  • This is a discrace!!! Dale Hawerchuck needs to be invited back to the MTS Centre and be inducted ( if he isnt already ) into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame, then raise his name in Large Horizontal text in Red White and Blue. This Video makes me sick, there is no one in the crowd. everyone is stuffing their faces with free hot dogs, and they no nothing about hockey. Move this franchise now! oh ya and Go Jets Go!!!!

  • If Phoenix some how merges with the new Winnipeg Jets, the Jets can retire #10, #9, #25, & #27

  • They can mask this however they want, and go with the "franchise" bullshit, but guys like Hawerchuck, Hull, Steen and Selanne, and everything they ever did with the JETS is WINNIPEG JETS HISTORY, not Coyotes. They extend this to the "franchise" so that Phoenix has something to be happy about, but the fact is their fans don't give a shit. These names belong in the MTS Centre, and no matter how the NHL treats this, we'll always treat their history as our own.

  • WOW.....if that was Winnipeg you wouldnt be able to here yourself think. Cant wait to do it over the right way this year at home.....GO JETS GO!

p.s. we'll be seeing you Bryzgalovless Coyotes real soon....cant wait :D

  • I never really had much time for Wayne ....what's his name, I saw him get in a "fight" once and I thought he was going to cry. He always had his body guards around him giving him everything he needed puck etc, kind of like a spoiled child. Dale on the other hand, now that's some one a kid could look up 2, a real class act in my book!

  • Mark my words.

There will be a Dale Hawerchuk night in Winnipeg soon. We have to honour him where he belongs.

  • I feel bad that Hawerchuk had to do this in front of such a pathetic hockey crowd. Dale deserves much better than this. True North will re-do this ceremony the right way.

  • @risingstarresumes Did he really have to do this? , If I was Dale I would of told phoenix to fuck off

  • He tries pulling his punches at the beginning and says "this franchise" whenever he means Winnipeg at the beginning, but he stops and flaunts our city's name.

We deserve to give him his real ceremony, right here at home where it all started.

  • Can't wait to see you in Winnipeg introducing the REAL Jets on home ice. GO JETS GO!!!!

  • Hey that team was moved 15 years ago for factors beyond their control and then they set up a night to honor one of the greats of the franchise, what a jerk maneuver.

  • look at all those emty seats.

  • GO JETS GO

  • THIS MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!!

  • Well, I look forward to a much better, more energized and more relevant Dale Hawerchuk Night during the 2011-2012 season!!

  • Very classy hockey player. To bad it was not in Winnipeg, the crowd, would be going crazy!!

  • This is honesty bullshit, even Dale thinks this too, like why the fuck would they have this I'n Glendale ? Nobody nos he is an it's a disgrace to the city of winnipeg and the jets fans, anyways they'll be back here next year and will give all the jet greats the appreciation they deserve, like sealanne, steen, and the list goes on.. But this is disgusting

  • That's just despicable...

I'm not a Jets fan--just before my time, though I share a bond with the team in way, Selanne's having to leave Winnipeg led to my becoming a lifelong hockey fan, a diehard for my beloved Anaheim Ducks--but come on...

He was a JET, not a COYOTE!

Listen to those Phoenix Phonies, they don't care about him...or their team!

My Ducks are an expansion team, but one that made sense, one people care about, and we didn't STEAL a team!

FLY ONCE MORE JETS, FLY HOME!

  • If anybody sees this lets do this the right way next year when we have our team back

  • I lost a lot of respect for wayne gretzky after watching this

  • Hmm what a coincidence just when they start to clap for Dale Hawerchuck having his name up it says an error occured please try again later and right now i know why it said that the "error" was the unbelievably quite and lame clapping and cheering and its sad that Dale Hawerchuck consideres himself somewhat of a pheniox Coyote cause hes my third cousin and wow i rly didnt expect that but cool vid anyways but yeah Hockey belongs in Winnipeg and Quebec city not god damn pheniox and Colorado

  • IT LEAST THEY CAN FUCKEN DO IS RAISE IT AS A JETS JERSEY

  • This should / better be done right once the Jets return to Winnipeg, IMHO.

  • At the end he really looks depressed

  • Don't worry Dale, in 2011 we'll show you the honor you truly deserve.

  • This is absolutely horrible... Why in fucks name is this in Phoenix. So disrespectful to us Winnipeggers...

Clap your fucking hands you idiot arizonins.

This team is coming back to Winnipeg.

  • a few things:

    1. as a winnipegger, this video is fucking balls. what was the point of this? the phoenix fans have NO CLUE what he's talking about.

    2. look at all those empty seats behind the home bench... LAME

    3. C'MON I WANT THE JETS BACK!

  • @lifewithoutcash your a fucking idiot the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes franchise are the same just different team name and city, and Hawerchuk is the leading scorer for that franchise, but true Winnipeg should be the place where they honour him.

  • ROFL @ Gretzky, he looked like he didnt care. Expescially when Hawerchuk slammed his head on the ice. lol

  • Could you imagine if this was the old Winnipeg Arena? The roar?

Instead we get some sort of bad dream. It's like the fn' Twilight Zone. BRING BACK THE JETS!

  • Did you notice he said "I see that passion in the Coyotes Organization and you the Coyote fan." @ 3:18

  • That's it? That's the banner? Well, it's better then nothing. At least the Coyotes have the class to retire his number and leave #9 & #25 retired, unlike Colorado and Carolina who showed the lack of by unretiring every number that had been retired in Quebec and Hartford.

  • That sucks seeing his jersey being retired for a team he technically never played for...yeah, he played for the organization, but not for the current team.

Why doesn't Wayne Gretzky, the great embassador of hockey he claimes to be, put the team back in Winnipeg, Manitoba where it belongs...and then have a real ceremony for Dale Hawerchuk.

  • Hawerchuck was everything to me when I was a kid.

Notice how there is virtually no commenting from Phoenix 'fans' on here? It's not all Winnipeg comments, either - but no Phoenix. Time to pack your bags and leave the desert, boys.

  • Hawerchuk was on the Flyers briefly. But I'm just a fan of the NHL in general, so I definitely respect Dale Hawerchuk on every team he was on.

  • well you see i seen in dales eyes that it was not true cause its just not the same, from what i have read up on , the team Lost tons and i mean tons of money by going south winnipeg never lost this mouch, look in the stands over there not even half way full almost empty in winnipeg they had tons of fans

  • In a way it is kinda sad watching this, but it's not like no one cheered. Phoenix has a young developing cast, but they just can't put a winning season together since JR (from what I can recall) was on the team.

  • winnipeg never should have lost the jets, the nordiques and whalers should still be in their original cities. minnesota should have the north stars and not the wild. the league should have been capped at 24 teams and only in strong hockey markets. no tampa, nashville or miami. atlanta has failed twice as a hockey market. san jose has supported the sharks, but they've also had a winning team most years. attendance in denver has been falling off since they haven't been winning as much.

  • Columbus always has decent crowds, but they really dont have any other teams to share the market with.

  • Clap your hands god dammit. Shitty fucking fans.

  • @eidsvig worst move in nhl history

  • @eidsvig

You said it dude, deep inside he was "what the fuck am i doing here", He mentions Winnipeg so prominantly, Hawerchuck was my hero as a kid, he was probably forced to do this in that shithole of a town. when he was mentioning his team past teammates, the yotes fans were like Dave Ellet,Tim Watters, Jim Ferguson who are they, a fucking disgrace, if that was here, the cheering would of been definning.

    GO JETS GO

  • If I'm Hawerchuk there I'm actually sorta pissed and rather saddened.

He deserved far better, coming from a Habs fan, the guy was one of my faves and the city of Winnipeg is where his heart is, and where his fans are.

  • This is such an insult to Jets fans and the city of Winnipeg! The Pheonix Coyotes are a bunch os usless cocksucking losers ,Hawerchuck never was a part of Pheonix,he was the blood of the Jets. The Coyotes are such a fucking joke I hope they fold and move back to Canada, and i also hope that little fuckin weasel Bettman eats a bullet!

LONG LIVE WINNIPEG JETS FANS !

  • given the situation in Phoenix, the coyotes may very well relocate out of phoenix, hopefully they come back to the Peg where they truely belong. BUt given that snakeoil commisioner we have, he might move it to Las Vegas

  • You are an idiot. He is being honored by the Phoenix Coyotes because he is their all time leading scorer. The Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes are the same franchise just with a different team name and city. And hold your horses because the Coyotes could be coming back to Winnipeg again as the Jets if they do not find an owner.

  • @railwaycop

    BEST COMMENT EVER MY FRIEND!

phoenix has the nerve to fucking steal Winnipegs history to try and sell tickets down there and people dont give a shit about the damn team and havent for over 14 years. Ask any person who lives in phoenix who dale hawerchuk is and the response you'll get is "I have no idea"

  • The business of hockey has turned that sport into a sad, sad spectacle.

You can shove NHL hockey where the sun never shines (Seattle?).

  • Dale probably faught for his celebration to be in Winnipeg but some asshole said no. When they raise Hawerchuk's name the claping was so sad.

  • The question though is, does the city buy the team's heritage when it buys the franchise?

    poko111

    Yes they did.

  • Being a Jets fan, I'm not particularly offended by the idea of Dale being honoured in Pheonix, but I do find the whole thing sort of weird. What's the point? Do they know the guy down there? I assume he had to agree to the honour, so I'd like to hear his reasons. The guy had his admission into the Hall delayed for no good reason, so whatever accolades he can get, the better I guess. The question though is, does the city buy the team's heritage when it buys the franchise?

  • Best Coyote/Jet ever!

Great job by Phoenix retiring his number.

  • Hey douchebag he never played with the useless coyotes... it was a joke this was done in in phoenix.

  • seeing a comment like that makes me sad that are team was moved.

  • All of yall pissed off right now I feel ya. Id be pissed if the Wings moved to another city.

If its possible a petition should be started to getem back like Quebec is doin at the moment. The biggest disgrace to PHX is the new maroon uniforms. Theres already too much red in the league. Shoulda stayed with the first ones the had,black/green/white

  • This is blasphemous in so many ways.

They moved the team to a country where the majority doesn't care about the sport.

To put salt in the wounds, they moved the team to the HOTTEST area of the country where temps can easily hit over 100 degree F.

Then they implode the Winnipeg arena, cutting the last ties the city had to the Jets.

    Now this.

Gretzky, you are an ASSHOLE of the first, it shouldn't suprise you though since this ass made Tocchet take the rap for him.

    What a dick

  • let it all go.... phoenix knows nothing. thats life.

  • To most NHL fans and Winnipeg fans, it makes me sick! Showing a graphic with "WPG/PHX", Wayne Gretzky with a "don't care" clap, the Dale Hawerchuk jersey in Coyotes colors in a glass case, and Dale having to refer the Jets as "the franchise", and the fans minimal applause toward him makes any Jet fan vomit! You can by Dale that he should be honored in Winnipeg, and by the Phoenix fans' reaction, they would rather cheer Shaq and Nash and the Suns to victory rather than watch hockey!

  • To me, this is a middle finger to all the Winnipeg Jets fans and it is sickening! Showing the graphic stating "WPG/PHX", the few fans cheering for "Ducky", Wayne Gretzky's ignorant sign of respect, the Hawerchuk jersey in Coyotes colors in glass all show that Phoenix doesn't deserve an NHL team! I guess they rather watch Shaq and Steve Nash than watch Dale getting honored. I am an American hockey fan, and you can tell by Dale he'd rather be honored in Winnipeg as a Jet, not by "the franchise".

  • This is ridiculous. Winnipeg has already taken care of this proceeding. The Coyotes' are a different, relocated franchise and have no claim on Dale Hawerchuk's career or achievements whatsoever. They can retire Shane Doan's number later.

And Wayne Gretzky's glum look and indifferent applause is insulting. Come on, Wayne. Show some respect for a Hall of Fame player who helped you win a Canada Cup.

  • So Hawerchuk has his number retired for 2 teams?

  • I don't know what's more idiotic... the fact that Wayne Gretzky looks like he's bored out of his ass, or the fact that all the seats behind him are empty. Winnipeg definitely deserves an NHL team far more than Phoenix does.

  • This is bullshit. He didnt play a game in his life for them. Its bad enough they had to take the jets from Winnipeg now they steal our history.Put more Jets in your ring of crap Phoenix cause you guys have nothing but the past Winnipeg built for you.!

  • How embarrassing. How can Phoenix put him in their "ring of honor" when he has to ties to the city at all. Bobby Hull, Thomas Steen, Dale Hawerchuk all have ties to WINNIPEG, meaning the City of Winnipeg. Heaven forbid they put Selanne in their ring of honor..he didn't even play for the Jets..same goes for all three mentioned above..

  • You Fukin stupid fuck....I mean Oblivously your not old enough to even know what the W.H.A was or The team as a matter of fact was A city in Manitoba and i used to live in winnipeg in the north end so i know .....selanne got 82 goals in his first season and that was his break out role in hockey where he got his start and the reason why he is make over 5 million a year of past 2 years haha

  • Easy Easy buddy...you're not perfect either. Selanne had "76 Goals" in his Rookie season...not 82.

  • he's including the playoff goals, but I think he means 80 if that's the case.

  • Ree-dick-u-lous...period.

  • Doesn't make much sense to me that Phoenix would be honoring the best player in Winnipeg history.

  • Umm...poor Dale. I don't think any "fans" there even REALLY knew who the guy was. It's sad watching this because he's pooring his heart out and nobody seems to care. Bring back our god damn team! The JETS Will Fly Again in Winnipeg!

** Jim: Glad to see you representing the Jets in The Desert! Plan a move to Winnipeg after they fly North for good! **
