  • Why can't the Eurovision entries be like this today as well? Come on, a song like this (and amazing Celine) can captivate the entire Europe - or the world, but now nobody even remembers what the winner song was.

  • Goosebumps! ^_^

  • This song was originally written for czech singer Lenka Filipová but communist din´t let her go to the copetition so the song was given to Celine who was singing for Switzerland and she won and become a star.

  • @sunlightguy75 IN REHEARSALS SHE WORE TIGHT JEANS!

  • @postcardterry She should have kept them on! :)

  • @sunlightguy75 She had a great arse I do remember that!

  • 9 years later, she sung the song that catapaulted her to stardom. For the movie that would last at least 10 years as the highest grossing movie of all time.

  • Breath-taking

  • @ivanofna Well, I'm 36 now. ;) But I agree with you, considering what some people wear these days Celine is quite fashionable.

  • What enthusiasm!

  • bring back the orchestra!!!!!

  • The wonderful, fabulous and very touching voice and admirable, marvelous, great performance!!! And she is very humble/ I like that!!!!

  • Proof that UK was overrated in the old days: Their song came 2nd this year. Holy fuck. What useless shite.

    This one is great. =)

  • fantastic song and singer! 1972 and Vicky Leandros may just be the best ever but this comes very close.

  • Bravo, Celine Dion, you've won what a quite few have won in Eurovision: Fame outside your own country, and the only one outside Europe (excluding the neighbours). And quite well deserved, though I prefer a lot more recents songs from you.

  • @sunlightguy75 hee hee ...oh well,it was the 80s after all.

  • As soon as I heard the song sung by Celine Dion, I realized what made the difference. This shows that in the case of wonderful voices, the choice of music opens up a vantage point. Imagine if there was an exchange of songs between them, certainly the story would be different.

  • Thank-you Céline, but thank-you Nella Martinelli, who wrote that song... She was a very talented showwoman fro m Switzerland!

  • They picked the best singer that night!! Celine will always be #1

  • Very good song with Celine! Good luck Celine Dion, with heart Your.

  • Her outfit makes me want to punt a baby...

  • @inuyasha2013 that could possibly be the most perfect post ive seen on youtube.

  • This is absolutely stunning. It's amazing how secure she is.

  • Best song in the EUROVISION STORY.............

  • Celine, please defend colors of Swiss flag once again on ESC!

  • @sunlightguy75

    She looks lovely!

Lara Fabian was a bit ugly comparing to Céline Dion.

  • @AssassinVenice i disagree a little bit

  • Comment removed

  • her eyebrows are killing me...

  • @sunlightguy75 The 80s.... haha :)

  • WHAT A POWERFULL VOICE SHE HAS!!!! CELINE IS INCOMPARABLE!!! LOVE HER!

  • Celine could make even a Jedward song sound amazing.

  • i love her face

  • my god she was dressed really bad!

  • Celine Dions voice definitely have a *Carisma* like Elvis Presleys best days

  • awful song....

  • @superstubes, awful? You must be deaf! That's one of the 5 best songs!

  • @AquaOinkOink

Celine has sung great songs but this wasnt one of them.

  • We are proud of Atilla Şereftuğ. He's one a respectable figure representing Turkish Music in Europe. And thanks to Celine Dion for perfect interpretation with such a strong voice...

  • Here she is doing it very well. I have never been a Big fan of Celine Dion, though I do like some of her songs. But she does has a great voice. :-)

  • wat een kapsels

  • "When I wasn't even born", oh ha ha ha ha ha *fake laugh*

    We're not convinced.

  • @LondonTownCalling She was born in 1961 :D

  • @TheGemo64 She was born 1968.

  • i love this dress, personally.

  • music turkish man atilla şerftuğ, lyrics Swedish woman nella martinetti ,saying Canadian celine dion very good. I think very good.and lyrics French....................

    I'm a turkish:))))))))))))))))

  • @eurovisioncu1 Nella Martinetti is a SWISS woman/musician not Swedish ;-) ...indeed: Atilla Sereftug is a brilliant composer!

  • @Niz88Keyz ok

  • Beautiful song, beautiful performance, Celine is beautiful and not to mention THAT VOICE, but, what is she wearing???!! >_<

  • @RememberRox ithink this is 80's style :)

  • @RememberRox It appears to be a white jacket with a tutu! O_o What a combo...

  • Merci Céline das füür eus Gwunne häsch! (:

  • What are the eurovision song rules? So the singer doesn't have to be from the country that enters the song?

  • @SNK038 now you have to have a person who is from that country on the stage, but he can be dancer too.

  • @SNK038 That's true :) You can have max 6 persons on the stage. But it doesn't matter from wich country they are :P at least. I think so XD I watch it every year, and I never heard something about it xD So I guess I'm right :P

  • @MrSpartacus09

The rules are like that: Either the writer of the song or the lyrics or one (!) of the performers on stage have to be from the contributing country. Here, the songwriter and first composer Nella Martinetti was swiss (the second composer and conductor Atilla Sereftug was turkish).

  • @SNK038 Its the Eurovision 'Song' Contest so it doesn't matter if the singer is not from the country that is being represented. Its all about the song. In this case, Celine's composer is from Switzerland. Celine is just the one who is "presenting" the song. The composer is the one that actually takes the full prize :)

  • Yep! Céline was a phenomenon alright! I always thought she was presented songs that didn't fit her exceptional talent. Pop rock tunes would've been best. The brief period when Aldo Nova worked with her was promissing... but... the big "slot-machine" took over...

  • What people don't know about Céline is this.

  • She totally owned that stage with her magnificent voice, her incredible stage presence and her mesmerizing talent.

  • @xXCelineDionXx Yeah but the song is not too special

  • magnifique cette celine à l'eurovision...quelle superbe voix mais quel vilain tutu rose ^^

  • @mikesta100 Yes she did , and it was way before she became the superstar we all know today , I think she should be proud of been a Eurovision winner...

  • She absolutely derserved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mikesta100

    Yes, she did :)

  • What a performance, this song would not have won with an other singer!

    She made it brutally good!!!!!

the last high notes are so difficult!

And listen to the crowd after the last long high note! These were the days when cheering at the Grand prix meant something, you could "hear" the winner or at least the good songs!

  • love celine, shes the greatest such an inspiration, i greee wish signing comp were like this as they used to be, based on signing talent not just looks, or girls wearin skimpy cloths and guys with buff bods. if they want to get noticed for there bodies they should go into modelin, leave the signin to the pros like our beautiful celine . thats why x factor and talents shows of today can not stand up to contasets like this. and the winners dont seem to last to long, except leona whom i love to .

  • fun to see her in the beginin

    ee DUTCH speaker lol

  • Just how cute is she interacting with the camera?

  • 00:52 What kind of Industry is this in Ireland?

  • @nacht98 General agricultural industry.

  • I wish the Eurovision would be like this again. A singer would win because of his/her voice not because of the looks and the act.

I'm a big fan of Céline Dion, she's a talented and loving person. Her voice and songs make people feel better.

  • Oh dear, this takes me back to the fashions of the late-80, with a bang!! ,-)

    But LOVELY song, Celine!

  • You deserve the winner prize Celine, but what were you wearing?

  • Fucking amazing

  • Superb performance from Celine. Well done also to RTE for a superb production that year and to the Director for some stunning sweeping shots from camera crane. Used all the time these days but back then it was ground breaking.

  • Simply the best song of that night.

  • this song really deserved to win...amazing, so catchy and upbeat!

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god! Celine is so beautiful in this! She has such powerful voice!

  • love it

  • great song!!

  • A VERY SPECIAL NIGHT FOR HER YOU GO GIRL : )

  • It's too bad she had to get dressed in the dark...

  • haha she pure delighted to be in the bog :L

  • What a great song..and what a crappy outfit....

  • Amazing to see that the superstar Celine got her big break on ESC... in THAT outfit. Businesswoman on top, ballerina below?

  • i remember when i watched that..was a little boy and i was a big fan of her..she surprised wi´th her extraordinary strong and expressive voice..and history what happend with her afterwards;-)

  • May i know why mmmmh ..she is french canadian ...why is she at a european singing competition XD doesntm ake sense

  • @QCBEC It doesn't matter where the singer's from. You should see Luxembourg, many of their entries used artists from other countries.

  • amaizing voice... best wishes from Peru =)

  • lol the entry is great ^^

  • The 1988 Eurovision Song Contest saw the arrival of two singers which soon would be known all around the world: Céline Dion and Lara Fabian. Niin, sietää miettiä olisko Celine tähti ilman Euroviisuvoittoa? :) <3<3<3

  • how absurd :D ive never seen the intro :D

  • and the rest , as they say, its history....

  • i lovee her :)

  • Great song...magnificent performance...and maybe the worst outfit EVER in the Contest.

  • @carligo so right in all words. Worst outfit, best song. And the presentation..the girl must says that first time in 1956, She wasn´t even born

  • Watch the mini-series she starred in in 1985; here on You Tube: type in "Des Fleurs sur la Neige"!!!!

  • Oh my god I love her so much, no idea what all the lyrics mean but she's fabulous

  • i love it even if i dont know what shes saying <3

  • Just take a look at how people where dressed back in the days! It's been a serious competition. Not like nowadays where you are allowed to be dressed like a bird xD

  • @blitzkanone More like a whore or a druken bastard ... I would say LOL

  • with this song she startet her success !!!! I saw her to win the Contest on this day and from this moment I love her !!!!! But I must confess, the older songs are much better than the new ones (for myselfe...)!!!!

AND this songs is NOT boring............ ;0)

  • @Tinkerauge Who said this was boring?

  • ... ich schmeiss mich weg!

    Welch gruseliges Kleidchen!

  • waaaauw, she is wonderfull !!!

  • i thought celine dion is canadian...?

  • yes.. and representing la suisse.. =)

  • she is!

  • she is...and?

  • Look at the distance between her eyebrows!Wow!

  • LOL...she look like a caveman thrown out of ballet class! Like the song though

  • haha. Cruel.

  • i know!...but its true lol

  • Is that the woman who plays Michelle in "allo allo"?? :P

  • NO.

  • I mean the hostess, not Céline...

  • Oh, yeah course. sorry.

  • bu şarkının bestecisi türk bunu biliyormuydunuz...

  • i dont like the song..but her voice is spectacular! celine is a star :)

  • Well, she's just spectacular even if her outfit is horrific...:)

  • As soon as I heard her sing on the night I thought she would win it. In fairness, I think it only won by one point, but 20+ years on, her performance and this song still makes the hairs on the back of my neck go up. One powerful song, one powerful voice and a superstar was born. Oh yes, and if you think her clothes were ugly in this contest, you should have seen her a year later in the ESC 1989. She was dressed in a horrible blue glossy shellsuit, but who cares. It's all about her voice!

  • Uhhh, ugly clothes!

  • this is a great song and a fantastic performance. She deserves everything she's got. Greetings from Portugal

  • ca c'etait l'eurovision!!! ca carriere etait toute tracée j't'adore celiinnneee!!!!

  • If the rules do not say it, they should... the singer and composer should be a citizen of the country they represent.

  • spectacular.

  • Ne pars pas sans moi Céline!! WOW...sehr güt!!! Muolto buono! Fantastique!! Unbelievably good!! YAY! How lovely!

  • She is from Canada and she won for Switzerland. :P

  • c'est bien. It's ok! Gut! Suena bien jeje
