  • perfect perfect ragtime tuning perfect speed very nice i tried to play this for years then turned to a player piano and now i colect mechanical clocks

  • Nice job! And nice piano too! Enjoyed it.

  • Great technique! Smooth and flowing without any "pounding," playing a song that almost requires "choppiness." You've got superior touch, and played the entire piece without nary a misplaced finger!

  • This Kid is a Master Pianist! Hope he uploads more.

  • OMG MY NECK IS LONG TOO!!

  • Awesome! This is my favorite to play, but I can't hold a candle to you !!!

  • Your neck is really long

  • Really enjoyed your rendition. It felt like I was in a saloon drinking a whiskey.

  • tutorial...now.

  • Geez, how tall are you? You're a giant!

  • You are a damn good player and that is a bad ass looking piano.

  • Great performance, very good left-hand!

  • I love this clip. Everything about it is soooo right. The sound, the musical performance, the look--it's all so good.

  • Very nice but I have 2 questions... is that the only song you know ( meaning post more please) and also what kind of piano is that...Gulbransen??? just a guess

but really very nice I totally enjoyed that.

  • this is fabulous! very few folks have ever been able to play this at that speed clean!

  • thats fast

  • My name is Evan too. But you play better than me =)

  • You are italian?

  • @EdoHabbo97 EEeehhhh Bappidy Boopy!?

  • @Evanissimo You cannot speak italian just because younhave a mustche)))

  • :)

  • [/head desk] I was looking for this tune all over youtube since the morning o_o And just when I gave up, I found it, how quaint :D

  • the 34 people how dislike the video dont know that the thumbs down are not the download botton :)

  • Waldo can wail on the keys! ;)

  • Just one question, how much pedal are you using? It doesn't like a song that needs any pedal use at all. I'm learning it now but so far only on keyboard which has no sustain option.

  • W-O-W. :)

  • you did a great job playing this song. i really like it.

  • Well played - I like this piece

  • I have learned how to play all of the maple leaf rag and I am 13

  • i love that old piano!!!! can i have it?? :D

  • Awesome! Love those old player pianos!

  • @stovokor1 Not to sound like a dick or anything, but that isn't a player piano.

  • Super!

  • Perfect tempo and balance. Don't let any negative comments get to you. Plus the piano is perfect. This ain't Beethovan!! Go for it Evan!

  • its way out of tune

  • Love it!!!!!!!

  • Danggg thats purfectt

  • it's such a shame the audio is so poor in this vid... this is a great performance! thanks for sharing!

  • how long is one grade you talking about...i wanna know cause im learning this song ..the hasf i can play ...

  • So good!

  • F***ing fantastic. Wish I could play like that.

  • Just started learning this song and got the first two sections. As a mostly classical player (until becoming my schools jazz pianist) I find the "bouncy" left hand challenging. Anyway, you are a great pianist and did a wonderful job, keep playing!

  • i can play this and im in fifth grade

  • you did amazing!

  • PERFECT piano for this song. Got that good ol' twangy honkytonk sound ;)

  • Wow great job!

  • Just WOW. This was played flawlessly! By the way, I have a question. I can play the first two parts of this piece, and I have yet to learn the next two parts. Was it more difficult to learn last two sections oppose two the first two? I know the last two sections consist of much longer leaps in the bass clef but is it more difficult to play?

  • @Grasshoppa065 In my opinion, when the piece modulates, it becomes harder, although if you've mastered the first two sections then it won't take you too long to learn. A good thing about this is once you've learned it, it'll pretty much play itself so long as you've taught your finger muscles to remember where to position them, unlike for example the entertainer, where you often need more concentration even though you've learned it, because of the difficult octaves. Hope this helps :D

  • @toddyvedda Thanks for the advice. I actually learned the whole thing already, I learned the rest two weeks after my post, one section a week. I couldn't agree more with you, I know exactly what you mean by it "plays itself" once you have the muscle memory down. My music teacher gave me the entertainer to practice since I like playing ragtime so much, and again, I completely agree with you. I can play the first two sections, and it takes great concentration every time.

  • @toddyvedda I use to be able to play The entertainer when I was a kid doing second grade piano but this piece is in a different league. I didn't even waste time attempting it.

  • @Maxshard It depends, without the octaves with the added thirds in during the whole piece, the entertainer is a very easy piece, it depends what score you have i think

  • fantastic!! keep on playing

  • And red headed boys should never wear orange, unless of course they insist upon it. And I supose he does.

  • No, my dear, yes! Very much yes!

  • He begins with such pedantic predictability, but within fourty seconds he starts folding it all in upon itself, which is exactly what a rag must do. I find myself watching this over and over again! How does he go from being boring to being mezmerizing? When does this happen? How and when?

  • I love the sound of this piano

  • Timing was perfect, not too slow or too fast. Just right, like baby bear's bed. :)

  • woahh thats so good :D

did you say this was grade 8? im doing it for my school exam but have to know what grade it is D:

  • @xxnikkicolaxx Yeah it's grade 8 Royal Conservatory (Canada). Or it was 8 years ago when I played this for my grade 8 exam. Might want to get a syllabus and double check that one.

  • @Evanissimo ..... have to say a nice clean , crisp performance , liked it ... have you seen martin spitznagel's version with a difference ?

  • wow!

  • out of tune?

  • @aguyintheus gives is authenticity

  • @aguyintheus no

  • BRAVO dude! I love Joplin but I'll be darned if I can PLAY Joplin.......

    Again........BRAVO!

  • That's the best Maple Leaf Rag I've ever listened to.

    Great job :)

  • Tune that thing please

  • Very nice. Congratulations.

  • This was amazing. I'm currently trying to brush up on old piano skills (12 years of lessons down the drain... :/) I tackled this piece first. That final section (and always has) slows me down, hardcore. Well done sir.

  • I am 12 and I can play the intro on the piano :)

  • Out of all the people that I have heard play this one, I like yours the best. I cant explain it , its just right. Very good . I am learning it my self. I am afraid of that last part. I t looks impossible.

  • wouaw :o

  • I love your work! I hope you are still perfecting your piano skills for you are very talented.

  • Wow

  • You make it look so easy!

  • why ppl say ther grade when they learn it?

its like saying "he i learnt this song and im super stupid"

  • This song may look hard, but I'm learning it and I'm up to section three! It's actually really easy! AND I'm only in grade 6 at primary school!

(Yes, I agree with you, andrew190495! You DO get a sore arm from playing this piece too hard!)

Also, I'm gonna post MY video of ME playing this song when I learn it all!)

  • Sick left hand!! nice job

  • wao!!! can't say anything about this

  • That's so a player piano

  • gooooood !!!!!!

  • Found qaldo

  • Incredible!

  • i wish my piano were that old and sound like that. it's perfect for ragtime

  • One of the best renditions on youtube, practice and a keen ear equals 100% payoff

  • Outstanding !! Thank You.

  • i just noticed you have the same metronome as me

  • Best homemade performance I´ve seen so far! Favorite, pal!

  • Wow, you're one of the best home recorded players I've seen on You Tube playing this. Fantastic, I'll have to record myself :)

  • how can 31 people not like this song or the way you play it? This was spot on and perfectly preformed. Keep up the great work.

  • awesome *-*

  • I found Waldo!

  • Moonlight sonata

  • 1st and 3rd movements coming soon.

  • Great job playing! But what's the digitalized "ringing" sound? Can't listen hurts my ears!

  • Scott Joplin says rag is not fast

  • Terrific! Scotty Joplin would have loved this rendition of his "Maple Leaf Rag".

  • Just curious as to how long it took you to learn that song? It's been stuck in my head all day.

  • Fantastic, lovely looking piano too. Thanks for sharing. Now I want to get the music and learn it.

  • I envy you! Every time I play this I end up ten times faster than the pase that I started at. I need a metronome. Anyway, great job!

  • OMG you are giving me chillsssss. You are amazing. You know how hard that song must be???? Wow... btw do you know Echo of Spring? OK now I am inspired to go learn it on the piano myself! How long did it take you to learn it that well? BRAVO!!!!!

  • OMG you are giving me chillsssss. You are amazing. You know how hard that song must be???? Wow... btw do you know Echo of Spring? OK now I am inspired to go learn it on the piano myelf!

  • Makes me think of Super Mario Brothers :)

  • You are the only person on youtube who got the speed right. Liked the slow start to the third section. You should really save up for a slightly better piano but good job though.

  • Compared to the Entertainer, is this song harder?

  • @SoCalFlya Yes, for me it is a lot xD

  • You play piano very well. Somewhere, Scott Joplin is smiling!

  • It's Rory from the new Dr who!

  • Thats one Mighty piano!!!!

  • your piano must be very expensive

  • this was my grade 6 exame!

    I love to play this!

  • beautiful piano!

  • Woooooow! Thats awesome man ! :D

  • oh god, somebody drag that piano out back and shoot it, please

  • @thorsilvershammers There is no problem with the piano or the pianist. If you think that you can do any better at playing the piece, than post your own video. You should give the pianist credit for keeping up with something worthwhile in this world.

  • @barton1931 I don't have any problem with the pianist, the artistic interpretation, the tempo changes....but that piano is horribly, horribly out of tune...dumbass

  • @thorsilvershammers You need your head examined. You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground. It is in tune with itself, and is most likely going through a climatic change. I have been a piano tech for over 25 years, so I know what I am taking about.

  • @barton1931 .....this 'debate' involves neither my ass nor a hole in the ground. I have played on many old, dischordant pianos. These instruments have not had the benefit of 'technical expertise' such as your own; some haven't been tuned in well over twenty-five years. I recognize the jagged-sounding chords produced by such pianos. So, I'm not really sure what you are 'taking' about. I probably do need my head examined, but not by you.

  • You're Grade 8?

    I'm only Grade 1.

I feel so useless after watching that!! <333

  • That's the perfect piano for playing a rag, it sounds just like if it came straight from the 19th century ;-). Nice interpretation very clear and articulated sound. I love the slowing rythm surprises you make at 1:25 and 1:48. How about a little more of such surprises, for instance using power variations? ...although I have no idea whether Mr Joplin would be happy with using power variations.

I am from France, w/ amateur piano degree from Lyon music school. I played this piece in bars.

  • Note perfect - i love it when this piece is played perfectly :D

    Well done.

  • very hard to play,exellent work 5/5

  • wow i really like your piano! so ornate. great playing btw

  • great effort mate, the 3rd part is different to the original it seems, your own interpretation or from a book?

  • GREAT!!! Love the changing tempos. JWB - Fair Oaks, CA

  • Very good interpretation, but I would slow it down and enjoy it more. A friend of mine said that Scott Joplin is the American Chopin...

  • you remind me of the dad from coraline :P good playing

  • OMg your so good!!!

im doing this song for my examm! lol

  • Ha! So did I. Grade 8 RCM.

  • @Evanissimo Fantastic job! You combined grace and speed nicely. :-) I didn't know this was a grade 8 piece.

  • @LaraRachel1 what does that mean? "for an exam"

  • @daditsjustaytaccount well there's some people that are passing degres in music and you gotta do an exam by the end of the year showing 4 of your better songs of the year and most of the time you past your degres :) Is it answering your question dear ?

  • I like you interpretation! and nice piano too! the right kind to play "Jop's" music on!!!

  • WHOA

i LOVE the sound of your piano! xD

    great job btw! hahah

  • awesome man, i love this song

  • Excellent all those hours of practice when you might have wanted to do something else have payed off. Scott Joplin would have bragged about you to all of his friends. Don't ever stop playing daily. The great ones practice daily. But that said, you're the only one who hears the mistakes or flaws. If you made one I'd never know.

  • Great job man! Love that piano too!

  • amazing... wish could play that too... had been played for 15 years but it's 3 years ago that i broke up. So will be difficult to learn that easy. But I decided at that moment to buy the sheet music .. perhaps I will make it :-)

  • Oh my gosh, you beasted this song. =) It was so fun to listen to your version.

  • i have to say this was really well played. i think was perfect

  • Nice job man. I just learned this version and still a tad shaky at the very end but you really nailed the trio. Not sure how you can play those octive jumps that fast. And as far as i heard, no mistakes...very good job.

  • spectacular!

  • Ah. I love this song. I learned how to play it about 2 years ago, and i must be getting rusty, because I still make mistakes playing it. Such a nice catchy tune.

  • hehe perfect piano for this song, just like in the old lucky luke bars :D

  • Amazing!!!! :)

  • great; i learned that song once, the left hand on the 3rd part is a female dog

  • Old song sounding good on an old piano played great!

  • Nice ritardando at the beginning of the third section (trio). That piece is a killer!! :))))

  • @samdajellybeenie14 Agreed! That ritardando was pretty great :) Most of it's okay, it's the Tro that's the killer. The A and D sections are easy. The B is more difficult, but the C (trio), I still can't play it perfectly after playing Piano for 8 years :(

  • me either! I just played a piano competition and after 7 or 8 years playing piano, I can't play it perfectly either! I find the B section endings (1st and 2nd ending, but more 2nd ending) to be difficult. When I first started playing this piece, I thought the coordination between the two hands was really hard and really took a lot of practice!

  • Yeahh it is very tricky. The first section is easy, in fact very easy. At first the coordination between the two hands was very hard, it's got an unusual rhythm. Whenever I play this I try and avoid playing the Trio (I know it's bad!) but it's jst so tricky.

  • you really do need to have a 'feel' for these kind of pieces to be able to play them well ive been playing for 9 years and can now only just get pieces to sound good

  • @RSBlastoise383 how is this fake? are you one of those people who sit behind their computer screens wasting away in this world? you are only jealous

  • He's being sarcastic, he really means it 's amazing..... ' so good it must be fake' get it?

  • @BobbyJEL101 no just because im afraid of the sun and shit the school bus school bus school bus school bus school bus school bus school bus school bus school bus your gay

  • i know u mean ur id...XDDDD

  • A very talented young man.

  • very impresive man, nice what you did with the temo. NICE

  • Lol, the third section is a killer, isn't it? I can play the third section really well (sometimes) but by the time I've finished the piece, it feels as if somebody has thumped me in the upper left arm!

  • Nice, man!

  • NICE!

  • i always enjoy listening to this peformance

i can play 3 parts of this song and it isnt as good and fluent as this

    well done

  • wow, that's really awesome. you really got this light and bouncy sound, as selander62 said.

I always fail trying to play Scott Joplin. :D

  • Great job! Your piano looks like it's from the Ragtime era and sounds good too.

  • no way.

  • Wow! I love the way you play! I hope to see more of your piano playing posted, too!

  • Wonderful! Please post more of your piano playing. Love your piano!

  • i have that metronome!

  • Nicely done! LOVE the decreased tempo in just the right spots!

  • niesamowite robi wrażenie pozdrawiam

  • pretty nice plucking!!!

    great tallent!!!

add some heavy metal and it wil be terrific!!!
