Dry ice isn't poisonous it is a carbondioxide same as in carbonated drink but in a solid form.

@bluishsnowflake Well, let's say inhaling pure carbondioxide isn't healthy either and can kill you but it's far less dangerous than for example carbonmonoxide. There is a smart saying, I don't know by whom: "Everything is poison, it's the dosis that counts." In this case, the importance lies in never putting dry ice in your mouth as it will cause severe damage to the tissue similar to fire so simply calling it "poisonous" is something I'd recommend when talking to kids.

@Stevespanglerscience Store-bought dry ice is meant for meat. Just make sure it's food grade! (There are impurities that have to be removed when making it for food use)

Remember: Outside - CO2 is odorless, and it's heavier than air. CO is the more deadly cousin but only 'more'.

@Curlytwins1993 Dry ice is not poisonous. It is however extremely cold at minus 78 celcius and will burn you hand if held. The gas given off when the ice evaporates is carbon dioxide which again itself is not poisonous but will not support life because due to it's density it displaces oxygen.

@harikiang If you touch the dry ice with your bare hands, the temperature will cause your skin to burn. It won't go up in flames, but it will be very painful. Anything that is below 10 degrees Celsius or above 40 degrees Celsius should be handled with gloves.

Any non-carbonated beverage- you see, that's solid carbon-dioxide, what it did to that apple juice was carbonate it. It turned it into a fizzy-drink, like sparkling apple, or coca-cola.
