My dad's opinion is that it's not a real dog if it can't catch food when you throw it to it. (My grandma's little dog either runs away if you toss food to her, or lets it bounce off her nose then eats it off the ground, whereas our dogs will snap it out of the air if it's tossed even remotely in their general direction.)
