So who exactly was "Alice" that Strange was referring to. At first I thought it would be Vicky Vale since Strange would probably want the Hatter to silence her and that Batman would have to save her on a mission, but that didn't happen so now I'm just confused. Revealed in sequel maybe? I don't know.
@ConorC96 I suppose it was wishful thinking on my part. I just thought that scenario would be cool and reminiscent of the Hatter first appearance on Batman: TAS. But I think what we got was still pretty cool, I just wish they did a little more with him instead of just a side-mission.
Mad Hatter is an underrated Batman villain. I never took much notice to him before Arkham City, but once I saw what he's capable of, I can't get enough of him.
@jynxie3vex this interview could have taken place BEFORE Arkham City was built and before Arkham Asylum happened. Strange even talks about plans for Arkham City.
HOLD ON!!! "brought to arkham asylum 6 months ago" BUT the events of Arkham City take place 1 YEAR after Arkham Asylum. and in the asylum, one riddle s in reference to the Hatter. His teacups, remember!?
@jynxie3vex This interview took place a long time before the events of Arkham Asylum... the mind control devices of Jervis Tetch were what lead Sharpie to become "the Spirit of Amadeus Arkham."
@13thmistral Pity? But yes. It's much much more realistic. His nervous pain and fixation are very hard to hear and not cause sympathy. Even the fact that he seems to feel very sorry for his crimes. It's almost ironic, a genius who can bend minds to his will, but he's completely at the mercy of his own demented one.
His section of the game felt like it was just stuck on near the end(considering you unlock of his tapes and other tiems just by defeating him) but his Peter MacNicol could not have done a more amazing job voicing him. A lot of reviews for Arkham City say that the game doesn't develop its villians enough, the interview tapes prove them wrong. The fact that so much of what happens during story is explained through them adds to the games brilliance, nearly nothing in the game happened by chance.
I actually feel a bit sorry for him here. The other characters may be sick and twisted, but still have some grip on reality and their decisions. Jervis may be totally insane.
btw the reason his patch changes color is because the subtitles for the tape come with a blue highlight on part of the image, no matter what while playing, its just conicidental that it looks only on his patch on his image
He reminds me of Peter MacNicol (the guy providing his voice) back when he was doing his parody of Dwight Frye. He even looks like the two of them in this.
Shit this is creepy. Mad Hatter is a psychopath and he's done atrocious acts, but at the same time he's not quite at the level of the Joker. Joker is a true monster; one who knows and is completely aware of what he's doing is evil. Hell, he may not even really be crazy. Jervis however is essentially autistic; his mind is broken, fragile and destroyed. He's got no idea what he's doing is wrong. It's for that he's evil, but not truly.
@TheInstantClassic1 I don't think autistic quite fits there, but I entirely agree otherwise. schizophrenic is how the game defines it, of the paranoid variety.
He's not even evil, he's just mentally ill. And COMPLETELY incapable of being part of modern society, he's totally lost in his schizophrenic delusions. I agree with whotookCheesusChrist, I feel really sorry for this poor man. Amazing voice work.
@thesorrow777 The thing is, if he's mentally ill he's unable to distinguish between right and wrong and the consequences of his actions. He and Zsasz both have this and are completely lost in their delusions, whereas The Joker at least knows what he's doing is morally wrong, but he just doesn't care (classic anti-social personality disorder). But aside from that, the voice acting on this is just amazing, the actors change from "Don't pout, don't make me shout..." to "Where is she" is perfect.
I find it interesting how the man who plays Hugo Strange, Corey Burton is also the current voice of the Disney version of the White Rabbit.
