everbody's talking about the vocals, but the greatness of this song is the instrumental. How they fuckin' made it this kind of afro-swooping wall of sound with just two guitars, one bass and a simple drum kit?
This song is definitely easier on the ears the first time round. But what's great about the rest of the album is that it grows on you more and more on each listen.
I find that the albums i like straight away are the ones that are quickly forgotten, however the ones that take a few listens to enjoy usually become long-term favorites.
I'm sure the band wouldn't say no to the revenues from advertising. I however, am sick to death of companies sucking the soul out of decent music in a cynical and patronising attempt to 'connect' with the 'yoof' of today or whichever 'demographic' they decide to target. Good music should be enjoyed for what it is and not rammed down our throats until it ceases to be music and becomes a generic neutered jingle. They are worth moree than that.
although you are exagerating a bit, yeah, you might be right... i was going to present you my theory about how a song in a commercial can become like a pop landmark and enter into pop culture, but now as i reconsider i think i was too optimistic about this whole thing...
saw them in nyc.......If you get a chance to see them live take it.

When I first heard this I thought it was Anthony and the Johnsons - in a more upbeat style. What an amazing song, great rhythym and wonderful voice.

Why aren't the vocals like this on all of their songs? This is so much more listenable in my opinion than the other stuff I've heard.

Glad we agree, just re-read my post and I suppose I did get a little carried away... Although I stand by the sentiment.
