you have to think about this logo too much, it isn't eye catching, and it doesnt really symbolise london in any way at all. the beijing logo had several meanings do do with chinas history, as well as the olympics and sport, and its eyecatching. yeah it's quite clever, but when youve seen it more than once, its not really clever anymore
This concept is much better than the "Puzzle Piece" concept (in my opinion). And I'll tell you why. 1) I like the way the artist integrated the "2012" in the London name. 2) The fonts have a flowing quality to them. 3) The Olympic rings are bolder and not as subdued. 4) It's not as "busy. Sometimes less is more. I give it 2 thumbs up. P.S. - I've done many logos myself, and I've noticed that the people who choose the final concepts have no eye for design, unless they happen to be artists.
Opinions on the official logo are really quite ignorant, as a designer there are many different aspects that people seem to completely disregard. Take the comparison which has been made in this video. Where is the actual identity of the 2012don logo? What can you do with it outside of the logo? The typeface, colours, and everything are just usual. People are annoyed at 1(!) execution of colours of the official.. It's only one. Take a look at today;s display of the logo, its bold and is noticed!
I'm not a designer, I'm the other side of the fence, the viewer. The designer of the 2012 logo was ignorant of the fact the viewer should not have to spend hours working out what the hell it is. It seems far too much thought went into this when really a logo has just got to be simple and eye-catching. Nothing more. It doesn't have to mean anything beyond that, the event itself takes care of that.
That's kinda arrogant, the fact is, the logo has to get it's meaning across at a glance, people don't generally stand there for 10 minutes analysing the thing.

What's "modern" about the official logo? It's an outdated and artificial graffiti tag. If it's some kind of misguided attempt by "Seb" Coe to connect with the "youf" ("London is spelled with a lowercase 'l'! I'm hip because I don't play by 'da roolz'!") it's a miserable failure.
I love the last one its soo awesome its loads better then the official logo. The last one with the "2012" combined in "London" I think that is a really good logo. I think they should have that one instead of the official one.

I agree. When I saw the official logo it honestly took me a while to see the 2012. I thought it was just some squareish lloking things all jumbled together. Atleast with the new one we know it is an olympic logo! We should start a worldwide petition to get it changed!

The people have the power to change the things, in general. I don't really know why the britains let publish this logo, it just means a Toy's logo or anything like this, i think which it is according to the design of the Olympic Stadium, for me it is a "Toy's Box". Englishwomen, at least, talk in the name of Robin Hood.

Heard London is scrapping the international leg of the Olympic torch relay. Can't really picture the London torch running through Muslim countries.

you have to think about this logo too much, it isn't eye catching, and it doesnt really symbolise london in any way at all. the beijing logo had several meanings do do with chinas history, as well as the olympics and sport, and its eyecatching. yeah it's quite clever, but when youve seen it more than once, its not really clever anymore

This concept is much better than the "Puzzle Piece" concept (in my opinion). And I'll tell you why. 1) I like the way the artist integrated the "2012" in the London name. 2) The fonts have a flowing quality to them. 3) The Olympic rings are bolder and not as subdued. 4) It's not as "busy. Sometimes less is more. I give it 2 thumbs up. P.S. - I've done many logos myself, and I've noticed that the people who choose the final concepts have no eye for design, unless they happen to be artists.

Opinions on the official logo are really quite ignorant, as a designer there are many different aspects that people seem to completely disregard. Take the comparison which has been made in this video. Where is the actual identity of the 2012don logo? What can you do with it outside of the logo? The typeface, colours, and everything are just usual. People are annoyed at 1(!) execution of colours of the official.. It's only one. Take a look at today;s display of the logo, its bold and is noticed!

I'm not a designer, I'm the other side of the fence, the viewer. The designer of the 2012 logo was ignorant of the fact the viewer should not have to spend hours working out what the hell it is. It seems far too much thought went into this when really a logo has just got to be simple and eye-catching. Nothing more. It doesn't have to mean anything beyond that, the event itself takes care of that.

That's kinda arrogant, the fact is, the logo has to get it's meaning across at a glance, people don't generally stand there for 10 minutes analysing the thing.
I still can't see anything other than Lisa Simpson giving head when I look at the official 2012 logo... the designers should have taken a step back and tried to see it as a non-designer would... even better, show it to some non-artistically-trained people and see what they thought of it... they are the target audience after all..!

I think they must look for a logo that is simple and culture bound, with aesthetic sense. It looks like i-don't-know or what-ever... I can't feel the preparation of 2012 london olympics, compare to beijing... you must try maybe to draw an idea using the Stonehenge, much better...

The official logo which everyone hates and which cost literally hundreds of thousands of pounds is the disgrace. Voysey's was done by one dude for free and is better.
What's "modern" about the official logo? It's an outdated and artificial graffiti tag. If it's some kind of misguided attempt by "Seb" Coe to connect with the "youf" ("London is spelled with a lowercase 'l'! I'm hip because I don't play by 'da roolz'!") it's a miserable failure.
