Terry O'Quinn was the best actor on this show. he plays a role for 5 seasons, portraying a confused, depressed, but overall humble character that was the spotlight of very emotional scenes. then he returns to play a different role, one that slowly morphs from his previous character into a manipulating, inhuman monster that's mission in life is to kill all the people that the original character cared about. and while playing this role, he still thinks that he is a good person. what a great actor.
Amazing, because Smokey had tried to kill Jack in such a way to fall off that cliff, only Locke had saved him, and thus was manipulating Jack now to believing he wanted to help them get off the island, when really, Smokey needed them dead also, chosen ones.
Smokey really reflects Satan so many ways, transforming himself into an angel of light, lieing, pretending to help when really leading to death, bringing it upon themselves to get killed by their own hands.
@Damon242 See I thought that he was manipulating Eko to eventually help him kill Jacob, like he did with Ben and Richard. Except it didn't work with Eko, so he killed him. And the reason he didn't kill Richard was because Jacob touched him before they met again. Was that along the lines of what you were thinking?
@ChurchOfMe93 Pretty much. I always rested on the idea that he didn't kill Richard for the same reason as he approached him all those years later, as there was still that chance that he might help him (and because, unlike Eko, the actor didn't have to leave the show).

The island wasnt done with Locke until he made Jack a believer.
The island wasnt done with Jack until he took a leap of faith and fixed the island.

The cool thing about this scene is, is that its very similar to the scene in "White Rabbit". Except its in darkness, not light.

@rob87s Also at 1:31 he is trying to remember exactly what happened in that situation.... because MiB almost made him fall off a cliff.

I really wish the finale showed a convo of Jack and John. It would have been great to see Jack say "You were right" or something like that

@JLlo64 I think when Jack and Locke shake each others hands in the church speaks volumes.

"Why'd you kill the pilot?" Seems like an obvious counterpoint/question

@BattlestarPegasus Or Eko, for that matter.

@ChurchOfMe93 Thanks to Richard's episode, the audience thankfully knows why he did.

I've always wondered if it was actually the smoke monster impersonating Christian at the beginning of the series (or throughout the entire show).

That made me so sad hearing John called a sucker at the end. I really wish he could have had a better life on the show.

The greatest thing John Locke did was make Jack a believer!
kal1472 1 year ago 35
@kal1472
Yes! Some have speculated that making Jack a believer WAS Locke's purpose in the first place.

I love the fact that Jack stood up for John against MIB, who takes John for nothing but a sucker.
This conversation mirrors the one MIB had with Ben earlier this season, except that Ben didn't stand up for Real Locke until Real Locke's funeral.

@2:10 A bit of Locke's theme music is being played. Locke'd Out Again. I hope they play the whole song again before the series wraps up.
warlord4400 1 year ago 2
@2:15 - end "John Locke was not a believer Jack." Jack couldn't believe that it had to be said from John Locke's mouth.
