I agree the male vocals make it more powerful, but Nightwish's cover has slightly more - or louder - drumming in it, which adds something to it. But the violin solo in this is amazing. Both versions are awesome!

that can be chalked up to being recorded in different time periods. As a sound engineer I can tell you Gary Moore's drums are very powerful but I guess they weren't recorded properly. The big thing with digital recording is that you can get a completely different sound out of an instrument in the computer than what was recorded. They probably EQ'd the hell out of it and added alot of reverb. that's why Nightwish's drums sound more "Powerful". hope that helps :)

Sorry, Thryf1ng. They don't do a bad job, true. But as a cover I have to give it to Nightwish. They just seem to put so much more power into it and this is not a song that can be slowed or gentled. I love Gary Moore's version ( the original of course ) but I think Nightwish truly nailed it. But not by much. Heh besides, hard deny that Tarja's voice can improve almost anything.
