  • Rochelle takes the microphone and Gareth records her. “Huge ditches have been dug in the shiny green grass, and facing each other are soldiers wearing their curiously authentic costumes. Now the battle begins and the soldiers rush towards each other as the guns fire. It really is like watching a movie, very impressive and realistic too.

  • i just got home from the civil war re enactment in jackson michigan i had a blast :)

  • i dug some of that earth work fortress cool ay!

  • i am a reenactor in the 14 south carolina and i reenact here and my group is on 0.23 0.26

  • Nice job ... well done ... I've just posted some footage from the 14- 15 August 2004 Hale farm (Ohio) reenactment.

  • your description tells people to attend next years event but you don't have any info on where it is or when it is?

the link to your web site provides no pertinent information either.

  • We produced these awhile ago. Just posted a link in our description for those interested in this particular re-enactment. Thank you for the feedback.

  • @suggett48116 im from Jackson and the enactment takes place in the city @sparks park or locally known as cascades park or cascades falls. there is a website for more information you can google it

  • where in michigan was this

  • Jackson

  • The 102nd United States colored troop civil war enactors marched across the sunny glade, the report of guns firing blanks, cannons boasting blasts of sound, actors with sabers outstretched at enemies, chaplains reading the script whilst leaning over cast members lying on the ground, but then the bugle fanfare distorted to meta-jazz squirms, players refused history, red vs. blue stood erect, failing to fake the capital of invisible bullets. They shouted their standpoint. The ego-infection spread.

  • My great great great great grand daddy fought in this war you shold have herd the stores my grandpa told me ah they wear great!

  • all I saw were yankees falling... my 5th texan brothers must have been there...

  • This was really good. Thank you so much for visiting my page or I probably never would have found this video. This is the kind of thing school kids should fieldtrip to. Here's hoping you won a slot in the Seven Wonders competition!

  • good video.

    bugler's really flat, though.

  • Is it just me, or does that entire thing lack the whole.....urgency of a real battle? Its just funny to see men comfortably reloading and firing at liesure...

    Still cool tho. very nice.

  • he sounds like will smith

  • My great great grandfather was in the 1st Michigan infantry (John Butler)

  • reenactor here cpl joel simmons 1st arkansas light artillery river's battery csa from arkansas the unit fought at elkhorn tavern at pea ridge chickamauga ringold gap and on

  • I reenact, too! I'm in the 1st Virginian brigade, under command of Lt. Gen. Thomas J. Jackson.

  • I'm with the 28th NY co. E and you guys are pretty good. I just signed up a month ago and I've only been in one battle, as a flag carrier. But it's really fun. Anyone who likes history should look into it and try to find a regiment. Oh, one question for veteran reenactors. How do you rise in the ranks( Prv. to Leu. and such)? Please respond.

  • In my unit out here in California there are three things. Participation--it doesn't do any good to promote someone and then have them hardly ever show up. There is an extensive written test that gets more difficult as you go. You have to know the tactics and the correct orders to move troops at the company level and higher. Then there is the election, held about every two years. If you're going to lead people, they have to be willing to be lead by you.

I'm content to be a private right now.

  • here in arkansas just show up pay your dues become a pvt i'm corprol in river's battry from arkansas 1st arkansas light artillery confederate state's. the 3rd confederate infantry flag was a hardee flag army of tennesse i saw the original flag on the state house musem of little rock picture on the internet. i think

  • Normally to rise in rank you actually have to know something about the rank you wish to hold. You must have extensive knowledge of commands and formations for example to be captain. For first sergeant you are the captain's favorite NCO and you must know what you are doing because you have an important role. Same thing for each rank...you don't just get promoted by being there you have to know what you are doing and doing it correctly and accurately

  • Also my unit has elections every year. I was nominated for corporal to have a chance at being elected. If you were to achieve this rank i would probably be placed as the lowest corporal since I do not have NCO experience. a corporal doesn't have to know much, but anything from I want to say first sergeant on has to know a shitload. Sorry 2,3,4...sergeants I don't know all you responsibilities as my unit doesn't have any of you...most sergeants are file closers though.

  • I reenact the civil war. my unit is 12th south carolina/ 4th michigan.

  • i think you know my unit from my name :D

  • if i'm not mistaken I think the 24th michigan was called the black hat boys.

  • that is correct

  • give them yanks hell!

  • pretty good video man, with a good point behind it

these reenacting units look pretty professional if you ask me. jolly good

  • Maybe professional sure as hell not accurate...

  • Give it to them Dixie.

  • awesome, makes you know what these troops went threw for us and die for us. thank you for showing this video

  • Needs more Yankees in this reenactment.

  • I am a civil war reenactor and I believe that it is very important to carry on this history, but this man making it out to be a war over him and his ancestors is ridiculous. Black soldiers did not "turn" the tide of the war, they came in so late, they were in few engagements. I am not racist, I simply do not like it when people try to make stuff into something that it isn't. How wrong he is to spread this ignorance of history to others.

  • I am briefly shown early on in the video at 46 seconds. I'm the young man standing on the confederate side holding the artillery's flag as the cavalry flag barrer rides past. I absolutely love this video nicely done threw out but I will allways hold that scene dear in my heart.

  • Thanks for being there! It was a real education shooting this video; and I hope lots of people will learn something from watching it.

  • I'm in this video giving last rites. About half way through.

    Rev. Mike Belair

    4th OVI

  • Thanks for sharing. Your scene really stands out. I tried to explain to my sons that there were actually men ministering to the dying. We thought about it for a moment and I don't think any of us can really comprehend what that must have been like.

  • never seen things like this you guys really get involved good work

    sanchez

  • Western events reenacting units fight better than the eastern ones for some reason. We don't just go out there and burn powder for an hour. We are very mobile on the field and actually use the tactics and get close during combat. It's much more fun than the eastern style and more realistic.

  • The federal and confederate battalions which fight at Jackson really showed how it was done at the 145th Gettysburg this year.

  • Hell yeah man!!!! :)

  • I'm in this video, in the middle, giving last rites to the wounded and dying.

  • Makes me appreiciate what what they went through back then.

  • nice

  • cool
