Came across five guys in Vermont on my AT Thru-hike in 2007. They were sobering up in a gap about a mile down from a cabin they got trashed the night before, and had continued through the day. So we get up to the cabin and their buddy was totally passed out on the deck with a bottle of whiskey in his arms. We literally had to step over him to get in. The place reeked! We ended up staying in a different shelter that wasn't too far away. God I miss the trail!

Ive hiked part of the trail TN/NC and its get so f**king cold, like 30 degrees lower than you would think. If you go in the spring and its like 70 at the base of the mountain than it will be like 0 degrees at night.
