There's no "Arrangement" tab in system preferences after I select Display. I'm using the same connection as you - mini display port to HDMI adapter connected to the HDMI cable in my tv (Sharp Aquos). Using a Macbook Pro. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Thank you - this was extremely helpful. Unfortunately I haven't found a way for the audio for movies played in LC player to transfer to the TV. Do you know how to do this? Thanks!
To determine if your Mac will allow audio output, follow this: Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info > Hardware > Audio (Built In) If it says "HDMI Output or HDMI/Display Port Output” your MBP is supposed to support audio out via an appropriate MDP to HDMI adapter. If yes, then go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > Type: HDMI. Then you should be ready.
what was the brand name on that mini display to hdmi i have one thats made by rocket fish but it is not supporting sound thanks there is so many on amazon not sure wich is rigt one
is it possible to get sound out of the projector cables through the mini-display cable???? i have a different min-display cable, i have the one that you connect to the PC channel on you tv and you have 2 screws to screw in to you tv..... If you know of this, please help me.... thanks Josh
I followed the steps but my sony tv wont display my mac pro sreen. Is there a setting that the tv needs to be on, because the computer identifies the sony tv?
I liked this tutorial. I followed the instructions but my attempts were not successful. The reason I found was that it is not the minidisplayport that is the problem, but the year of the computer. Macs before 2010 cannot use this method will need additional wires to make this work.
@LordFabianshire Yes true. Only after a certain production date does the Minidisplay port support sound. On top of that only some cables support sound.
Heaven help us !!!

Two questions:
1) Can you just have your TV as the display and have the macbook screen off?
2) Can you use the TV as a second monitor?

how about the home theatre

@aboodtube
With my Bose home theatre the HDMI works the same.
It depends what system you have. When you go to Sound output your system may show up.
DrGrovesvideos 9 months ago
@aboodtube u should be able to plug an optical cable from the tv to the surround sound

Im having the same issue as @DJTONYBEE1 and im on a brand new 17" MacbookPro. Any suggestions? Thanks.
nateberkheimer 1 year ago
@nateberkheimer
Since you are on a brand new Macbook Pro, it should support sound through minidisplay.
So if your TV isn't showing up when you go to sound preferences, your minidisplay to HDMI adapter doesnt support sound.
Where did you buy yours from?
DrGrovesvideos 1 year ago
Hey quick question.
Im runnin on a macbook pro. and in step 5 when u click for sound
mine only shows.
Internal speakers - built in
but youre shows
Internal speakers built in and
hdmi pro i believe...
DJTONYBEE1 1 year ago
@DJTONYBEE1
What year was your macbook pro made?
Either you purchased an adapter that wont support sound or your computer doesnt support sound output through hdmi.
Are you getting video to work?
