  • nice crack of the airwaves there

  • hmm , i think if the air force wants to break the sound barrier, they can and will. And who gives a shit if there has to be a war , it's got to be damn fun. Oh yeah last I checked there is a war. I support the efforts of our troops.

  • its a navy plane -.- not the air force

  • theres different variants

  • yeah but all f-18 cariants serve in the navy i'm pretty sure of that i'll double check though. only reason i say that is because the the airforce got the f-16 over the f-18 during the light wing fighter project. and the f-18 was made for carriers..

  • the F-18 is in lots of otehr air forces besides america, likfe aus, were i live, we dont have carreirs

  • ah i see sorry my bad i thought we were talking about the usaf so your right =P

  • Pretaining to the conversation on this page... What, exacxtly, IS the speed of stupid?

  • does any1 know what the reno course looks like, my favorite course is the unlimited class course

  • I broke the sound barrier in my restored shuttleworth camel

  • i don't believe u a shuttle worth camel is a biplane unless u can prove me wrong like sending me an image or something. besides going that fast in a biplane would completely disenegrate the plane

  • You dont believe me? Just go to any air show you can hear the sonic boom a mile off. Camel powerrrr!!!

  • u must be out of your mind 1 it's illegal 2 break the sound barrier unless there's a war, 2 a camel is a biplane it cannot break the sound barier because it can only go like 200mph

  • Dont you dare argue with me until try it yourself! like i said: camel power period! I even out turned an F22 on my last flight out.

  • man u r FUKED up i think u need 2 see a psychiatrist, man i'm not even talking 2 u

  • i think you ought to read between the lines and get over it! don't have a camel(cow) man!

ps anything can brake the sound barrier if strapped to a rocket! even if it does disintegrate!

  • so u died?

  • what about the concorde, they would fly at mach two, and no war.

  • it flied over the ocean and it never flew above the speed of sound in our country.

  • ? what are you talking about

  • the concorde.

  • where the hell did u get that fact that its illegal to break the soundbarrier unless theres a war

  • wrong again true the pilots can't break the sound barrier around reesidents air shows and stuff similar to that they can how ever when they are high enough altitude and over certaint areas... so yeah you need to do some reading as well =P

  • You'll hear a loud boom if he broke the sound barrier. I can't believe how ignorant alot of the responses are. The only reason why planes aren't allowed to break the sound barrier is because it can crack glass. Thats it. It doesn't kill people. It doesn't blow your ears out. It can crack glass. A vapor cone just means the air pressure is low enough to condensate water vapor. Not that the aircraft is doing Mach 1.

  • No. I'm sure he did not break the sound barrier.

While it is illegal for civil aircraft to break the sound barrier over the continental US it is not illegal for the miliary in designated military training corridors.

  • there is a permit for everything at airshows/air races, including permission to break the sound barrier

  • Nothing better to hear flying over you, except maybe a few cobras.

  • I was there.

He didn't break the Sound Barrier.

He did pull about 9+ G's on the back side of the course.

IT was a BLAST to watch and I had lunch with "Tina" nearly every day last year.

  • The guy said the speed was 657 (I presume in MPH) therefore there is no way they broke the sound barrier (which is dependent on air temp). Besides if they had, there would be a lot of hurt/dead people in the vicinity from the sonic shock wave.

  • wtf people don't die from a jet breaking the sound barrier there are a lot of f16's that fly over our town for training excersises and they break the sound barrier sometimes and were not dead/injured people the only thing the sonic boom can do is break an eardrum but thats only at low altitudes.

  • I'm not sure if he broke the sound barrier. He flew one lap before I turned my camera on and there is a lag in the sound by a few seconds. That demonstration was really loud, if at 00:19 there was something that happen it occured sometime before.

  • @Seapickles The speed of sound is 768 mph.

  • did he break the sound barrier? I know it is very possible in that airplane but did he?

  • No he didn't break the sound barrier. It would be EXTREMELY loud. You would also see a vapor cloud at the same time. I believe it is illegal to break the sound barrier over a large group of people and at such a low altitude. My husband is an F/A-18 pilot for the Marine Corps. Great video!

  • Yeah there would be a "cone" around the jet

  • no he did not break the sound barrier you would have heard it plus the said he was going 650mph that's below the sound barrier

  • The "sound barrier", or speed of sound varies with medium and density. For instance, sound travels faster through water. A different altitude or atmospheric conditions will give you a different speed of sound, or "sound barrier".

  • at sea level the speed of sound is about 760 miles per hour at 30,000 feet it's about 840mph

  • At 30,000 feet it's about 640mph,FYI

  • congradulations the F18 is not at 30,000 feet is he so he's not going the speed of sound that's what we've been talking about

  • It is illegal to go supersonic in continental US airspace.

  • just because it is illegal it doesn't mean it gets done. i've seen it many times by military...
