  • The one right thing about squats is go low. Leave ur ego at the door and use a weight that pushes u but allows u to keep ur back very str8.

    True, these are not box squats as taught by westside. Darin would have been better served to call these gauged parallel squats, because that's all he's using the "box" for, as a gauge telling him how low to go.

    His form and load looks fine, the feet are a bit too close for me though.

    I mean look at Darin, his glutes, quads, and hams look very well balanced and better than probably 90% of you guys.

The point is that people don't understand the reasoning behind doing box squats because this guy damn sure isn't showing it. It's eliminating elastic recoil at the weakest part of the lift thus recruiting more muscle groups under tension. Other wise what use is it to touch a fucking box. Don't talk shit if you don't know shit. I do this every day bro/girl.

  • I thought the first few 'warm up' reps were more like a proper box squat. It seemed like he was using the box just as a marker for his bottom position when doing the rest of the reps. I thought the idea with a box squat was to sit on the box completely, to relax the legs (sort of) and then explode out from a static position? Like the did at the start...

  • That is DEFINATELY NOT a box squat. Go check out West Side Barbell or EliteFTS to learn how to properly execute a REAL box squat.

  • @muzimuzi remember a bench is just the weight of the bar and plates, where as a squat you also are lifting most of yor bdy weight in addition to the weights. also r u comparing reps or maxs.

  • that was very professional thank you alot, do you think that the weights that you have used is enough for any person, i dont think i would like to squat more than what you have used either. even though i have the potential to do alot more. i worry about knee injury and spine injuries that can occur. also just bulking up too much isnt a nice look thanks again :)

  • That little jiggle/bounce he does at the top is probably to prevent locking knees at top or habit.. it doesn't matter because the benefit of the exercise isn't at when his legs are extended anyways.

  • Not sitting back far enough for a proper box squat (of which the goal is posterior chain recruitment, not marking depth). Also 225 is heavy? Dude looks like he weighs over 200. Heavy would be 405+ for 10.

    The gym i'm at has the usual guys that go heavy but dont go low enough for an efficent work out...using a box eally emphasises the depth required.

    Another great thing i spotted in the video was the fact that your knee doesnt progress further than your toes. Excellent to prevent injuries of the knee.

  • My GF loves to do sofa squats when i'm sitting low on the sofa, watching tv. It is doing wonders for her entire lower body!

    you really must not injure your knees

  • now as a powerlifter. I feel as a box squat is not good for you. the reason i say that is you already have the weight on your back and when you squat and touch the Box your putting more pressure now on your lower back. if i am wrong please tell me.

  • The box, I'm assuming, is to judge how far you are going down and to make sure you are going down far enough. Think of touching the box as doing 100% of the motion. Going down half way is 50% and half as effective and you are contracting your muscles 50% less. Contracting 100% is more effective.
