Some people in my family calls horses... hoassses. They didn't get that from here, but i always thought it sounded cool. And we eat with knaaves and fokks. Stan Laurel from (Laurel & Hardy) talks exactly like we do and he lived in Glasgo while he was in school, so I think that's how they used to talk back then.

I have noticed that Scottish seems to use a lot of abbreviated or slightly edited German words in place of English ones. One I especially noticed was 'ken' which means know, in German 'kennen (lernen)' means 'to (get to) know'. Strange. I'm actually Scottish, from Banff in Aberdeenshire, but I've lived in Norfolk for as long as I can remember, my Dad's from Teeside and my Mum's from Erfurt near Berlin in Germany. I also went to a Private school so I have 'no' accent...Or speak 'Queens English'.

As a doric speaker, this video comprises of Doric and glaswegian phrases. Only people in the north east of scotland speak in doric. we don't say words like "canny" or "awright doll" it tends to be people from southern scotland who say words like that.
