  • Sounds like a rip off of Spice Mon..

  • 2:50-2:58 That is corps-level writing and corps-level execution, certainly by the snares. Whoever heads/headed this program when this was filmed is/was worth their check. Nice job...

  • I would love to be a part of this, amazing! I live in Australia so no cool things like band

  • awesome!!!

  • BEST DRUMLINE IN THE NATION!

And yeah it was totally sampled for Lose My Breath!! Check the Wiki. I would link it, but its not letting me.

  • the first measure was looped and sampled for lose my breathe.

  • sounds like destiny's child loose my breathe

  • that tap was badass

  • GO BLUE!!!!!

  • coping off of drum line the movie

  • @Ambrielleish what is???

  • Everyone here should Youtube search "MSU drumline at U of M" and watch "Reich" and "Ditty"

Awesome little pieces. This is my favorite college line.

  • This is awesome.

  • Good except the backsticks. Those are pretty weak

  • Is it my imagination, or is the photography in this video completely stinkin' lousy? Nice musicianship though. Too bad it didn't get a good representation.

  • Does anyone have the sheet music?

  • clean as hell!

  • The people with the cymbals make me laugh. lol

  • Its something about the drums. Its awesome. Nice job guys!

  • basses are the low frquency cymbals and snares high and tenors (the best) have all of them

  • basses are the ones that give dru, line an extra BAM!!

Thank you very much coming from a bass player myself♥

  • extremely sloppy....

  • is wadsworth ohio, the bass line of the high school drumline is probbaly the most important line of all in our marching band. we get more respect then the snare or tenor line

  • why does this look like it was recorded in the 50's lol

  • soaper4 they dont march while the play the cadence

  • There is some pretty nasty lag.

  • i only like this school because they started it all. this is the first college marching band the united states has ever seen at a football game. and they gave the greatest marching bands after them. the HBCU marching bands. more specifically they gave us Florida A&M Universty marching 100

  • hahaha this is good, i think i heard electric wheelchair in there? i don't like some of the visuals, but the playing was really clean, good work!

  • At 2:32 how would the cymbals do that visual while marching?

  • @cympimpin20 We could easily do this clean, I have no doubt. That's not to say that we're better than them, I'm just pointing out that my high school drumline could play this.

  • @hnsnare sure! you bet! In your dreams maybe.

  • Pretty good sounding line. But did they really have to be THAT white about some of those visuals?????

  • They aren't bad, but this is something my high school drumline could probably do

  • @hnsnare Yeah, but can your high drumline do it without sounding like rocks in a dryer?

  • Too white..too tight. Jackson State would "drum" them off the field.

  • @aznboycols I went to an hbcu (Alabama State), you can't compare the two. For U of M, this is good.

  • @auburntiger8 dont you know this is where our hbcu bands came from back when they all started over what 50 years ago

  • @aznboycols It's called composure, and they're not that kind of drumline.

  • @aznboycols not really, jackson state needs to learn to use dynamics and tune there drums

  • Impressive to this 36-year Masters of Music veteran, especially considering these kids are at a school with serious academic demands. Made my day. Thanks to whoever posted this!

  • not impressed with the tenors/quads or the basses nothing impressive at all.

  • They use Sabian! Yeah!!

  • look up EMU Series, they have a good series also. I am not saying either school is better, they are both great!

  • So DarkChild and DC stole and or got permission to use that cadence or did the Michigan management use something they heard from DC Lose my Breathe radio hit?

  • @DBDP3 "Taps and Roll Off" pre dates the Destiny's child tune. This video was recorded in 2002. I was actually in the line in 2004 when Destiny's Child released the song. They sampled us (to this day I don't know if they had the composer's permission or not).

  • Lose my Breath. nice

  • electric wheelchair??? 4:29

  • basses, step it up...

  • tenors are so beast i love them

  • Shit! Chops all around the battery.

  • copycats.

  • Did I hear a little Electric Wheelchair in there at the end?

  • @bumba220

You did! It's pretty discreet though isn't it?

  • Wow. Snares are piss clean.

  • i wish i could hear more bass splitting:(

  • Destiny's Child sampled the opening portion of this cadence in "Lose My Breath". I guess that proves how cool Michigan is....GO BLUE!!!

  • So, I take it that they don't teach grammar at any of those two schools right? Michigan State who? West who? Whatever.... Go Blue!!

  • to thebestcc12:

I'm an ohio state fan as well. I have been since i started caring about the sport of football, so basically all my life. my entire family bleeds scarlet and grey.

However, you cannot try to even compare Ohio State's drumline to Michigans. It's the only thing I'll admit to as far as the whole Scarlet vs. Azure rivalry goes.

Tradition is nice, but in the 21st century, I'm pretty sure style is nicer. Michigan's line has plenty of it. PLENTY!

  • Technically precise, but these schools lack the swagger and braggadocio of the black universities.

  • @JDX28 i was thinking the same thing. yeah it sounds good but for god sakes dont just stand there.

  • @JDX28 i'd rather have talent and let drumming talk for me then to hoot and holler and dance and pretend i do

  • @thebestcc12 I agree but I will admit this is pretty intense.

  • Why must this always be an issue. I'm a Michigan fan. I have respect for OSU. Cut the shit already.

  • I wanna play for UM!!!

  • anybody have the sheetmusic?....willing to trade for other cadences.

  • if you want music to the first one called lose my breath our line plays it il ask the section leader if we cn give it to u

  • wat type of mallet/stick are the tenors using

  • @4:30 sounds like Legend of the One Eyed Sailor

  • Yeah, it does.

  • Destiny Child made their song Can You Keep Up off of this intro

  • its called Lose My Breath

  • I'm pretty sure it's not called lose my breath. That was the song Beyonce stole this cadence for. There was a lawsuit about it a while back. But this was definitely written before that song came out. Unless they've changed it since then, but I highly doubt they have.

  • Isn't it Niner Noise?

  • that tap off is soooo hot

  • 1:00 visual--revenge of the nerds reference.

  • Basses get no respect.

  • Basses are sick idc what any1 says....i play snare and fourth bass atm ^_^

  • Bass 2 ftw!

  • @MeTube673 Exactly

  • @MeTube673 amen bases what make it happen

  • @MeTube673 fuck ya man, im on the bass line at my highschool and all people talk about is snare and tenor

  • hahaha 1:00 UofM fail. If you want to see a good drumline head over to Lansing.

  • Dissing others to make yourself look good isn't a good habit to get into.

  • To steelerdave2000 LOL Bro r u for real, UofM is a TRUE marching ban, not 1 of those bands that stand in 1 place and bump and grind while playing, UofM can play their drumlines while in full march and stay in formation now THAT's a marching band. And also do you know that just one of the things they do to stay in shape is to run up and down the stands in UofM stadium for almost an hour, let the southern U's try that!!!!!

  • Electric Wheelchair excerpt at 4:28?

  • You have to be ELITE to get into this line.

  • best drumline ever. GO BLUE!

  • i live so close 2 the U of M's feild i can hear them play :D

  • the video isn't perfect but the sounds are there.

  • M.S.U'S DRUM LINE WOULD KILL THIS

  • would kill it because this is good and MSU's is horrible?

Yeah your def right about that...

    GO BLUE!

  • @GOBLUE97 i actually just saw an msu drumline video they are a lil better

  • 0:13 that looks like Noel Alvarez from Santa Clara Vanguard

  • no he doesn't. and noel alvarez never marched scv.

  • oh,sorry!

  • more like boston crusaders buddy

  • Really good, the Tenors just need to be cleaned up a tiny bit

  • Can I get the music for this somewhere for free?

  • snares are smokin, man

  • Yeah, that year the snares were exceptional. I had the pleasure of playing on the snare line in 2004 (my only season), which was also one of the worst drumlines in Michigan history! I like to think it was all because of me.

  • i like how the play but how the ppl move suck ass

  • Nice syncopation in many measures of your cadence, but tenors need some cleaning, please!

  • This cadence was written 10 years ago by a man who is now working with a high school drumline. He was a member of the U of M drumline

  • i know how to play that

  • nice buzz rolls!!

  • Dude, first go and check the internet about Legend of the One Eyed Sailor.

this number was written in 1987..

So wheelchair is a copy off it ;).

So at the end, i am allways right again.

  • I always liked the way this solo is written, though it was a different arrangement that I heard. Nice visuals in this one.

  • street beat! thers is so sick

  • is that the one of the RCC chicks in the snare line?

  • No she played for Rhythm X and Bluecoats. Anyone know what's she's doing now. Is she teaching?

  • Ah. that's what I meant to say. Rhythm X

  • Nice ripoff of SCV Electric Wheelchair at 4:28...

  • Actualy its from: Legend Of The One Eyed Sailor

  • No, Its SCV's electric wheelchair. Murray might have taken that beat from whatever bs ur talking about when he wrote electric wheelchair, but that beat is most definitley Electric Wheelchair

  • Its not exactly electric wheelchair but it is extremely similar. Id have noticed it immediately but there's some apparent difference.

  • woooooooooooooooo!!!

  • academiclly, how hard is it to get accepted into michegan state, cause i wanted to go there lol

  • With that spelling, I can see why you weren't accepted...

  • yes, because typing a comment on youtube is part of the requirements to get accepted

anyways im only 16, i havent even applied yet

  • Why not?! You're supposed to apply when you're 14... =/

  • zzzzzzzzz

  • This intro is used by Destiny's Child on the "Lose My Breath" record.

  • Snare/bass duet at 4:20 is BA

  • wolverine on the bass @ 19

  • My Band Director put together a Marching Band exhibition this year. And he asked Mr. Scott Boerma (director of Marching Bands at UofM) and the band to come and be a guest at our show. They came, and it was amazing! I was on the front sideline when they performed and they did it all. Then of course I had to scramble as they came off the field. Right at our band.

Fun fact: My father was high school buddy's with Scott Boerma. My mother went to a camp where Boerma did his first conducting ever.

  • I love this drumline, every time michigan plays osu, michigan comes to my high school and does a concert.

my sophmore year, erin reigalman (i think shes the third snare to the right when they did the side shots of the snares in the beginning) came and worked with our drumline

  • lol its lose my breath at least the beginning

  • you mean lose my breath is this. destinys child sampled this

  • Klasse..ich steh volle Pulle druff...genial

  • Dude, check out "Temptation" and "Hawaiian War Chant."

  • I like them all, but did not see the hip hop because I do not like this music.

  • The best drumline near me is U of I

  • where can i get that music

  • wow! Every band in the big ten is so much better than anyone else. Heck im an Ohio State fan and this is hard core.

  • yea, but overall in music education they are not the best, but they do hav the bands, but the usc band is pretty good to

  • Are those shortie tenors for indoor? Tight group.

  • QUADS or Tenors Rock what ever I call them tenors

  • State is way better

  • hell yeah thats what im talking about

  • 5/5 for playing the destiny's child beat

  • they've been playing that cadence years before beyonce even had pubes.

  • I'm glad she has pubes now :p

  • tenors wtf r u talkin bout

  • i got this on my computer

  • oh my god... these guys are incredible... they're all perfectly in sync... and they're tenors are extremely crazy... plus they're choreography is extremely difficult.

  • the hell?

  • i would just fuck it up and start banging random crap hahaa

  • That's highly impossible.

  • what? why?

  • that "bird" vish was lame, but other than that, hard core

  • CAN YOU KEEP UP...

BABY BOYYY MAKE ME LOSE MY BREATH...

    BABY BOYYY!!

    xD

  • 1:04 lol wtf are they doing?! XDD

  • Earning showmanship points for complicated maneuvers.

  • ahhh

our school has yamahas, no matter how good you play them, they have no definition

  • that was awesome! i hope we sound that good when i go to college next year

  • "Can u keep up Baby boy.Make me lose my Breath........" this is HOT!!!

  • destiny child stole it from michigan state that just sampled it

  • Ronney Jerkins Stoled it , not destinys child

he was the producer of the song

  • michigan state?

    U of M

  • somebody, please tell me the name of the football team Michigan Univ..

  • wolverines

  • is it me or do all the drummers sticks look uncomfortable for them to hold?

  • It's you =D

  • and btw that countoff is so awesome

  • so which came first this cadence or the destinys child song?

  • the cadence

  • the cadence was around much before.

  • The Cadence.

  • I always wondered where destiny's child stole the first part of dat cadence from. lol!
