There is colonial marines coming out/ already out probably wait for someone to mod the f out of it so we can play AO again, from what I have seen of it looks like much upgraded marine only play of AO.

@Sardus99 Not sure what do you mean, AO itself is abandoned, but current owner of AvP franchise is Fox, so if there will ever happen some sort of remake, it will happen only with their permission because Fox likes to fuck with people over their "intellectual property" :(

I've been playing all type of online games since AO and I don't think there is anyone that comes close to team play and atmosphere. I luved the banter between marines and aliens

I miss this damn game so much! I used to be Hicks LWU, Lone Wolf Unit, Flag LWU was the leader.

Also I used to play as Alien (lol original... yea right) but for a time I was top alien. I remember the marines killing off all the aliens and it was just me as empress against 20/30/40 marines left to kill. I was able to kill em all off 1 by 1. LOVED winning matches that way

EA bought Mythic Entertainment long after aliens online shutdown. Mythic did some more games than Aliens Online

EA purchased gamestorm, not just paid them to be closed; EA wouldn't close AO servers if they would be profitable

EA paid bought out gamestorm because they were competition they didn't get the fox rights to AO so they couldnt use it. So the rights are SPLIT between several companies. I know this because we tried to get the source and EA didn't have it and FOX wouldn't release it so we couldn't mod the game or even get the files to host our own Ded servers.

This was so awesome, basically invented the concept of an MMO shooter/survival horror game. Still haven't seen anything quite like it to this day.

If this is version 1.11 that xmgx uploaded, than it seems that it doesn't work too great with windows XP. Unlike you, I have problems with my character moving, ducking, strafing. I also can't look up and down. Dunno.

If you can find version 2.12 of the game, it also has scare on it. Which seems to work better on XP, also new maps. Although ducking and looking up and down still don't seem to work. Also, as far as I know you can't play aliens in this scare.

God I loved this game play it hardcore way back when, I think its one of the best team play game IMO. I still have several Discs with gamestorm games on them and use to have the patch to play some of the maps solo

Sound is absent that's my fault. There are also few heavy gameplay glitches as for me (maybe something was broken for this years; game is for win98). Hope upcoming Colonial Marines will do the best and will have a good multiplayer.

how long was the game online before the severs were taken down, was there any patches released for the game, to take care of the glitches? thanks for the reply...

Wikipedia says that online servers worked March 31, 1998 till May 29, 2000. As for patches, I can't say anything because at the moment it's really hard even to get a copy of the game. I found it on AvP are of filefront, where are few instructions to switch game from online mode to offline.

I put the link to filefront in vid's description. You should modify on line in Main.dat (see comments on the filefron page). I found two glitches: marine is jumping/using ladders very awful; aleins gameplay don't work at all (neither marines can damage aliens, neither aliens can damage marines) :(

I played this game online it rocked one of the best team playing shooter games I have ever played
