  • Que escalas usas?

  • I think our cameraman has a little ADHD going on.

  • I owned one of the first Fender Jazz basses; it was a 1960 model and was sunburst like this one. It had a cheesy tail piece and a bridge over the strings near the tail piece that Fender has now (thankfully) removed. I wish I still had it.

  • nice condition for a bass made in the 60s and I didnt know they were made in mexico at that time too

  • @Ju105 its a reissue so it was probably brand new when this video was made

  • Nice chops, though you should have hired a tripod for the camera.

  • wows what a great sound

  • Why do most bass players practice chops and sounds that no one would ever use in a modern record?

Check out Rob Pope and learn what you should be practicing.

  • @copeland45 Rob Pope sounds like he has a sheeps vibrato, and as for chops you should be practicing? That depends on the type of music you are playing and writing. Todays modern music is pure crap.

  • @diamonddust22 I'm talking about Rob Pope, the bassist for the band Spoon genius. Of course you didn't know that, since all modern music is "crap" right?

  • @copeland45 we practice chops like that because WE CAN... :)

  • what amp and pedals are you using?

  • How much was this may I ask? :)

  • did you change the pickups?

  • @keith1r Sounds like he did...it has a bit more punch then I was expecting from a 60s Jazz.

  • I bought one of these basses about 8 years or so ago and had to return it do to the fact the neck was so badely bowed and twisted that it was beyond repair,Fender HQ.sent me a refund because they had a 9 month back order wait due to the number of recals they were getting from this bass,I know this to be true for I was working for a lic. dealer and did some apprenticing with a lic Fender repairman,This bass looks great w/out the p/gaurd

  • iv got the same bass in olympic white but i cant get it to sound like that ;( it sounds rich and woody like a p bass , how do i get that tone ???

  • i bought the same bass in white with a maroon pick guard

  • fender made in mexico definitely

  • what is better a fender jazz bass made in mexico or one made in japan???

    please answer me!!!!!!

  • @vountourisjunior Japan definitely

  • @vountourisjunior Japan !!!

  • what riff is that? from what song

  • How many Jazz bass players find that damn neck pick-up volume knob gets in the way, especially on picked downstrokes? Can't remember how times I looked down and the volume control was knocked half way down from hitting the knob on a gig...I will always be a P-bass player for that reason even though I've own over a dozen JB's including a '62 and two '66's in my time....

  • @jbass62 I own one but downpicking is no problem for me.

  • @jbass62 you should pck with your wrist not forearm. if you pick with the forarm you get mucle deformity :D yey for guitar

  • I love , this sound

  • I heard the Forget Me Nots at the end! Yeah, you gots skills....

  • ey donde lo adquiriste!!

  • This is The Sound :D I Love it!

  • Clean sounding and played as it should be...Thanks for some refreshing walking!

  • @ 2:01 sounds like marcus miller

  • @PennybagDarrell

That's cause its one of his riffs ;)

  • gonna get me one of these sooner or later ><

  • You're the first person I've seen on YouTube play a walking bass line on a Jazz bass! Thank you sir! =D

  • Very good job my friend! :) I love this sound.

    Sanyi from Debrecen, Hungary.

  • Awesome :D Fender sound is best for me :) Also good playing :)

  • just got that bass a couple of months ago...its amazing.

  • Nice bass. Awful camera work. Ugggh!

  • @LesliesDemos They were too excited about the amazing bass.

  • no discription needed man ps you dont need a drummer just get a guy to snap his fingers lol

  • thanks for uploading. You've given me some good ideas to work with, you're very talented.

The camera man, however..... BLOWS. No idea which action to focus on.

  • urgh.

  • tabs on the first part?

  • those are new strings, for shure

wait 'till they get dirty and the bright sound loses a little

  • what strings you using ????

  • That was cool.

  • very nice sound!

  • Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome

  • wow! for an MIM it sounds way good! :O Are these the original pickups?

  • how muhc is a american sun burst fender jazz bass

  • what kind of strings? sounds great!!!

  • COOL

  • That is some darn nice playing, man! The bass and amp sound great.

I've only played the Road Worn Precision and it is a great playing instrument. I'm afraid to try out the RW 60s Jazz because I'll probably end up wanting one badly. If it weren't for the cost, I'd probably have one by now. ;)

  • Great.

  • Hold still that camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What bass strings do u use?

  • hahaha that's the most awesome kind of riddle i wanted to play on my bass but i really dont know how tabs?

  • sweet

  • encore man!!! encore!!!

  • Adam Clayton used this guitar in the elevation tour!

  • that sounds like the song from blues clues

  • @deadline27 hahahah blues clues

  • Great tone. My bass could mimic the Fender Jazz tone but my amplifier sucks. Nice GB head and cab you got there.

  • just bought this baby today! It's awesome! (but made in America)

  • definitely a good listen!!! i love the creativeness in the improvs you're doing. Beautiful bass as well. Can't go wrong with the sunburst!

  • A nice bass and a well seasoned player = goodness.

  • Excellent playing, and a wonderful demonstration of the capabilities of a good bassist with this in his hands.

By the way, that walking bass line in the beginning was one of the better ones that I've heard as far as electric basses go.

  • what is the difference between this and a squier jazz bass

  • @mk4sg4eva squier is a low label price but gets a good sound anyways. the differences is that squier is cheaper

  • @mk4sg4eva no the differnece is that squier has cheapier electronics, components, fret buzz, gets out of tune

you get what you pay for, jameslekardal is acting like if he works at guitarcenter or any music store

  • @mk4sg4eva

get the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz bass, they are great. The difference is:

    -quality

-hardware (better bridge, electronics, and neck on the more expensive basses)

    -overall crafting

-place of origin, it goes like this -squier-fender made in mexico-fender crafted in japan-fender made in america

  • forget the bass GREAT PLAYING !! this guy would make a spade sound great believe me

  • How can you not love that sound?

  • it looks like brian marshall's bass

    i hope i've got one

  • wat are u playin here its sweet

  • i recognize 2 tunes

jaco's teen town and the chicken

    sweet!

  • Hmm... don´t regonize either of them. But he plays "Send me foget me nots" at 2:16

  • Всё таки жазз бас рулит!

  • Nice! I've got a 75 jazz with the Badass II running through a Genz Benz ML200. Great bass & amp!

  • just on youtube, it blows my squier out of the water, love to hear or play one in person.

  • good !

  • That was outstanding!

  • Great bass nicely played, awesome demo!

  • I Have The 'Olympic White' Version of this. Great bass guitar. I would say it does have a better feel than the standard MIM jazz bass's.

  • Just bought one of these on eBay. Sunburst 60s reissue like this one. It has a Leo Quan Badass bridge which I guess is an upgrade, but I prefer the look of the stock bridge. I doubt the Badass makes much difference in sustain so I'll probably go back to stock.

  • The Badass has a big inflluence on sound, but i think sustain is not the main reason for putting it on the bass. The main thing is a more modern sound with more deep frequencies.

  • Not to be a contrarian, but I don't see why it would enhance the bass frequencies. You might say because it's more massive, but the mass of the bridge is trivial compared to the mass of the body. As long as it's tightly coupled to the body its own mass doesn't matter much. The stock Fender bridge does exactly what it needs to do -- and no more -- with the minimum of expense and material. In other words, it is elegant. The Badass seems like gratuitous overkill in comparison.

  • I'm completely your opinion, i don't like the badass bridge at all, but just experience showed me, that it modifies the sound this way, maybe it's the mass, maybe just the shape, maybe it's magic. But i like the stock bridge for what it does, so of course you're right! :-)

  • Well, I replaced the Badass with a stock bridge yesterday. No change in the tone as far as I can tell. If it's there, it's subtle. I definitely prefer the vintage look of the stock bridge though.

  • Comment removed

  • okay, seems to be an indefinable luck, when it changes the sound, i saw many basses changing there character with this bridge... but i also prefer the look and the sound of the stock bridge ^^

  • i have used a badassII, heard no difference with the stock bridge

  • okay, maybe it depends on the instrument, if there are hearable differences or not... I don't know, I heard them very clearly, but that does not mean, that every instrument does react on a replacement bridge in the same way...

  • bravo!

  • Fender makes the best bass guitars.

  • @jimihendrixfan2008

They should make the best bass guitars, they invented them!

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 you think so ? so let's check fodera basses :/ noob

  • Comment removed

  • @jonikq Yeah I know so. How the fuck am I a noob?

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 Yeah, you are

  • Comment removed

  • @jonikq Please explain how.

  • JassBass = Versatility.....!!!! Nice bass!!!

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 not even close

  • @jedimind24 Then you don't know anything about bass guitars. Almost every band you see from classic rock and modern rock, the bass player usually is playing a Fender.

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 maybe jadimind24 likes heavy metal, and metal bands usually or many use Ibanez. but i agree with you, Fender does make the best bass guitars.

  • wow....very beautiful song....(i'm italian)

  • Wow thats fuckin awesome! Im getting jealous! Nice licks aswell!

  • i bought it yesterday!!! exactly the same model/colour!!

    fender jazz rules the world!

  • I own a P bass, and my next investment is definatly going to be a jazz bass, but i don't know if i want it fretless or not.

  • it depends on how good you are if you should get fretless or not cuz fretless is harder to play but if you are really good go for it and get a fretless bass.

  • I'm also thinking about going in between and taking the frets off of a fretted bass myself

  • Just bought one of those today :D Im so happy, it sings like a bird ;) Power to the music.

  • woee!!

    can you teach me?

  • Thanks for the answers guys RE the right hand position.

Another question -- are there any sounds that absolutely can't be gotten with a J-bass that you can get with a P-bass? I keep reading that P's are fatter and fuller, but it seems like a J should be able to cop a decent P sound if you EQ it right.

On the other hand, it's impossible to make a Strat sound like a Les Paul and vice versa. Maybe it's the same with bass.

  • Nice playing! My dad used a '62 with the stack-knobs. We still have it and will never part with it, but the more I read and hear, these are amazing instruments.

  • Too cool. I foolishly passed up one of these on eBay the other day. Mint condition, perfect sunburst, $350 buy it now. But I hesitated and someone else got it.

What is the consensus on the stock Mexican pickups? Are they keepers as-is?

Also, what is the preferred pickup to anchor your hand on? I'm a guitar player whose getting ready to take the plunge into bass. I see some people use the front pickup and others the back. Which is better and why?

  • Some of the mexican pickups are great (as seen in this video) but some sound pretty awful. Just get one and see what you think of them.

If you pluck closer to the bridge you gett a more trebly tone, whereas if you play right up near the neck you get a more bassy and warm tone.

    Hope this response helps.

PS I wish fenders were as cheap in AUS as they are in USA :(

  • your in AUS? ever heard of a rock group called Hillsong United?

  • if you anchor your thumb on the bridge pickup it'll have a more treble-y tone that cuts through better, if you put it on the neck pickup it'll have a more muddy bassy tone. when i use fingers i like to rest my thumb on the neck, but that's just meh.

  • @1Doz it depends on your style of play and the sound you want. the back pickup gives you a more punchy sound, while the front pickup gives you a warmer, fuller sound.

  • im planning on buying a new bass from the internet but am finding it hard to decide between this, a 70s jazz or a fender jaguar bass, any1 got any suggestions?:P thanks

  • i like the 70s jazz a lot better than any of those three you listed...but thats just me...and i know this is a lame excuise but i just dont like how the jaguar looks....

  • I would suggest the jaguar. Very versatile, looks cool and sounds great. The only thing stopping me buying one is (apart from the cost of fenders in AU) the finish on the neck, to glossy and sticky for me. I say play before buy if possible.

  • Genz Benz amps r amazing im saving up money to buy one.

  • mmm mmmm mmm... sweet!

  • Nice chops and great tone - Im loving it!

  • sound very nice!!

Why is there so much price difference between USA ??? MEXICO???

  • I think this is the best feeling jazz bass for the cheapest price. 7.25 neck radius mmmmmm

  • @drubicle still too expensive in my opinion ... it's a Fender Jazz Bass COPY made by/for Fender!!

  • Very good sound and playing. I love Jazz basses. I've tried many Precision basses and I just can't get along with them, to me they feel uncomfortable and the Jazz bass feels/sounds just right. I'm mainly a guitarist that plays classic rock, just now starting into bass as a secondary instrument to play at jams/gigs. I absolutely love the tone of this J-bass.

  • OMG the sounds is phenominal!

  • i love this ass :Q let' slap!!!! XP

  • WHAT AMP ARE YOU USING ?

    It sounds amazing :o

  • that was some juicy playing!!

  • nice...if you like fender basses...check out my Fender Jazz bass: Victor Bailey Custom model on my page...cheers.

  • those necks are incredible. 7.25 radius! I want one of those so badly

  • what are u playing thru dude? sounds great! i love ur groove!~

  • My ears said that that bass sounds KILLER!!! Regardless of the dumb comments. Kudos also to the excellent bassist! Amps make a big difference too. My problem with japanese basses id the cheap hardware that doesn't stay in tune, etc. Many sound great. I have a

exican p-bass that is awesome. I couldn't find a USA p-bass that sounded better on the rack at GC, so I bought it. It stays in tune forever too. Guitars are hand crafted and each one is different. Play it before you buy it.

  • ps: a jap MM4 signature sounds weak, 5 string version is 10000-1000000% better across all 5 strings, especially from E to G.... in other words a 5 string sounds better than a 4 string when played from B to G and especially from E to G. Think about it;) ............

  • ive been playing for 15 years and look at alot of bass videos and your definetly one of the best ive seen on you tube....

  • sweet playing man! i've been thinking about getting a jazz bass. I'm hooked on my G&L Tribute right and my fender precision special. I may have to give in and add to the collection!

  • using arguments such as "personal preference" or " opinion" is wrong, objectivity is the best way to go by, not subjectivity, J/J Bass guitars sound crap, especially when made in mexico or japan, USA models are the Best, and whats worst of all for the J/J, the USA Made Fender P/J is 100% better than J/J of similar type.

  • I respect your opinion, but I think is not true about the Japan basses.

Ged Lee basses are incredible! Marcus Miller is amazing.Must listen.

    Regards

  • I agree with you that Americans are the best and that is a fact because it can be proved that the quality is better.

But the only "fact" in this is that J/J sounds diffrent from P/J, not which one that sounds best. If it was a fact, everyone would use a P/J.

  • go the P/J tone, totally kills the J/J tone! this is not an opinion , its a fact. To use an "opinion" as an excuse is weak and primitive!

  • Lol, in your eyes it's a fact - but ask Jaco and you'll hear diffrent. Ask me too and I say J/J, ask Marcus Miller and he says J/J but if you ask Tony Franklin he says P/J - remember that it is opinions. Because who says it's a fact? Someone does but someone will always say diffrent.

  • Nice sound

  • okay i respect the J/J Bass guitars, the Precision Bass with just one pickup the good old split P sounds better than JAZZ Bass.

  • thats ur opinion

  • In your opinion, yes.

    I say J/J for life.

  • i love it

  • Does this bass stay in tune well?

  • is this colour antique burst or red sunburst?

  • Just bought one of these new with the delux gig bag for 420. I love this bass

  • where did you buy it? im looking for one!

  • Man that sounds better than some Js costing 3 times the money !!

  • Can someone tell me what the main difference is in fender 60's and the standard ones. Are 60's bigger in any way, or is it just the materials used to make it really?

  • The 60s has the pick-up closer to the bridge if I recall correctly and the new american standard (so not the mexican standard) has 30% lighter tuning keys which makes it more balanced, it has other details too. If you buy a real 60s jazz bass, it can't sound better but a reissue is not as good as a real 60s and I bought a new AM STD instead.

  • Hi dude, whats is your amplifier, sound really good!

  • Same bass but I'm farrrrrrrrr from playing like this

  • 2:02 to 2:13 sounds like marcus miller!

  • lol ye a lot xD

  • wow love the sound at 1:05 is it really from the "60 or just a replica?

  • man great sound... what amp did you use?

  • 60s? sounds excellent man

  • This is my dream bass. Nice playing, awesome guitar.

  • Are these flatwound or roundwound strings?

  • Rounds. You can really hear that grindy crackly Jazz tone in that first clip, as well as all that prominent string noise.

  • I would get it, but i dont really have $2000 :(

  • i costs about 700-800$ not 2000!lol
