This is the best instructional video I've found online. I've been an angler since i was a small child, but never had a chance to learn Fly Fishing. I picked up my first Fly Rod yesterday and needed instruction, so this is perfect for a beginner like me. Nice job!
@batstarwars2 the keyword is Match the Hatch. Look at what kind of flies, spiders, etc . . are flying around that area and try to match a fly. Most trout areas have Hatch charts that tell you what insects are hatching at what time of year.
one of the best fly casting video! you should have a podcast up! that'll be great if you did! learn how to fly cast because of these 3 videos thanks!!!!!!
great video, i have been fly fishing for a few years now and this video and the others in the series made casting effortless compared to other training methods ive tried
I'm just getting into fly fishing and about to buy a new fly combo. I do a lot of spin fishing and if the line goes out a lot it is able to get tangled easily. Does the fly line tangle as easy as spin fishing and gotta take time to un-knot it??
absolutately the best straight casting video ever made. Im not posting this to compete with others jus to earn a ludicrous green thumb rating. This guy really simply without argument nails each step by step
geese, I've been watching all kinds of vids & reading up a storm, and can now successfully cast about 10 ft, if aiming down wind. This is the only vid I've found that covers the "basics", how to hold, the casting motion ect. Just getting into it, never fished before and the "basics" were just what I needed. Thank you!!
Tim is great even in his condescending, "Oh I know how to do it," which is so accurate as I speak for myself almost every time I go out and execute the wrong way again and again. Glad I found this. Thanks Tim!
Tim, very helpful. Just got my first combo and wanted to find some tips to get me out in the yard practicing. Just the right amount of info here. If I'm ever down in DePere I'll for sure swing by! Thanks
Having practiced with this video and part 2 in mind, I can now cast accurately from 40 to 50 feet, and I actually look like I know what Im doing. I cant catch a fish to save my life :) but my casting is getting good now. Thanks!!
I just spent my second day (ever) practicing fly casting, and my wrist is killing me. Ive read and listened to lots of good advice, but this is the 1st video that really drilled it into my head... dont use the wrist. Ok now Im off to the 2nd video.
I bought an Ugly Stick Shakespeare fly pole (about $50) just to start out and I was thinking about buying a new pole. What pole do you prefer? I would like to spend $150 or less.
I rewatched several times the whole series.. thanks for a great foundation.

after you cast it out do you reel it in like a regular lure or do you let it sit out there and wait for the fish to hit
