This song isn't just a madrigal. It is a very satirical song which is reflected in their performance. I thought it was great. If you don't undertstand any French look for the King's Singers rendition which has a brief explanation of the meaning of the song.

I don't know why so many people seem to hate this rendition!!! The way they scoop the notes is beautiful!!! It gives the piece a wonderful artistic flair. Besides, it's supposed to be a fun song! Looking at other videos of this song I get sick of seeing a bunch of somber-faced choirs singing about chickens and gossip and other fluffy stuff. Props to this group!!!

My french is not good enough to tell whether theirs is good or not, but their interpretation IS great. No, it's not exagreated, this piece is indeed a frivolous song full of double meanings. No it's not a madrigal about idealised love, it's all about sweet marital fucking and women's gossip. Well done.
