  • haha...good enough for a knolly ole dr 650 :>)....it works!

  • @jimhikeat cheap and functional ... not much not to like!

  • You did a great job. My action packer is still going strong. Not a single problem for the entire 7500 miles I did over the summer.

  • @byersm66 The thing works great, and I don't know that I would have found it if I hadn't seen your vids. Thanks!

  • I cant wait to get mine

  • Next thing you know, you'll ditch the bike gloves and just use a pair of welding gloves to ride around in. And instead of sheep skin covers for the seat, a piece of old discarded 70s shag pile carpet - rock'n :)~ hahaaa.

Actually both gas and box set ups are good ideas!

  • @michaelrossonline I've since modified the box a bit further to be able to strap a duffel on top of it if need be. Time to start planning another trip!

  • @michaelrossonline

Hell ,yeah!!! That's a damned good idea... I'm going to Home Depot right now and getting my DR converted to rock'in-shag and swapping out my MX gloves for some nice cozy gauntlets!!!

  • Looks really great! Cheap and functional solution. But I wouldn't recommend taking food with you in it when also carrying fuel, the fumes escaping from the jerry can, can get in the food and make you really sick / poison you... (same goes for carrying food in a tank bag btw..)

  • @Sponge1310 Point taken about fuel and food in the same bin ... not a good combo!

  • Nice job and congratulations on now having a DR650 “Woody”. Years ago, when I had my 1400 Intruder I mounted some soft saddle bags. Not happy with the low position and overlapping strap, I mounted some quarter inch plywood using hose clamps and the frame. Then riveted the bags to each side panel. Looks like it could hold a 12-pack.

  • @Spacecoastz Over the years I have done many mods and fabrications that, had I the skills, would have been better in metal than wood. Oh well, whatever works! How about two 12-packs? I'll probably find out before too long! :)

  • You can put A LOT of beer in that thing! LOL. That's actually a really good idea, and some nice work you did there. You may want to get a patent on that ;)

  • @seekinsoul Haha! I actually thought about the beer thing. I guess there's no reason you couldn't do the same set up with a small cooler :)

  • @ericplloyd Haha! Yeah, I probably couldn't handle any more action than that thing can hold. :)

  • Very awesome! Have you rigged anything together for the 919? I want to figure out a cheap solution to carry luggage, when I don't want to use my soft tail bag.

  • @ToastToGo No, I never came up with anything cool for the 919. Just a tank bag, a back pack, and a duffle strapped to the seat.

  • Looks good to me!

  • @dbauernf Thanks. Yeah, it works great, and on the DR it doesn't look too bad!

  • That's pretty cool, I have never seen a gas can like that either. Good idea Duf!

  • @britex3186 The Kolpin containers are specifically made to be mounted on stuff, and they make a bunch of different sizes. Mine is 1 1/2 gal, and it was sheer luck that it fit inside the box so well!

  • Handy top case idea, had I not my motofizz, I would probably run with this rubbermaid set up...Thanks for posting a tutorial

  • @billmaa Thanks! The plastic box is gonna suit me fine for my short trips and local errand running, but you'll no doubt be a lot better off on this next trek with that hugely versatile Motofizz bag.

  • It looks perfect on the DR!

  • @dirtdadx Yeah, it actually kind of suits the bike! :)

  • Nice solution ya got there. I have a Stanley FatMax toolbox mounted on the luggage rack of my Kawasaki Vulcan 500. Poor-mans luggage bro.....nothing wrong with it.

  • @p0kerp1aya A tool box is a good idea too. I was thinking about that before I ran across this thing.

  • Awesome thinking DP. Looks great and on the cheap makes it that much better.

  • @Wilks89 Thanks. Yeah, it really doesn't look all that bad, and a price of $19 makes it look even better!

  • Very good idea. I think i'm gonna try to do this so that i can throw my backpack in it when i have to ride to school in the rain.

  • @heartlesspinto Sounds good. I haven't tested it in the rain yet, but it should be fine.

  • Sometimes the cheapest solutions are the best and it looks like you've come up with a winner. Great tip DP!

  • @MAG315 You've got that right! A plastic bin bolted to the rack suits me fine!
