its about a woman who has a good and handsome husband that takes care of her and the chickens. and the little chicken says she's a flirt. that doesn't make much sense. but it's meant to be silly. lol
This song isn't just a madrigal. It is a very satirical song which is reflected in their performance. I thought it was great. If you don't undertstand any French look for the King's Singers rendition which has a brief explanation of the meaning of the song.
I don't know why so many people seem to hate this rendition!!! The way they scoop the notes is beautiful!!! It gives the piece a wonderful artistic flair. Besides, it's supposed to be a fun song! Looking at other videos of this song I get sick of seeing a bunch of somber-faced choirs singing about chickens and gossip and other fluffy stuff. Props to this group!!!
My french is not good enough to tell whether theirs is good or not, but their interpretation IS great. No, it's not exagreated, this piece is indeed a frivolous song full of double meanings. No it's not a madrigal about idealised love, it's all about sweet marital fucking and women's gossip. Well done.
Excellent prestation, dynamique, de jolies nuances et plein de jeu et tant pis s'il y a quelques glissandi malancontreux ... l'émotion musicale est au rendez vous et la fin est particulièrement bien maitrisée !
they have nice voices, and a fun interpretation. I just think their scoops aren't really appropriate to the style, I find it annoying. But else than that, really good.

I sang this at LGPE my sophomore year and loved it! This version is in a different key than what I sang though, so it threw me off a bit to hear it.

They're singing about tiny chickens so, naturally, you get some arm flapping action. 0:36

I'm sorry but I hear " il est bel et bon comière" and the intonation of the tenor is special at the "coMIEre", and the gestual is strange

Does the bass just not want to be touched at the end?
JohnnyCD23 2 years ago
@JohnnyCD23 The final is an important part of the interpretation: he is taller and staying up gives an original movement to the ensemble.

What is with all the scooping? It's a Renaissance madrigal, not a pop song. I can understand wanting to make it "your own", but my god. Ugh.

I LOVE THE SCOOPING!!!!! what are you talking about??? haha.
beatlemaniac487 2 years ago
The scooping sounds horrible in this piece, and it's completely inappropriate for the style. I like this group, but ugh, I hate that scooping! :p

I love that song, but I think it's too much show around and the French isn't that good...
The soprano hits the notes in a way that doesn't match with the era when this song was written.

Why do you say that? This IS supposed to be a satiric song.
wolverine2099 1 year ago
@tenor9216 I actually disagree with you on the scoop part, I think it works perfectly with the liveliness of the song.
