The people of OccupyWallStreet aren't hippies. They aren't smelly, and drugs aren't involved in any imaginable way. They are U.S. citizens that demand change. Sure, a lot of them are young. But a lot of them aren't. A lot of them are middle-aged workers, products of a system that is SQUEEZING THEM DRY. This isn't some publicity stunt. This isn't a facade, this is not political. This is a rising of the people.

The more these people develope a coherent and consistent agenda, so far, the more I disagree with them. Thanks to liberal policy the world economy is crashing. We must do two things to stop the meltdown NOW!!! Firstly, we need to raise all payroll taxes 10% for one year. We also need to stop (right now) wasteful handout programs like medicare, social security, unemployment,, etc. and lower the minimum wage to $2/hr so we can compete with China for jobs. @StompingRabbits I have worked in security. They drill it into us that if the authorities get violent, that is liable to cause violence. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to use pepperspray (a CHEMICAL WEAPON) unless the subject is so violent that only that or lethal force will stop them. The use of such weapons, in a nonviolent situation, is liable to CAUSE VIOLENCE. The people being sprayed WERE NOT BEING VIOLENT, so it stands to reason that the police were trying to INCITE A RIOT.

The teaparties were very top down, with Freedomworks and FOXnews funding and promoting them, which is why the tea party movement fizzled out after the health care bill was defeated, because the money and publicity dried up. OWS is not like that, because it is grassroots,and they have mobilised on a much more local level.

I don't know what OWS websites are you following or where you are getting your news but I haven't seen any of these things happen in the many live streams and ustreams I have watched. I have however seen America evolve into a police state. Is all over youtube so i don't know what you are watching that makes you defend any police officer. I used to respect them VERY MUCH. not anymore.

The rape, theft and fisticuffs where also widely reported as was the incident where the OWS rabble stormed NYPD barricades! @StompingRabbits I have worked in security. They drill it into us that if the authorities get violent, that is liable to cause violence. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to use pepperspray (a CHEMICAL WEAPON) unless the subject is so violent that only that or lethal force will stop them. The use of such weapons, in a nonviolent situation, is liable to CAUSE VIOLENCE. The people being sprayed WERE NOT BEING VIOLENT, so it stands to reason that the police were trying to INCITE A RIOT.

@StompingRabbits The violent factions were denounced by everybody else in the OWS movement, for the same reason that everybody turned against the British rioters a couple of months previously. And as a result, the only riot was in Oakland, and even that was very limited and followed by the other protesters organising a cleanup effort.
I was saying that the police were trying to INCITE that violence.

To start with Tea Party protests wrap up after a few hours, things didn't get heated between the police and OWS until weeks into the protest! The Tea Party doesn't stay forever, they make their statement and leave! They don't interfere with traffic and local businesses! You're being ridiculous and it's intentional!

@StompingRabbits I think that is a function of how the specific protests were organised. The teaparties were very top down, with Freedomworks and FOXnews funding and promoting them, which is why the tea party movement fizzled out after the health care bill was defeated, because the money and publicity dried up. OWS is not like that, because it is grassroots,and they have mobilised on a much more local level.

@StompingRabbits Actually, there was very little violence on the part of the protesters, (apart from Oakland which has its own problems with a corrupt police department). What normally happened, was the POLICE were the ones getting violent. There was a deliberate push amongst themselves to NOT be violent, not even LOOK violent, even after the beatings, the peppersprayings, and the teargassings,unlike the teabaggers who were bringing automatic weapons with signs saying "next time it's loaded".
