In Mexico, we kinda make a fruit salad with jicama, mango and cucumber and douse them with fresh squeezed lime juice and chili powder. It is a very delicious and filling snack.
French fries are not from France. Go to Paris, they won't serve you fries unless you go to Mac Donald's to get awfull fries because it's a fast food. Fries comes from Belgium (with the beer, chocolate and waffles !), just above Franche. And they are made out of binche potatoes and fried in boiling oil (and not just any oil !)
Ridiculous. Disposable plastic boards are way bad for the environment - unless they're recyclable. Bamboo or wood boards actually take very little effort to care for. Bamboo is sustainable. The funny thing is, she is willing to put all the effort it takes to make raw food (and while this is an easy recipe, a lot of raw food is time consuming), but not sanitize a wood board?

OMG. LOL. You are hilarious. In a good and funny way. You are also very cute! I laughed so much of your video. It was a very good laugh, and a very good video, as well. Please make more videos. You are talented! Thank you.
Jicama is very sweet- It's overwhelmly sweet, but it is good raw. I like ot use it in juices. I have to slices it paper thin when I eat it raw because it is so sweet-or have to mix it with something. The texture is like a raw potato but softer.
In Germany french fries are called Pommfritz and no French fries are not from France The Belgian historian Jo Gerard recounts that potatoes were already fried in 1680, in the area of "the Meuse valley between Dinant and Liège, Belgium.
Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)
Hah.... FYI.. the traditional way french fries are cut is a french cut (sliced lengthwise into long, thin strips). "French cut potatoes which are fried" was too long of a name, so it became french fries.
LOL, I think this video is hilarious. You are so cute. I love the part when you taste the cayenne. The way your eyes shift back and forth as it is registering in your brain that you've got a mouth full of red pepper is priceless. I must have rewound it a hundred times. Thanx 4 the recipe. :-D
I use a glass cutting board I think it's wayyyyy better than wood and plastic. With glass and plastic you get the cutting lines- but with glass you get nothing- just wipe it off, no cool/fry place necessary! And it last forever, mine was handed down from my late NaNa, Still looks as good as new to me!
thank you for your video! but i have to say: disposable cutting boards! ahhh! we don't need more plastic in the world AND you'll be getting micro-bits of plastic in your food too. i only use wooden cutting boards. they are naturally more sanitary than plastic and as you mentioned, they will get moldy unless you keep them dry...so just keep them dry!
And I hear where you're coming from on the "it tastes okay..." kinda' thing. I'm a horrible "cook"; it's my fault my food tastes funny, but I like raw food, no matter how much it makes me want to wretch from time to time. =D
No seriously LOL I didn't want to insult Victoria Boutenko.. It was her first book probably. Now she's an expert.. But it's better if you don't try this recipe at home. :)
It is great that you are looking after yourself but you should consider the environment as well - if you take as much care with your chopping boards as you do with yourself you will not have to harm the environment by throwing out those plastic ones.
By the way those plastic chopping boards are made from petro chemicals which are very unhealthy for you.
I'm sure it's better this way LOL. I like it even without lemon and salt he-he :) Usually my Mexian friends make it this way. Lemon and salt also works very well for radishes. But I'll try it for jicama. Thanks for the tip ;)

Noooooooooooo! NEVER use water to wash the burn form peppers form you mouth! It washes off the mucous and can therefor ore make for MORE burn.
Try:
Milk (whole is best but any will help.)
A piece of bread
Vinegar - yes it is counter intuitive but the acid helps to neutralize the capsicum

dancenijas,
potatoes cannot be eaten raw, dehydrated or not.

@pyogazel I think those are not potatoes. It's jicama. Everybody eats it raw here.

What about trees? I think ceramic ones is the best choice.

Trees regrow, ceramic is way less sustainable.

Which ones do you use? :)
GoodAndRaw 3 years ago
Wood works best, can last for years and should not go moldy if taken care of.
Wipe/rinse after each use and never soak.
Store in a cool dry location.
SuzannaSan 3 years ago
Thanks for the tip.. But I'll still keep looking for the ceramic boards though.. I happen not to find any of them in the U.S.
