A whole generation of Australians would stand and applaud this. Fantastic Prestwich song. Moss was the right bloke to sing this to us and Jimmy as the backup on this one was perfect. Every other Oz band would wish they owned this one.
listened to chisel all my life but never been so moved by this song so much. fuck me!! brings tear to the ol eyes i tell ya. when barnesy goes into solo and hits the notes it whiplashes me right back to when times were mush easier. and mossy..well the man needs no introduction. does the mans voice get better with age or what? unbelievable. truly one of the great live acts. i could go on forever. Thanks for the post mate.
@tequilasmommy1 Dragon is another awesome band out of Aussie, Kiwi originally but reformed now and awesome and guess what you can hear all the lyrics. Check out latest vids with new singer Mark Williams. Went to their concert in January in NZ with Jimmy Barnes and they stole the show.
@CaiusIssac Legend doesn't necessarily mean good, you obviously enjoy him, good for you but I don't simple as that. Read others comments on ticketmaster of his concerts in NZ Have you heard him live lately?I went to his last show and OMG most people walked out all he did was scream his songs. If it wasn't for the reformed dragon band and their awesome new lead singer it would've been a waste of money.
@Chazorvigg Bro its a comments page its meant to cause debate, get over yourself you have your opinion and I have mine. Love earlier Cold Chisel but Jimmy definitely was not the best on the night.
Fuk I miss the 80's pub bands in evry pub, punch ups in the carpark were just a side show between bands, pissed, rollin in fun and shiny chicks selling their wears ...long live the 80's man ...someone with a bid of brain should ressurect the pub scene !!!!!!
oh cold chisel...how rich you would be and continue to be if ONLY you had of just kept playing! welcome back, hope you stay around for my boys to see you live!
I am 48 & have loved this band since I was 17 - seen them in nearly every Ncle show, recently at Ncle Panthers (old workies) , Bimbadgen & Ncle ent cent - couldn't beat the workies but were brilliant at each venue just the same!!
i feel so sad for my children who will grow up never seeing live entertainment of this calibre...this sent a chill through my spine-lets see the shit pumped out these days do 1 tenth the feeling... i doubt it.
@frowgli1 I agree, we used to grab the gig guide mostly Fridays and see what Pub we were going to go to see what bands on the Weekend, seemed so simple. Hardest things were getting the taxi lol even back then in Melbourne.
One Little known Band in Melbourne from 1981 was grand wazoo band of a 1000 dancers and still going in 2012. 15 piece band
for me all this music was used on an powerfull aussie miniseries called"sword of Honour" made in 86 which gave you a very painfull glimpse of what the vets had to go through. it really brings out the meaning of songs like this and "khe sanh". be prepared though because it will kick you in the teeth.
@shelltarz got to agree with you mate, it allows one to take in and feel the meaning much more. i hope a lot of vets use this for healing all the crap they brought home and had to endure
I was there last night when they played this in Hobart as a tribute to Steve. So touching and wonderful. It is such a great version of the song. RIP Steve Prestwich
Love this song so much! wonder how many other 20 year olds will be in the front row of the first adelaide concert! They dont know what they are missing out on
Ian. I heard a rumour once that Don said "there is one talented guy in this band". don't know if that's true. The band had four extremely talented guys in it. You Sir. Your'e exceptional. Miss you guys, can't wait for the replay shortly. I'll be in the front row. Somehow
Not to be political but Rememberance/Victory Day is coming up. Gives me a pause for thought. Much respect to all those that have served and are serving still. Love this song. Cold Chisel is an Aussie icon.
@landscapecadmonkey Watching them do this at Accer on Wednesday night I don't think there would have been a dry eye in the venue.. Very touching.. Since Steve's passing the band seems to give the song an even more special meaning..
Saw them in concert last weekend and they blew me away. They don't have to rely on their past reputation like a lot of bands. They can hold their own in today's wonderful eclectic choice of artists. Jimmy & Mossy Rock on!
I was playing Rainbow Six : Vegas while being in a American clan (im from Norway) and a girl from Australia in the same clan sendt me a link witch I ofc checked out. Was this song... Never heard about Cold Chisel before that. But I tell ya, fell in love right away with this song.If ya don't like go listen to something else, but if ya like make sure to give thumbs up =)
this is one of my favourite songs cold chisel is just true aussie and there really isnt to many true true aussies left in australia with all the migrantes every australian loves this band im a true aussie and i think they are just amazing up untill this modern era they still can perform with the best of them they are just a great band and will always be rememered in australian history from when they started
My absolute favourite song ever, Ian Moss singing it rather than just Jimmy makes it just wonderful. I love Jimmy but sometimes its nicer to hear Ian. Gutted that their concert is on my birthday as this is one band you cannot afford to miss. RIP Steve.
The more you hear this the more you appreciate the quality and emotion of this song, I don't think there is a greater song than this, the way Mossy performs, it he owns it.
@oohoohigottaknow actually Steve Prestwich wrote it in 81 for their album that was recorded for the american market and Uriah Heep did a cover of it in 89
@oohoohigottaknow you absolute tosser!!!!!! Steve Prestwich (Cold Chisel's drummer) wrote this before he joined Chisel. Uriah Heep are the ones who covered it 9 years later. And just for the record, covering a song is hardly theft. Just ask Uriah Heep............
I'm 26 and I just started listening to cold chisel. Can't believe what I've been missing out on!!! This track is TOPS It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from.....this track is deep and should make you feel something special!!!!
I have always loved this song (as well as all other Chisel songs) but this video made me choke up, the passion to which this song was performed and the shots of the crowd singing in absolute bliss is the only fitting tribute to a master songwriter which is Steve Prestwich R.I.P may these voices reach you where ever you are.
Bloody Aussies are good at everything... well nearly.... theyre awesome neighbours tho..

This is a great song and performed with reverance and feelings. The young girl who knew the words and had to wipe the tears away caused mine to flow. The young in the U.S. didn't care and still don't understand that the servicemen and women who fought and died in Viet Nam are the same as those today that they do support. Thank you for this song.
@ontos1963 Haha what is the deal with every second top rated song on the older videos having a little dig at young people? It's such a cliche. Of course young people today appreciate Nam vets as much as we appreciate those serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. If I'm correct it was more your generation that didn't support them and booed them when they returned home
Thanks wish I had tried harder to stay in 94 ah well back in Ireland now its summer and raining again. Just have to play CC every reminds me if the great party times in Sydney and Wellington
@Martin251167 Hey Martin, I have to say that they are pretty amazing. As an Aussie I am very proud of the honesty in their music. This is not over produced crap but music that only the very talented can produce. Unfortunately, sometimes real talent is lost in the war to sell records. As an Irishman you have to be as proud of what your country has produced as I am with what my country has produced. when it is all said and done, Aussies are just Irishman with a tan.
@Martin251167 Bout ye Martin? From Norn Iron myself and been a Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes fan a long time,Chisel are as good as they get, mind ye Thin Lizzy in the day were hard tae beat :)
@CleanSheet1191987 Snap... I am in Germany and am doing exactly the same. Aussie music fix...not sure whether its making my home sickness better or worse
@CleanSheet1191987 Hope u r enjoying the guinness and the great live music Ireland has to offer. Sorry about the weather but we can't have it all in the emerald island. Have a great time and keep the flames trees buring
Nobody among those 15 dislikes I see against the 836 likes could possibly be an Aussie. So don't worry about them Jimmy, Don and crew.... we Aussies....we love our Chisel :)
Cold Chisel will always be part of the most influential band in Australia's Music History. Thank you for the great memories. Classic songs that will live with me forever. RIP Steve Prestwich, you will missed by all your fans.
@PeterRabbit1937 i couldnt agree more, they showed that same fucking girl 5 times or something, by the end i just wanted to punch her, ruined the song for me haha
this song brings back so many memories for me..when i left home....and my family disowned me......but i made it all on my own!!!

That was me at the age of 15, and one of the best nights of my life. So glad I got to see them before the amazing Steve Prestwich left us.
I get to see them again this year in Sydney and I cannot wait! Who knows..maybe you'll see me on some footage again!

@ontos1963 It's not actually about war. It's a break up song.

Nobody among those 15 dislikes I see against the 836 likes could possibly be an Aussie. So don't worry about them Jimmy, Don and crew.... we Aussies....we love our Chisel :)
