" Black people can only play that way?" You ever hear of Stevie Ray Vaughan? Why does everything always come down to race? Human beings are human beings and anyone can learn do anything? You want to know when all the racial descrimination and prejudice will go away? When everyone stops harping race and stops looking at people as the "black " this, or the "white" that, etc.... Further, its a two way street. Whn will it stop being OK to dis non-minorities while its still hell to dis minorities?
Not the worst version I can recall. I think I have played this tune with about two dozen different sets of pickers and this rates about in the middle. Seems everyone can play but the first note of the theme must be the lowest note possible that the bassist can play in the key that is being sung. Or tune to it . (anybody with a five string b disregard)
why is jimi hendrix mentioned in the title as if he had something to do with this song? i'm aware of the fact that buddy miles played in the band of gypsy's, but i'm pretty sure he didn't have anything to do with this song and/or album. maybe i'm mistaken?
This is pretty damned good. I'd like to hear the bass doing the V VI (B C#) gospel feel in the verses but it sounds great, and it's a very good capture of the song's essence.
@ledviades I am sorry, that's the most racist thing I have seen today...and I have been monitoring the tea party since I woke up. Music is color blind. If you think my Strat and my Twin have any clue who my ancestors were, you are on more acid than Jimi was. The failure to "feel" a musical style is nothing more than a failure of LISTENING EXPERIENCE. Robert Cray is way less soulful than Keith Richards, for example, and Keef is an Englishman.
I so diagree with you even though I see you point. Culture is a hell of a thing. Musically it often dictates and impregnates you with a feel and spirit that is undeniable. I have been on stage and performed with Billy Preston, Marvin Gaye, James Brown and Luther Vandross. I have also been able to work with Grand Funk Railroad, Billy Joel and elton John. . That is extremely noticable when they asre coveryinmg each others work. Not racism - just realism!
Have a look under your scratch plate see if you got a huge hole drilled out for no reason my california jazz bass has .I was gutted when I saw it I hate modern fenders now, mass produced crap.
the bass and drums play during the intro ya know
