  • soon you well start throwing him potato

  • Dude, you have a really cool dog! He loves his fruit, and seemed to be pretty consistent with the apples. My dog's name is Koda also! That's how I found your vid.

  • I think you are confusing him by saying "SAY apple." You need to drop the "say." Also, that's a really hard word. I know people who have elkhound who recognize flashcards. That might work better.

  • @ElkaCoyote We use "Say" followed by the object and he does pretty well with that. When he wants to go outside, we do just say "Outside?" and he makes that sound, so we are not 100% consistant.

  • I noticed from one of your previous vids that you got koda at a specific breeder. Would you recommend this breeder? Is Koda the type of dog you are looking for? I am between A doberman, a Viszla and a Elkhound so your imput is valuable.

  • @R3APERRANGER I'm no dog expert, but Koda is amazing and we are very glad we went to Elkhound Acers.

  • @MikeReedKS

awwwwwwwww omg what a cute dog *o* <3<3<3

  • such a nice dog! I love how you explain stuff to him about how to improve is words :D I explained a lot of stuff to my dog as well and thought he understand in one way or another :)

  • @keyboardNastja He is a great dog. We love him very much. I need to get some updated videos online soon. His "resist" trick is amazing, I need to get it on video. You can take his favorite treats, say resist and all but force them in his face, he turns his head and will not take them until we say "It's yours". Works when he is in "Stay" as well. You can toss treats right at his feet, say "Resist" and he will not eat them. It is amazing.

  • Man:Say apple

    Dog:Woof

  • @girlll99 Woof... the only thing a dog can say. So we don't expect true enunciation, instead we look for understanding of the request and consistent responses as a sign of learning. This is a trick, not true comprehension, but it does show his excellent intellect... for a dog anyway. :-)

  • @MikeReedKS Whatever,that dog is really cute! :D

  • That is such a really really pretty doggie!!!

  • @MissToughGirl13 And he is sweet, obedient and just downright wonderful.

  • My great uncle has a Norwegian Elk Hound, Sasha or something, he and his wife are both Norwegian, and it starts with an S. I just can't remember her name, but she is gorgeous. She loves playing ball and whenever we swim, she runs around until every single one of us are out. Lifeguard (:

  • i have a norwegian elkhoud too. but all he can say is "woof"

  • What a clever pup!

  • Cuteeeeeeee

  • @UnstopableSyd Agreed!!!

  • I have a newfie named koda

  • looks like my dog!

  • @MrEntei17 Then you have a good look'n dog!

  • @MikeReedKS

the fur's different but he's got the same face

  • Someone needs to train the owner. He keeps saying to the dog "say apple" which is two words.

  • @cleverid938 I am a first time dog owner and a novice for sure. You make an excellent point. He does seem to handle it but it makes sense to keep each command as direct and simple as possible. With "Say" we use "Say Apple", "Say Banana", "Say Ice Cube", "Say Outside" and "Say Please".

  • @MikeReedKS take into consideration he has no lips . so he did very well

  • @mekanik187 Agreed. He is a smart dog for sure.

  • =) im only 18 but when i grow up and have my own house i want an elkhound just likes yours!

  • @mileycyrus80001 It isn't on the do not feed list, and it is both crunchy and filled with nutrients, so I'd have to say "Yes it is".

  • Wheatley: Say Apple!

    *dog jumps*

Wheatley: You know what? That's close enough.

  • aww so cute this dog has patience

  • @josski32 He is a great dog, we are so lucky to have found him. I can't say enough how much he adds to our family.

  • @MikeReedKS that's great!! i need to get a dog. he's a beauty

  • Owner:Say Apple

    Koda:Apple

    Owner:Say Apple

    Koda:Apple!!

    Owner:Say Apple

    Koda:Im saying apple!!

  • @DexZeeHD LOL

  • LOL

  • that was a beutiful bananna!!!!!!! ....haha

  • at 2:42 it sounds like a baby saying apple!!!

  • my husky does that like he tries his best to say bathroom (outside XD) huskies are cool and all but i kinda want a dog like yours but its not my house so im not ready for a guard dog.

  • @WheresThaHate You need to get that on video and post it :-)

  • @MikeReedKS i so want to i think dogs can learn almost anything theyre awesome!!!

  • you can give a dog an apple? i never knew!p.s. u have an adorable dog!!!!

  • @Twinkypie777 I do think he'd eat just about anything, but he really loves fruit... go figure!

  • beautiful dog

  • @cptnJ24 Agreed!!! Thank you!!!

  • is that an akita? i have 2 of those- american and japenese!

  • @hearmehowl726 He is a Norwegian Elkhound.

  • @YourTrueGirlyGirl Thank you and I agree on all points. :-) He is a Norwegian Elkhound.

  • He can surely eat apple all day if you let him.

  • It's intriguing , but I'm not convinced.

  • @Khultan Perfect attitude! We’re not either, that is why I shot the video, to show the start, so that when I post one later we can compare and see. Does he just bark till you feed him? I can assure you he knows how to ask for ice, he sits right at the ice machine and always does a very special "ice-cube" sound that is unmistakable. On the other hand, "Go Outside" has been very difficult to teach, I ask him to say it and he just looks at me like, open the door human :-)

  • @MikeReedKS I apologize, I didn't mean to be off putting like that, I know that anaimals, such as dogs, somehow, can understand human communication (physical gestures?) and vocalizations, which astonishes me (or I'm putting humans way too elvated a status) , it's just that instance where a word such as, 'say' how is it possible for an intelligent animall, such as the dog understand the intentt ???

  • @Khultan Not off-putting at all! You were being honest and I appreciate that. Your question is good, but "Say" is what we always use so I think our consistency to having it always mean - vocalize now - has paid off in him understanding the type of trick we are asking for. Then we follow "Say" with the type of phrase we expect, but as I said, "Say, Go Outside" just results in a head tilt and a bewildered look. So it isn't perfect at all.

  • @MikeReedKS Glad there's no misunderstanding for you about me : ) I had to fave this because I love these kinds of interesrs/subjects particularly when it's on a positive note. : )

  • @Khultan Agreed :-) Basically he is a goat and he'd eat anything all day long.

  • @MikeReedKS Ha ha ha ,,,conditioned from way too involved human association or survival instincts?

  • pretty dog <=

  • @wolfhairify Yes he is! And he is mellow, obedient and the nicest dog you'll ever meet... unless of course you walk on the sidewalk just outside his fence, then you'd swear he was a killer... yet all he wants to do is play, but those teeth and a loud bark hit otherwise to stranger.

  • can i have youre dog lol hes so cute

  • @922brendan We have had him for just over a year now, and never does a week go by that my daughter doesn't say "Than you for letting me get a dog.". Koda is a true joy and a very loved part of our family.

  • He's a natural!

  • @WalksThroughLife Yes he is! Thanks for the comment.

  • you should search "Mishka" on youtube :)) she can say I love you

  • @anonymousaccount100 Oh yes, watched many other talking dog videos, but most are about dogs vocalizing sounds without meaning. Our goal is not to get him to make sounds that match human expression, but instead to connect specific sounds to specific meanings. Language isn't about mimicking sounds, a parrot can do that, it is the connection of a specific sound to a specific meaning that creates language. We seek communication, not mimicry. See Koko the Gorilla.

  • god, you're so patient

  • APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This makes me want to eat bananas. Also I subscribed

  • @k1ll3rz0mb13z We have yet to find anything that isn't bad for him that he won't eat. At PetSmart we tried the various deterrents and he loved them all :-) He even begs for citrus... What? A dog that likes oranges and grapefruit? We won't give them to him typically, and did only to see if we found something our goat won't eat. We didn't. Fortunately his early chewing of our deck didn't last long and didn't cause very much damage so we haven’t needed the deterrents… he is a great dog.

  • i dont hear apple i hear a small ruf

  • @furryfriend98 The goal isn't for him to speak the word "Apple" in clear voice, but instead to learn to generate a sound with a similar pattern and to do it in a consistent manner. We are working on "Ice", "Apple" and "Banana". We are also just starting on "Outside". The key is to have fixed sounds that represent different things. This qualifies as communications, even if the vocalizations are adapted to his ability to make sounds.

  • ba-na-NA!

  • @BoxBath1 Isn't he just too cute! :-) Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.

  • a dog cant eat that buy a little bones or something like that

  • learn her to say hamburger look at her shes so skinny XD lol

  • @1998620Miki He just had his 9 month check up, not long ago, and they said we need to cut back on food, he is actually over weight (at 52lb). This breed gets fat very easily, they are snow dogs after all, and fat is a great insulator. We want him to stay healthy, so we are trying not to over feed him.

  • @TheKaraCollection Sorry, answered and the last prson to use my PC was my daughter, so it was signed into her Jewlery account. Oops.. that TheKaraCollecton answer was from me :-)

  • @TheKaraCollection i know but i was joking :D the dog is so cute :D

  • @Jessica141996 Agreed! :-)

  • this is so disturbing... im sry:)

  • @dadobi2 No... no... it is adorable!

  • @MikeReedKS well thats just my opinion:)

  • @dadobi2 Fair enough :-)

  • Cute, its trying so hard to say apple ;D

  • @nTayfun He really is.

  • 0:36 -> 0:37 = 9 hours later ...

  • @PigLvl3 LOL- And I edited out a ton, it was REALLY long and borring :-)

  • Ps i think its great your dog is willing to eat fruit

  • @1982mockingbird1982 HE LOVES IT! -- Just never grapes!

  • Oh hes getting it. He's pronouncing the word with his 'mouth' correctly but he cant make the vocalization sound. I think maybe its just not possible for him to make the sound?

  • @1982mockingbird1982 Yes, it is hard for us to decide if we should reward him when he does the right motions but fails to produce the sound, but if you look and listen close he does a good job, or if we want him to just do the two little barks, that we decided represented apple (or ice cube), or the three we decided represented banana. We are leaning to the little barks, but those times when you can see him really mimic our vocalizations it is hard not to reward that.

  • i wish dogs could speak :(

by the way what breed is he?

  • @jamiewashy He is a Norwegian Elkhound

  • i wish dogs could speak :(

  • @jamiewashy They may not speak, but they can communicate.

  • Your voice is funny :D

  • @wiktorkramer Thank you for the comment.... I think :-)

  • MY GOD will you just give this Dog an Apple... its clearly ALL it wants in life.

  • @pdemarco339 LOL! You should see him when he wants an ice cube... that's what started this. I said, "Want and ice cube?" and we had just taught him "Little bark" so I asked for one and he did two... and it sounded like "ice cube" so we started asking him to say ice cube. He now goes in front of the fridge and does two quick little barks and we give him ice. It's so cute. From there we added “apple” which is the same as “ice cube” but different pitch and then banana, which is three barks.

  • I dont get how i got to this from electrolysis, but its cool enough

  • @HaydenHatTrick Both videos are mine, so YouTube puts them in the related list. I am at the same place in my kitchen as well :-) It also puts my helicopter videos in the lists too.

  • So Sweet ^^

  • @SuperMeSsI1996 Agreed :-) Thanks for the comment!

  • why don't you just leave your dog alone?

  • @titouille900 Our dog gets tons of attention. My wife, daughter and I just love that pooch and he gets soooo much attention from us. Besides, the talking idea was not ours. He started begging for ice by barking LOUD! One day I said "Little Bark" and he did a tiny quiet bark. From that day on we have treated him for little barks and that turned into him saying "Ice Cube" in that low talking voice of his. Apple and Banana came next. He loves the game, did you see him playing or complaining?

  • @titouille900 I forgot to mention, he continues to improve and I look forward to posting a new video in a few months with him much more consistently making the right sound for each type of treat.

  • @videoenthusiast23 See my "Koda the Norwegian Elkhound - Puppy at 8 Weeks" video at watch?v=BZc-rihR1XQ
