Do these have any kind of forced induction? Seems like turbo charging would make sense, even at that size. Where can I find the numbers on a engine like this?
Engines are turbocharged by BBC. Size does not matter. There are much bigger ones. The number of the engine can normaly found at the frond of the engine. (Front-ship, turbo-side) We have 2 engines no: 3511 and no: 3512
i worked for a while on this kind of Engine. same model. and its still working. it was built in 1963 :) so much for reliability. I liked it. sure, its not easy to do maintenance at them. but still, you will get lots of experience....

do you have a river near that power station? I just wondering is it direct or indirect cooling.
I know this is a hospital, but on our ship we have MaK, its almost the same. Constant revolution at full throttle, 375 rpm.
bigcyz 1 year ago
@bigcyz The engines are cooled by a cooling tower. There is no river nearby.

Thank you for that. By "numbers" I was actually referring to statistics. I am sure I can search for them.

I sailed for 3 years on a ship with the same engine. Bore 410mm, Stroke 640mm, 4000 bhp. I sailed on a non-rev. 4 Engines, 2 shafts.

During the start there is an air leak and generates a spray of lub oil. I was saving my white shirt...

huugpiet 2 years ago
