  • I wonder if mormons get that this song is making fun of the fact mormonism is a made-up religion by a convicted con-man in NY. I find it hilarious. Lol

  • @MrDrewboggess What? Trey Parker and Matt Stone didn't mean that to be the message of this song at all!

  • I have a bunch of Mormon friends and whenever I'm around them I bust out singing this song. Classic.

  • *Cough* I have confidence (sound of music) *Cough*

  • Lol!! I'm listening to this for the first time, and it makes me giggle that the first verse is a parody of "I Have Confidence" from The Sound of Music!!

  • Cannot wait for this to come to London, though thankfully the Mormon religion hasn't quite hit on over here.

  • Thumbs up if you're mormon and didn't get offended (:

  • Question, not to do w the Morman faith, but w Jehovah Witness doctrine...2 nice ladies came to my home and I talked w them for a bit, but I am a believer in Jesus Christ, I am a christian and we had a great convo. We each shared what we believed and I asked ?'s that I think most wouldn't & some they couldn't really give me an answer to, but what struck me a little weird is when they were getting ready to leave I asked if I could pray w them and they acted as if I had the plague, why was that??

  • seeing this in march so excited

  • @wweecw1 WHERE?!?!?!?!?!

  • @chavez5510 nyc

  • @wweecw1 Enjoy! It's even better in person.

  • "A warlord who shoots people in the face.

Now, what's so scary about that?"

    Hmmm... Let me think.

  • You can buy a backing track for this song now, it's at btracks.com!

  • I hope this one travels soon!

  • I am an ex-mormon who lived my first 28 years in the LDS church, and this song speaks to me. If you take out all the satire, it could be straight out of the EFY soundtrack and very easily be used to build the faith of countless young mormons. Still it captures the greatness of being a mormon along with the struggle of the cognitive dissonance that mormons often face. Brings a tear to my eye.

  • @anzianokable honestly these songs make me think - "Mormons seem pretty cool, it could be a religion I would consider"

  • @anzianokable im new to the mormon church and this song is very touching excluding the blastphemic parts.

  • Please take your religious quarrels elsewhere. They are making it difficult to enjoy this awesome song.

  • @NROCK2404 holy shit are you really that close minded of a person?

  • I believe this song is addictive and fun

  • I really do hope that God's plan involves me getting my own planet.! That would be dope! Lol

  • Whose are the 9 people who disliked...oh wait we dont care bout them

  • saw this last night - life changing experience!! incredible balance of wonderfully ridiculous plot, characters and lyrics, combined with genuinely fantastic music. Definitely found a new dream role in Elder Price!

  • 9 People don't get their own Planet.....

  • @NRock2404

People will believe in what they want to believe. It's useless trying to tell them that they're stupid or wrong just because you don't believe in the same thing. So quit wasting your time and do something productive!

  • @NRock2404 you're also a complete idiot. stop thinking things please, i don't think it's your strong suit.

  • @NRock2404 just because you don't believe in a religion (which is fine) doesn't mean you should go around bitching because there are people who do. this musical is a comical representation of one of the many religions outt there. if we have to accept YOU for who YOU are and what YOUR beliefs are then you have to accept OTHERS for who THEY are and what THEIR beliefs are.

  • @broadwaybaby243 Yes, and what I'm saying, and what the real world should do, is not accept YOU, or your other CULT MEMBERS and YOUR stupid religion that HINDERS, MANIPULATES, BRAINWASHES and KILLS the INNOCENT and smart. Religion does not get any sympathy. In fact I'm not harsh enough. Considering how immoral, evil, racist, close minded, destructive and intolerant religion is, no one following that shit deserves any kind of mercy other than a dose of cyanide that will put them out.

  • @NRock2404

It seems you've fallen into a mindset in which you blame a belief system for those who exploit its followers, rather than those who exploit the belief system. That is to say, governments that use an atheistic belief system can be just as bad as one using theistic foundations. It would be disingenuous to say otherwise.

  • @NRock2404

Wow, I think you might be the dumbest person on Youtube. And that's saying something. What the real world should do is lock YOU in your HOUSE with no INTERNET so that you can't INFECT other people with your STUPIDITY.

  • @NRock2404 I really hope you realize the irony of that statement.

  • @NRock2404

Shut up. It's a joke, the song is simply about him getting his faith back in a satrical musical. so...shhhhhh

  • @NRock2404 U mad, bro? :D

  • "AND I BELIEVE IN 1978 GOD CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE!!!! (black people!!!)" LOL

  • @Pigboy501 Yeah. God shouldn't have that done that.

  • FACK YOU

  • @Tesuji96--this is in no way argumentative just wanted to present facts, I'm a 5th generation Mormon and the doctrinal belief of Mormonism is that god was once human and became a god through a mortal test and that that is the point of existence now, to gain eternal life and godhood--the belief is that there are worlds without end like this one and gods without end of their respective worlds/planets--they do believe they will create their own worlds as gods in the celestial kingdom.

  • I really enjoy this song. Very well done. However, don't think that this musical isn't offensive to Mormons. It contains a lot of inaccuracies and distortions of what Mormons believe. Sexualizing baptism, for example, is highly offensive. And this song - Mormon's don't "just believe." And "you get your own planet" is an inaccurate description of what Mormons believe about the life hereafter.

  • @Tesuji96 I think "my own planet" statement was just something out of Price's own confidence. Also, it doesn't quite matter whether every single Mormon believes these concepts (Jackson's Eden, Kolab), it matters to the writers of this musical that that it fairly fits in Mormon beliefs and its ridiculous and yet all this ridiculousness never overrides the quality of their good character.

  • @nomdesouris Unless you're trying to sanctify murder in the muslim faith as a obligation then that is exactly what I'm saying. Yes you can repent but the fact is MURDER IS WRONG AND ANYONE WHO APPROVES OR PRACTICES IT IS NOT A CHRISTIAN. You WILL however remain a muslim because you guys believe in murder as a way to "convert" non believers.

  • @Blitzem2787 You realize that is a complete lie right? Yes, there are extremist Muslims, but there are extremist Christians too. Stop saying that Muslims are so terrible, especially since their religion is so close to Christianity.

  • @Blitzem2787 you're an idiot. don't make your thoughts public.

  • God doesnt have his own planet... ?

  • @nomdesouris If anyone claiming that he is a Christian, murders someone because they are not, they are not Christian. I believe you are referencing the inquisition when you say murderers. I Timothy 4:2-3 "Speaking lies in hypocrisy,......(vs 3) forbidding to marry,..." Catholicism is clearly the one being spoken of here. As for Islam, Galations 1:8 "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be damned." Gabriel right?

  • @Blitzem2787 Oh, yawn. By that rationale you can argue that anyone who calls himself a Muslim and commits a murder is no longer a Muslim. That's a load of horse shit; murder, torture and all manner of horrors have been carried out in the name of Christianity and Islam and Judaism. Does that mean that all adherents of Abrahamic religions believe murder is okay? No. But people HAVE used the holy texts of all these faiths to justify the murder, torture and oppression of nonbelievers. You know this.

  • @nomdesouris I think we can all agree that religions are retarded. and religious texts provide an excuse for retarded people of any race colour or culture to commit murders and other despicable things.

Religious tolerance in a way is like saying that we don't need mad houses because nobody is really "mad"!

  • honestly, all religions are just about the same amount of crazy.

  • I'm a little surprised at the venom in some of these Youtube comments. It was made with the creators of SOUTH PARK. It wasn't going to NOT be offensive.

  • I love this song " I am a Mormon" I love that part

I wish i lived in New York I would see this in a heart beat

  • @videoparty1 If you could get tickets . . .

  • its so funny because everything he says in this song is actually part of their religion, eve the part about god changing his mind about black people

  • "Dang it!" :D the word dang just cracks me up every time! Great song though!

  • this kid gotta be the kid who played bobby strong from urinetown original cast

  • im a mormon and i find this hilarious

  • the people who wrote this musical arn't even LDS ! becaus if they were, they wouldn't drop the F bomb at the end.

  • @gaspbreanna

    no shit

  • @gaspbreanna actually one of them was a devout Mormon and then realized how retarded it was.

  • @gaspbreanna ....um. And your point? ('Cause I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice aren't actually living in a basement under an opera wearing a half-mask either. Also, neither TS Eliot nor Andrew Lloyd Webber are actually cats. Come to that, 'The Lion King' wasn't written by a lion, and 'Wicked' wasn't actually written by a green woman in a magical world called Oz. Do you begin to sense a pattern?)

  • I love how the beginning to this song is a shout-out to "I Have Confidence" from Sound of Music. :)

  • 3 mormons have viewed this video....

  • love the chords to this

  • this is my favorite song in the whole show, he has a beautiful voice. <3

  • Mormonism survived because they think their current prophets speak directly to god and they can change their doctrine. That is why old school mormons are still polygamists because they do not think the current prophets speak to god lol Anyways I am going to go to school right now so i can one day improve man kind without religion....

  • Is this Princeton from Avenue Q singing?

  • @TrisketsCheese Nope this is Andrew Rannells and the guy who played Princeton/Rod was John Tartaglia. But they do sound alike.

  • So this is "I Have Confidence"

  • I hate religion... They say there here to help and follow faith and do the right thing. its called a point of view theres no such thing as bad and good not to mention 90% of wars started over religions.

  • @XxICraigIxX you really need to read a history book

  • @mr8ucket sorry im straight

  • @loggats do you realize how stupid you sound when you say that?

  • They should start putting this song in Hymnals.

  • Is anyone else hearing the parallel between the beginning of this and the beginning of "I Have Confidence" from The Sound of Music?

  • This guy has a good voice!

  • "the fuck is this" rofl!

  • man i learn alot from this song

  • Mormons have "current prophets" they speak to god and change things like in 1978 god changed his mind about black people ~ anyways jokes on them if they choose to see that or "turn it off"

  • To fond out more about Mormons go to Mormons.org

  • Hahahah- CTR

  • @cahl1337 how fucking ignorant are you you prick

  • @ROMAbauer bah someone posted something i didn't like, i'm gonna cuss them out

  • @cahl1337 Eric Cartman, is that you?

  • Comment removed

  • I like it when Mormons come to my door, most of them are kinda hot.

  • @skewlboypin check out the movie latter day it talk about a gay mormon

  • Is this play going to be an insult to mormons? It kinda seems that way.

  • @heygirlhey1601 Yes and no, I would guess. Trey indicated in an interview that he isn't an atheist, and thinks absolute atheism is just as stupid and arrogant as blind religious faith. However, the impression I get from South Park is that he and Matt don't necessarily think any of the religions are "true", but often have a lot of value in terms of society and morals. In the show they indicate they think the history of Mormonism is silly, but that it has a lot of good moral and societal values.

  • i love mormons

  • @TweedleDeeSings it also was taken from a Jericho Road song called I Believe. The three notes "I believe" are the same in both songs.

  • brilliant

  • In all truth Mormons are no more foolish than all other religions. Agnosticism is the true way.

  • Being a convert to the mormon church I see this from a different perspective. This will not be the last time someone who doesn't really get it try to explain it. "Brainwashed" not, heart-washed absolutely! A "convert" is given an open door to knowingly accept a lifelong of service and sacrifice, it would take a lot more than "brainwash" for me to accept those terms. Something happened that only a real convert can comprehend or appreciate; a conversation with God that the door was His way.

  • @mgwilliams1 Actually, thats actually what a brainwash would do. Just saying.

  • @mgwilliams1 by "conversation with god" you, of course, mean acid trip

  • how do magnets work?

  • Mormons are brainwashed and foolish.

  • @loggats no they are most definatly not.

  • I like a lot of things about Mormons, having known lots. The patriarchal, old fashioned church is run by OLD MEN and that kind of structure can hurt a lot of people. I know lots of LGBT kidscast out of their famiies, which is everything in the religion. Also, some kids who were sexually abused and it was covered up by the bishops.. Add to the that, the clannishness that is both cause and result of their own actions in the past.Their beliefs are wacky, like Scientology! women have to sneak power.

  • Religion is inconsequential. Believing in God is all that matters, irregardless of how you choose to do it. Do you honestly think an omnipotent being cares what you spend your Sundays or Saturdays doing? if you truly believe, do what he would do, care for the people you see around you. If Jesus is the son of God, are you walking the path he would take? Give that bum change for a meal, hope it's what he chooses to spend your nickels on. If you can't believe in another human I feel bad for you.

  • This is surprisingly uplifting, I might convert if I don't stop listening.

  • P.S. There is absolutely NO WAY to separate Mormonism & Prop 8. Prop 8 was carried out by the Mormon Church to oppress a large portion of the population based on religious beliefs. Prop 8 has WRECKED lives and families. Mormons are not typically pro-family. They only support a very narrow definition of family.

  • To me, the whole song is just a little ode to the endearing side of foolishness. I really enjoy it. However..

My grandfather was a Mormon, and I've known a lot of Mormons.

There really is no way to dress up the racism, and the cruelty to LGBTQI children & adults deeply imbedded in Mormon culture. This isn't all Mormons, but the physical & mental torture put upon people has stolen many lives, and it's considered acceptable in the church. Electric Shock & "conversion camps" - not very kind.

  • Saw it on broadway. One of the best shows I've ever seen. You can't really appreciate just by listening to the album. You have to see it live!!!!!!!!

  • After listening this soundtrack, I was wrong about The Book of Mormon musical. It was funny. I still don't like South Park, but I have to give them props for this.

  • This song is such an emotionally enjoyable song. It goes back and forth from feeling supportive of them to laughing at how silly the Mormon faith sounds. It's awesome songwriting.

  • @invadercheeze This sums it up pretty well. I feel like this song comes from a loving place, like poking fun at a friend.

  • @execthegaming Well, Parker and Stone did mention they never met a Mormon they didn't like. After all, they did grow up around Mormons.

  • @invadercheeze In an interview with Parker and Stone, they said something along the lines of "This is a three-notes song. On 3, we must give the joke. So on the third note, we threw in the most absurd Mormonism belief in as a fact, and a joke." Parker and Stone also stated in the inteview they liked most Mormons and Parker admires their ability to handle any conservation.

  • I am so obsessed with this soundtrack

  • I just giggle that the choir just has to repeat "Black people!"

  • They should get rid of the Like button for this song and replace it with a LOVE button.

  • this song is actually just amazing!

  • No matter what opinion you have of Mormons, they have so much to offer to society: values of family, kindness, optimism. Why does everyone else focus on the more offensive songs "Hasa Diga..."? Beacause they are obsessed with something offensive and twist it into religious-hated themes. Give this anthem a listen. Maybe its absurd, but a Mormon just believes. How does this song does not make you grin cheesily and salute them as we respect their beliefs? To be kind is real shock-factor.

  • @AliaSparrow Oh come on, stop this bullshit about hatred to Mormons already. This musical is an olive branch from non believers to believers, both groups can enjoy it and yes, different people will appreciate different parts of it more. Just because we find you religion extremely funny does not mean that we hate you.

  • @AliaSparrow dont be a self righteous ass. no one really thinks that this show is anti mormon, and hasa diga ebowei has nothing to do with mormonism, its just funny. this song is one of the ones that pokes more fun at the actual mormon beliefs. fucking chill

  • @AliaSparrow you know when this song says Price believes heaven was in Missouri. That should tell you a little something about the meaning of this song.

Besides you shouldnt need to be a mormon to be kind, love your family OR be optimist! Just like you shouldnt need any motivations to be those things other than what those things are actually for! Mormons are kind and all that because they think theyll get to heaven. Just like christians or muslims (although the ladder kill othersinsteadofloving

  • @Elghast Oh ffs, Christians and Jews are just as guilty of murdering people of different faiths as Muslims have ever been; thousands upon thousands of Muslims are just getting on with their lives and finding basis in the teachings of the Prophet Mohamed to live peacefully and be tolerant of other religions. Don't even go there with the bullshit Islamaphobia. It's no better or worse than any of the other Abrahamic religions. Get over yourself.

  • @nomdesouris Boo fucking hoo. So what about muslims in Mecca not tolerating ANY other religion in that area? seriously you can get arrested if you are a christian anywhere near the mecca! So why should intolerant people like muslims be deserving of any tolerance whatsoever?

Religions in general are just an old burden. Soon enough they will be disbanded because what humanity needs is not bulshit desert legends anymore, or "miracles" and all that. Humanity needs KNOWLEDGErealTANGIBLEconsequential

  • @Elghast LOL - "desert legends." thats a good one

  • @Elghast Some men rape babies. Does that mean all men rape babies? No. Some Muslims are intolerant. Does that mean all Muslims are intolerant? No. DUH. Muslims are no better or worse than Christians or Jews when it comes to bigotry. Make your general statements about religion all you like - fair play to you. But start picking on Islam in particular, above and beyond Mormonism or Christianity or Judaism, and that's the point at which you brand yourself an ignorant racist twat.

  • @nomdesouris It's the fucking Mecca! You know? It's the holiest place for muslims! And in or near the Mecca people of NO other religions are allowed! And you are calling ME and ignorant racist twat? Seriouslyhow can people who every day, twice a day, bow down towards a symbol of intolerance, be deserving of any tolerance whatsoever?

  • Heheh. I'm sure that I'm the rest of the views.
