Unfortunately for the first group, the second group is bigger and the powers that be are forced to cater to the second group.

Christian131 - First off, I love it when men speak up and offer a challenge. Game 4 Suns vs. Spurs, 4th quarter: Duncan commits 3 straight TO's and is taken out of the game with 8:55 left. Duncan re-enters the game at 7:33 and commits 2 straight TO's again cutting their lead to 3 points. Pop sits him down again w/5 min. left in the game and he doesn't return till less than 3 min left in regulation.
Furthermore, both times Duncan is sat down after TO's, NOT after being called for fouls, just plain old turnovers. The Spurs lose that game, which they shoulda won. And when Popovich saw his superstar screwing up he wasn't afraid to sit his ass down which is the point that was made. So to answer your question: YES, WE WATCH THE GAME.

It's so annoying when people call the Spurs a boring team. It sounds like so much media rhetoric. If you're a true fan of the NBA, how can it be boring? Superb defense, efficient offense, true team chemistry. The Spurs want to win games, not put on a talent show, that's what the All Star game is for.

Last word: You got beat in Game 7 on your own turf by a better team. Dallas beat you 7-0. Manu and Tony are just overrated and wouldn't even be in the NBA without Duncan and Robinson. Tim Duncan is more worried about winning MVP awards. KG and Dirk have better stats, better leadership, and are better players. SA only wins titles when players like Brent Barry, Robert Horry and Kevin Willis step up. Manu, Tim, and Tony are NOT enough to win a title and are horribly overrated.

The US isn't as competitive in the Olympics because we have superior breeding habits. We have so many friggin people there's just better odds that someone will be good at whatever it is. My point being that there are far fewer women that are interested in sports, so the pool for finding ones who actually know something about and can articulate an argument about sports is much smaller.

The majority of women don't know as much about sports as guys do. I think this show could actually be along the right path to getting more women interested, but they will always be in the minority. It's just how we're wired. Being a woman or a man doesn't have anything to do with your ability to have and opinion about a sport. In high school sports, the bigger schools typically have better sports teams because they have a larger pool of athletes to choose from.

Sports people, for whatever reason, can't get enough of hearing about sports. It would be nice to hear something insightful from all of them, but there just isn't that much information.

An interesting example of the differences in the way a game is played is Soccer. There are tons and tons of leagues across the world and they are all playing the exact same game. There are differences in how the game is generally played per league, ie. defensively, offensively, physically focused. I don't know what the ratings numbers are like for the different leagues, but I know that some are more interesting to watch than others.

Sports change from time to time to make them more palatable to the masses. There will always be fans who love a game for what it is, and in turn love to watch a team/player play it flawlessly. There will also always be the fans who watch because it's entertaining or fun or whatever else draws people in. Unfortunately for the first group, the second group is bigger and the powers that be are forced to cater to the second group.

My point was (and is) that to call the Spurs an ideal team, then to call them boring (as these ladies did), is to assert that when the game is played as it ideally should, it is boring; thus, the game is intrinsically and essentially boring. Not everyone thinks so, and those who do shouldn't be commenting on it.

I'm sure there are many reasons why they are getting low ratings. this is just my opinion, it's the Cavs terrible offence that's not providing for a competitive game. Everyone knows that they are going to lose and don't bother to watch the game, san antonio is not a major basketball city either. if LA new york or chicago aren't in the final people just don't watch. san antonio is a better team just not flashy. I really just get turned off be the lack of competition from the Cavs.

Christian131 - First off, I love it when men speak up and offer a challenge. Game 4 Suns vs. Spurs, 4th quarter: Duncan commits 3 straight TO's and is taken out of the game with 8:55 left. Duncan re-enters the game at 7:33 and commits 2 straight TO's again cutting their lead to 3 points. Pop sits him down again w/5 min. left in the game and he doesn't return till less than 3 min left in regulation.

Furthermore, both times Duncan is sat down after TO's, NOT after being called for fouls, just plain old turnovers. The Spurs lose that game, which they shoulda won. And when Popovich saw his superstar screwing up he wasn't afraid to sit his ass down which is the point that was made. So to answer your question: YES, WE WATCH THE GAME.

Bukeye - the point being made is that Pop knows how to handle each player on an individual basis. He doesn't use a cookie cutter method when he deals with his guys, he knows how to make the right adjustments, and when it comes to the playoffs that's what it's all about: adjustments.

A team can have all the fundamentals and be boring. Compare the Warriors to the Spurs. The Spurs are better but I'd rather watch the Warriors. Tim Duncan is very unemotional, so is Papovich, they aren't flashy and thats fine but it is more entertaining to watch a team that gets fired up more than they do.
