@thatguy30000 Of course not, they wanted to make it more like the PC version to make more money. The original PC version was very much like this, except it's easier to find parts to set this up. Basically like what's going on here, two PSX's are linked together, same with the PC version, you can link two PC's together and play the MS-DOS version in either Deathmatch, or Cooperative modes. Except the PC version had an advantage, you could link FOUR PC's over a router and do IPX. Much more fun.
@PSXDooMERR In the original MS-DOS Doom there was no such thing as a fraglimit. The players basically fragged each other until they were satisfied and moved on to the next map.
You don't even need 2 actual Doom discs. Back in the day, using a pen cap or something to hold your CD lid button down and still swap the disc, you could play many Link-up games using 1 disc. We didn't have the money to buy multiple games so we figured out how to do it with 1 hahah

hey bud got a question: i have a ps3 and an ethernet cable. my friend and i have copies of doom and final doom. would i be able to hook up to him and deathmatch him? like would that work?
@jpd2009RV I haven't actually tried it to confirm this, but I'm almost certain that it wouldn't work. The link port on the original Playstation used an entirely different type of cable.
no, i mean i have two legit copies of Doom for Playstation. but my buddy has ps3 and so do i. my original question was to see if it was possible to system my ps3's with an ethernet cable and play playstation 1 doom. but that seems to be impossible. so, now we just play doom on the PC
I don't think it's possible, but I don't own a PS3. Again, if you have Linux for it you could install Skulltag on both of them and play. But that might be too much trouble. I should've got a Ps3 instead of this peasantish Xbox.
Very true. Thing is, they deleted the ability to install other OS' on the PS3 in one of the later updates. So, if you do get a PS3 and you want linux, don't update your ps3. Also, when you're under that OS, it can't access the PS3's video hardware so pretty much you can only play doom and other old games... which is totally fine with me lol but some other people have beefs with it. I bought a ps3 after several 360's i had shit out on me with the red ring. ps3 has never once broke yet
You can end the match by heading to the exit and you can just advance to the next arena? That's just awesome!

If your PS3 has linux, and you can install skulltag on the Ps3 and PC, then yes. You could play each other.

well, i do have skulltag/zDoom on my pc. we've done that, but i wanted to do PSX doom. but from what i understand, it's impossible to do such :(

@jpd2009RV
You want to play PSX vs PC? You can run a PSX emulator on PC but that's far as I know.
