its a helicopter, certaintly not a jetpack, but nonetheless still pretty cool. you guys should concentrate on electric motors instead, although battery techn is still pretty shitty, wait a couple more years, batteries will get better, than electric motors will become practical. why electric? because, gets rid of pollution, little bit of the noise, clean, easy to manience, give 100% torque, you can maneauvar fast, take off fast, etc.

And by the way, this is not a helicopter. It is a "Ducted Fan Individual LIft Device". This is the worlds finest example of a ducted fan configuration of a flying belt.

It need to develop a model that can mount two M2 Browning .50 Caliber machine guns mounted on top of the fans which can be swapped for two Stinger missiles if need be. The US military would order 10,000 of these and you'd be rich!

The recoil from the .50's would interfere too much with the propulsion, it could even destabilize the craft. Also, you have to think about the ratio of weight of the ammunition and the actual guns to fuel consumption, total thrust, and effectiveness against hostile targets. A more suitible choice would be a 5.56 mm light machine gun, or maybe a 7.62 mm, although that could result in a compromised ammunition supply. As for heavy weapons, small RPG launchers should do the trick.

if you were to double the size of the rotors couldnt you theoretically double the lifting capacity and increase the amount of fuel on board? But then the added weight of fuel and the strain on the engine for the larger prop might cancel each other out. Has anyone at martin thought about this?
