My ultimate Guilty Pleasure! I saw this flick as a kid and was convinced she was Queen of the World. For all of you who think that today's pop culture is abysmal...check it out. Maria makes Lady Gaga look like a schoolgirl playing "Dress-up." Dance artists - take heart. This dance (?) was choreographed by Lester Horton - the modern dance genius on the West Coast. We all gotta eat. And laugh.

Maria Montez was not well liked by the wardrobe and make-up people at Universal because she treated them like servants. She was from an affluent Spanish family. Her father had been the Spanish ambassador to France. Jennifer Holt, Tim's sisters and Jack's daughter, was a contract actress at Universal at that time and she said that Maria took her under her wing and they became good friends, and even double-dated.

She had nothing to do with Spain. A beautiful woman, the queen of Technicolour died exactely 60 years ago, Sptember 8 1951.
