That G chord is a variation of G6. The top e is the 6th note in the G scale hence G6. The fact that the d on the second string is in close harmony with the top gives it an unusual voicing plus there is no 3rd i.e. b in the G chord, a voicing more associated with power chords in rock (G5) Nice stuff.
Song is originally played with capo at the second fret. The second chord you hear in the song is similar to the first, but with a c# note played on the g-string. The c# then slides up to the seventh fret. The finger picking pattern is still the same. Put in an e note on the b-string for the fourth chord. Then back to D (E).
