  • fix lenore too :B

  • Dude all of Opeth's albums are amazing. Some have no screaming, some have a lot, but it's all good.

If you want death metal listen to Aeon or Bloodbath... (both great)

If you want to get high and visit another world listen to Opeth......

If you're sober and want to visit another world listen to Opeth....

  • i hear a lot of complains about Heritage, i don't find it as my favorite opeth album, but it is a great album

why the fuck would an awesome and talented band would get stucked in just one style of music, if they can play lots of good stuff? at least they change trying to do more good music and different styles

art is about taking risks, and they're doin that

i don't think that a band like Led Zeppelin would've become in what they are without taking risks

  • This is in fact one of my favorite parts of The Lotus Eater, I personally love funk and jazz as much as any other genre that is incorporated in prog-music these days. If you truly like Opeth, you don't just like them for certain elements, have a sense of fucking perspective and open-mindedness. These guys aspire to keep growing and experiment with different sides and edges of music, while you are still fucking stuck at Ghost Reveries? You are not worthy to be a fan if this is the case.

  • @BenjaminProd With that in mind, Heritage still sux.

  • @MrCh33pshot That's your opinion. Personally I love Heritage, and I like where they are taking the music. You have to understand that Opeth is a progressive band, if you listen to Opeth just because of their metal elements, you will not really listen to Opeth, you will listen to metal as Opeth in one moment, and therefore a lot of it won't be good to you. I listen to their music as a whole, and I love prog.

  • @BenjaminProd Doesn't have anything to do with 'understanding Opeth.. and knowing their music as a whole', I love metal.. and I love Jazz, I love indie, I love trance.. but, Heritage isn't actually very good. It's boring. Don't go the whole 'you need to listen how deep and amazing it is' on me.. it's just boring. They play really dynamic interesting parts for like 20 seconds a song.. and then groove on an organ for 8 minutes. Groovin is cool, but structure is important.

  • @gsusfreak08 If you like trance then I could not give a bigger shit about your opinion of Heritage;). "It's just boring", this is an enitrely different approach to music and it is heavily influenced by 60's and 70's prog music / psychedelic stuff, it is SUPPOSED to be like this... if you've heard anything like King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Focus, Yes, Rush, Nazareth, Kansas etc etc, you would know that this is pretty well made and lacks no structure as you say.

  • @BenjaminProd It's a well written homage to those bands and that style, definitely, and it's performed brilliantly. It's still boring.

  • @BenjaminProd I love Opeth, in fact I'm going to see them later today at the house of blues.

I'm NOT invested in Opeth playing death metal, Damnation is one of my favorite records. I love prog and I still think heritage is lame.

  • It kinda resembles Mario's underground theme...vaguely, if at all.

  • aAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAOAAA[AAZZAAZXXAAX GENIUS

  • this shit works because it's kinda goofy and kinda takes you out of the seriousness of the song, that way the badass conclusion that comes up right afterwards rapes your asshole

  • Why people hate this part so much? This is the best part of the song...

  • People dislike that part? Its like one of the best parts imo, especially right after that. Those cleans are amazing.

  • I absolutely love this part in the song, soo gnnnnarrr!!1

  • As Kid, I don't remember being that skilled at Mario.

  • Watershed was the first album I bought from Opeth, I heard about them before and never really cared to listen. But holy shit, it's awesome, and if some people hate it, then I can't imagine how good the other albums could be!

  • hahahaahahahhaha love it!

  • I LOVE this section

  • reminds me of castlevania lololol

  • I think it's a little over-progressive

    y'all know what I'm sayin'?

  • I think "Danny Elfman" more than anything else when I hear this part.

  • Epic. love it

  • this is one of the best moments in the song, over-proggresive my ass! but really dont, that just sounds dirty ;)

  • this part forces me to turn up my volume and smile! One of the best Opeth song imo.

  • If anything, over progressiveness is a good thing haha.

  • LOL

  • Opeth is THE SHIT! and fuck "over-progressiveness"

  • Funny and very amusing.

  • watershed is fucking amazing, whoever doesnt get that has problems and shouldnt listen to opeth. each of their album is unique and magnificent

  • Hey, where is the live section at the beginning from?

  • Honestly, for me this is one of the best passages Opeth has ever done. It's experimental in a very good way.

  • ITSA SUPAH MARIOPETH!@!

  • Those who think this is over progressive should listen to some Spastic Ink and then go fuck themselves.

  • Chill, people..

  • Over progressive ? Sure, let's have "Black Rose Immortal", but these fucking 30 seconds are OVER PROGRESSIVE.

  • Comment removed

  • this is the best bit in the whole fucking song man

  • I don't understand why so many people dislike this part. It's actually my favorite part of Lotus Eater. :S

  • Overprogressive?

I seriously love that part. Nice to hear some variation.

  • Hehe that's my favorite part of the song :p Maybe Michael got inspired by his nintendo I dunno

  • There is no such thing as "Over Progressive" Just people without the brain power to enjoy complex music.

  • that geezers sick at mario

  • 1st thing: I rofled, that Mario pwns.

2nd: Another Ghost Reveries? Hmm I would not mind another Blackwater Park. However, Watershed is imo one of the worst, but I fully understand they wanted to try sth else. So they went back to the 70's. And these 70's-kinda sounds are the best on this album - like that part of Lotus Eater.

It is the metal part of the album that is simply not as good as before. Greetz to all fans.

  • @MrCrimsondom I definitely agree with you that the metal parts of Watershed were no where near on par with say the metal parts of Blackwater Park or Still Life.

But the more energetic softer parts such as Porcelain Heart, Hex Omega, and Burden have some amazing writing to them.

And of course Hessian Peel is hands down the best track on the album, and IMO they're best song since The Drapery Falls.

  • Hehehe, it doesn't remind me of that at all. Maybe if you put the fight against Bowser.

But it reminds me more of some fusion. Nice thing.

  • Whatever Opeth Does Is Awesome

  • This Is Real OPETH!

  • on the other hand, hessian peel is one of the best things they've ever done, and in that case the jarring transition around 5:45 of that song actually works.

of course, maybe i'm wrong and i just haven't "gotten it" yet. i am completely on board with that possibility - i felt that way about both the song "godhead's lament" and the album deliverance, and then one day, i'm listening in my car, and it clicked, and my mind was blown.

  • it's funny because it's true.

i am a die hard opeth fan and i think watershed is, overall, awesome, and obviously better than almost any other piece of music out there, but this is the most egregious example of the problem that album had - it was a series of great ideas plopped right next to each other without smooth transitions or attention to cohesion. mikael got mad sophisticated with the instruments and the textures, and amazingly the album sounds cohesive, but the individual songs do not.

  • @jsabbott0 So true. I felt good about this part of Lotus Eater, but what pissed me off was Heir Apparent's ending. It could become almost as epic as Leper Affinity's one, but they just added it like it was some spare part.

  • I love this section! Whats wrong with it?

  • For the record, by definition there can be no such thing as "over-progressive."

  • Dude, 4/4 is so over progressive

  • @wcr4 you don't have to be in 2415/213idaksd21i2 to be progressive

  • Haha, too awesome!!! Make more!! :D

  • In the beginnig, they're playing In My Time Of Need -.- x)

  • watershed is one of their best albums stop whining take "heri apperant" as an example

  • @dagon940 best??? why?

  • Hahaha!

  • Where did you get this live clip from?

  • its form my time on need live en channel 4 of sweeden

  • One of my favorite Opeth moments.

That's exactly why I love them so much. they never fail to impress.

  • hahahahahaaa +1 internets to you, sir

  • one of the fuckin best parts in that song

  • i wouldn't call it over progressive. i mean, the whole thing is 4/4. and one of the biggest thing in prog is varying time signatures. and i agree with tenrash. idea copied from dark nintendo night

  • progressive music is splicing in pieces of music that aren't traditional for that genre(I'm over simplifying). A lot of the time that does include leaving the comfortable 4/4 signature (in metal this is mainly thanks to Dream Theater) but considering that melody is VERY different for Opeth, i'd in turn call that VERY progressive.

  • i still wouldn't call it over progessive. no doubt this section IS prog. it has that 70s prog vibe kinda thing yet still retains that modern heavy sound (even though its not heavy at all)

  • Why would people have a problem with this section? It's my favorite part of the song. Plus, the lotus flower is psychoactive, and this part has a bit of a psychedelic feel to it

  • sounds cool. Progressive is always superior cause its so vast and varied.

  • no connection ???

  • hahahaHAHAHHA

  • awesome XD

  • This section is the boldest Opeth move ever. And I dig it SOOOO much !

  • People really should stop bitching about this section of The Lotus Eater. "Over progressive?" Just shut the fuck up, really. You have no idea what Opeth is about if you actually use the term "over progressive." Apparently none of you have ever listened to The Mahavishnu Orchestra, or any of the other bands that influenced Mikael.

  • I fucking agree... Its so damn annoying when ppl bitch and complain about watershed... They just want another fucking ghost reveries

  • @Redd0346 I just want another MAYH or Still Life :P - that said, Watershed is a solid album.

  • @Redd0346 Dude i hopeyou don't find my comment is "bitching" but... even though i think watershed is an excellent album... you cannot compare it to ghost reveries, at least that's my opinion, and i don't want them to release another ghost reveries, i love the way opeth re-create themselves with each album... but ghost reveries is ghost reveries =D

  • @Redd0346 Am I the only one who thinks ghost reveries and blackwater park were Opeth's weakest albums?

  • @itsmedude1020 Yes.

  • @lasoogneypubes I thought so... I do have unique musical taste, though I should add Deliverance in there as well.

  • @Redd0346 I want another blackwater park :(

  • @Redd0346 Ghost Reveries was awesome, I see nothing wrong in wanting something that good.

  • @nanonymousm i'd take over progressive as a compliment.

  • @nanonymousm listening to "mahavishnu orchestra" does not make you superior to anyone.

  • @nanonymousm i agree, after all that part is sick

  • There is literally no such thing as over-progressive...

  • @nanonymousm this is the most fresh idead on the album in my opinion, watershed crushes!

  • @nanonymousm all bow before the all-knowing master of progressive rock, nanonymousm. Why don't you shut the fuck up and stop bitching about people bitching about how shitty Watershed is.

  • @nanonymousm I fucking love this part of the song. It's great.

  • @nanonymousm this section of the lotus eater got me into opeth. its one of the highlights of watershed

  • hahhaaa LOL

  • copied from dark nintendo night?

  • no sense...but The lotus Eater rulz xd!!!

  • LOL

  • 0:19

:O how did he not die?

  • awesome

  • Epic, sir.

  • nintendo core? is that actually a genere?

opeth is opeth man.. pure GENIOUS.

  • yeah it is, haha.

  • HAH!

  • I love this song because of this part, opeth experimenting with nintendo core is great.

  • I dont get it

  • if opeth is on morning tv then i seriously need to move to sweden!

  • Hahaha I didn't think about it but HELL YEAH

  • Lol thats exactly what I though when I first heard that part in this song, I thought it sounded very close to when you have star power on Mario.

  • that's the greatest part of Watershed, which in fact is a totaly awesome record, and it's Mikaels favourite song too :)

    Funkish jazz for the win.

  • Where is the openning clip from?!

  • type "Opeth my time of need live" and you will see it.

  • Swedish television.

More specifically: TV4 Nyhetsmorgon (Morning news)

  • Love that game, love that band.

By the way, is that you playing the game? You're pretty good.

  • they had it coming. lmao!

  • "over-progressive"????

    hahahahhah!!!!!!!!

  • that should be the game but whit the super mario world game a stage of ghost house!!

  • Haha, that's sick, very well synced.

  • lmao :D

  • I specifically thought of Paper Mario when I first heard it XD. So funny to find this video after telling my friends "Listen to this song, this part sounds like its from paper mario"

  • i dont understand how people think of mario when listening to opeth! i thought it was definitely a funky getaway scene from the 70's series starsky & hutch!

  • yeah, thats what i was thinking too^^ knight rider or magnum were also options, hehe

  • fuck, fuck, mierda, al final opeth no tocan en el lorca rock.

  • Mario was actually the first thing i thought of when i listened to this part hahaha cheers mate!

  • rotfl!! :))))))))

  • Pipe no.2 leads to Anders Nordin, Pipe No.3 leads to Martin Lopez, Pipe No.4: leads to Peter Lindgren!

  • LOL!

  • ....lol....

  • opeth always ist the best progressive music

  • This pales in comparison to Dream Theater's Super Majesty Bros.

  • Watched this video SOOO often already ^^

  • nothing rages me more than knuckle draggers calling anything displaying virtuosity "nintendo music"

this is so groove jazz oriented, nintendo was them last thing on my mind when i heard it

  • Completeley agree, there are a lot of close minded people out there that despise any effort from a band to reinvent themselves.

DUDE they are not doing another Morningrise, deal with it ffs

  • You have to be honest, as much as I find this part totally awsome and godlike, you have to agree it could be a nintendo song. Btw, Nintendo games have great music so it's not a shame to play a part of ''Nintendo music''.

  • i'm not into the showing off of the keyboards either. this was a funny video..but i just don't find the 'bouncy' keyboard sound fitting of opeth...who am i to judge right, they play what they want. but it's just bound to happen when you set a style, fans latch onto it, then you throw in curveballs that come completely out of left field. they're still very much classic opeth of course, but it's these parts that i find distracting as hell... way out of place as far as i'm concerned.

  • hehehehe, nice glitch!

  • haha that part does fit mario (and old nes games in general) :D i like

  • When I first heard that part, I seriously got mental images of Castlevania...

  • :D I loled

  • This part kicks ass.

  • hahahahahaha

  • LOL!!! True!!!!

  • super mario and the this keyboard riff are both great:D opeth made a great job in the new album.they really know what they are doing

  • If your think this kind of music is new to Opeth, you might want to listen to their other stuff.

Doesn't remind me of Nintendo at all. I imagine a circus and some clowns running around. :) Anyways, I think it sounds great.

  • wow, you guys should listen to ACTUAL progressive rock if you think this reminds you of nintendo...

  • You know what I don't get is fanboys. Seriously, I love Opeth, but there's a line you have to draw. Flaming because someone says something that could be interpreted as a negative towards a band is just fucking retarded. You may not have even been insulting Opeth, and these fuckers gave you two thumbs down! Goddamnit, I hate you fucking assholes and your extremist, close-minded point-ov-views. Learn to listen and think instead of talk.

  • I was more picturing mario fighting a boss character when i heard that terrible keyboard solo, but otherwise dead on. I love Opeth, but come on. How could they let that pass. Are they joking?

  • I really like it

  • Oh man, c'mon

    The new songs rule!!!

Watershed's gonna be the album of the year

  • Who said it isn't? What's wrong with a bit of humor

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

That was exactly what I thought of =D

    5/5

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *breathe* hahahahhahahaha

  • I know, i know. This keyboard theme is similar to old NES games themes :D.

  • wtf lol?
