  • horizonal splitters are man killers....weekend machine

  • @13lael

    Yes lifting an oversized log is a killer-but so is bending over while lifting as one does while using a Vert splitter. This machine is at a great high to lock your back as you lift. If you have big logs cut them shorter..saves the back

    Also the split peices run right off the end on this machine Not at your feet as happens when using a vert machine in the horz position

  • I bough these plans a few weeks ago, the build is almost done. Looks pretty good so far, I agree with MrLeonards comment, it could also use a log lift and with the 16 gpm pump you could run another valve in series and make one, there is plenty of power.

    Glad you like the plans.

    My old shop teacher said it best K.I.S Keep it simple

    Keeping things simple = very few problems (-;

    But sure anything can be done.

  • Put a 4 way splitter blade on it.

  • @MrLeonard55

    The trouble with a 4way wedge is that it puts a tremendous amout of pressure on the beam when trying to go thru knots and twisted grain. It can be done but one has to use common sense or you will end up with severe damage to your machine. When making the plans I decided it was better to play it safe and not include a 4 way. This machine is pretty fast as is.
