Since some people still don't know, yes this was a joke that Mastodon pulled. They aren't doing a cover record (as kickass as that could turn out). The new album will be 100% new material. They've just been very hush-hush about it because they like to surprise fans.

I don't think they are doing a cover album as their new studio release. I've read in a couple of magazines that they won't even play their new material live, they won't even release the album's name because on they aren't sure if they want to keep the name and they dont want to lead anyone on. And the concept is very hush hush. But if they do release a cover album that'd be rad but I'm almost 100% positive that it is ot going to be the one coming out early next year.
