That's the third Jean Baudin video I've seen today, and while the others were really impressive it was a bit too much about the 11-string novelty factor. But wow, he's really justified the existance of those massive basses for me just there!

Fugual baroque music like that tapped on a bass? That's musicianship for you. Brilliant!

It's true. It is sometimes qualified as a string instrument, but the strings are neither bowed nor plucked. They are struck with hammers. Pianos are more like a bass drum than a violin in that sense.

Piano IS a percussion instruments, get your facts right.

You hit the strings with beaters, therefore it is a percussion instrument.really trust me, it is, I know it is.

it has strings, but its played with a beater hitting the strings therefore it is a percussion instruments.

If you had taken 30 seconds to go onto google and type in something along the lines of "is piano a percussion instrument" you would see that a piano is in fact a percussion instrument.

My music teacher who has dedicated his entire life to music and is a world class pianist even knows it is a percussion instrument,

No but ok this has been a big argument in music for a long time weather the piano was a percussion or a string instrument. You would think it is a string instrument [and incase you thought otherwise, I AM aware that the piano has strings in it] but its the manner in which the piano is played that makes it a percussion instrument.

Piano is classified as BOTH a stringed and a percussion instrument (per Wikipedia).

Well yes, NOW it is classed as a precussive string Instrument, but thats mainly because alot of people can't wind their head around the fact it is a percussion Instrument. It was originally classed as a percussion instrument, but no your right on how its classed as both now.

No disrespect to this musician's skill, it is amazing to play something like this on a string instrument...but that's the whole point - it is incredibly hard, but still far from perfect and it would sound much better on a piano (or it's Baroque equivalent). Sorry.

never to few or never too many strings, its just you take whatever suites your needs or asperations, for example an 11 string can play higher then a guitar so you could in fact be a piano in a sense

depends what style of music your gonna play guys... he has basically a guitar along with a bass in one instrument there. he can hit the hight notes just like a 6 stringer especially in his 11 string while still keeping all the strings of a bass if you were planing on playing that instrument like a normal bass your absolutly right all you need is 4 but having 9 or 11 strings is exactly what jean needs

But he actually uses all the strings, so it's obviously not just for attention. Maybe he needs that big of a range to play music he likes? He's said he doesn't really consider himself a "bassist", but a musician.
